Hehe. Thank you all.
Well, I've been on a roll lately at least in modeling, so I've got yet another cap ship more or less ready to show off. In any event, I'm sick of tweaking it for now. :P

2549 polys
This is supposed to be a much smaller companion of the other one. Has main kinetic guns/beams in the front, as well as multiple missile launchers built into the sides. The idea behind these is the cruise missile, which launches out, and quickly rights itself to aim at it's target.
Edit: and Leber, Incarnate said that it wasn't an NDA exactly, and he also said to me personally that they hadn't signed on to putting *any* ships ingame.
[Tue Jun 21 22:38:23 2005] ff0000*Incarnate* ok. cool. umm. FYI that we never signed on for necessarily *using* anything, but we do appreciate the effort
[Tue Jun 21 22:38:35 2005] ff0000*Incarnate* I don't want anyone to be disappointed if we don't end up using their ship or whatever.
He also said:
[Tue Jun 21 22:34:43 2005] ff0000*Incarnate* and full materials/texturing would be preferred.
[Tue Jun 21 22:34:49 2005] ff0000*Incarnate* they're kinda.. not so useful without that.
[Tue Jun 21 22:35:00 2005] ff0000*Incarnate* since 90% of the time to make a ship is drawing and creating the textures
[Tue Jun 21 22:35:04 2005] ff0000*Incarnate* not to mention the materials and all.
[Tue Jun 21 22:35:10 2005] ff0000*Incarnate* (pixel shaders and blah)
I dunno if I really want to texture these right now, so eh. :-/

Modelling is easy, texturing is pretty difficult - especially when working with limited resolutions (even more difficult on cap ships). The most annoying thing is UV unwrapping and trying to make sense of where automatic mapping (Maya) puts everything when you open the screengrab of the UV's in photoshop.
This is one of the reasons why the asymmetrical 'hammer' texture is on hold for the moment...with symmetrical ships you can pretty much just texture one side then flip it over. Asymmerical ships take a lot longer.

Yes, myko is right. However, any texturing that we do do right now might not end up being very useful anyways, seeing as CrippledPidgeon is working in Lightwave, as well as myself, and myko is working in Maya (I think...), none of which are 3D Studio Max. I'm not sure how 3DSMax textures, so I'm not entirely sure, but I have my doubts that it transfers smoothly from Lightwave to 3DSMax.
That said, modeling is more fun anyways.

fbx is good for moving between apps, plus you can view models in quicktime ( http://www.myklittle.co.uk/stuff/FBXPlugin60_QuickTime60_Windows.exe if you don't want the hassle of registering on the alias site - though you need to register to get the plugins)

Harry; the Deimos, Charon, and Revelation are all winners. If you're going to spend time texturing anything, I would looove to see textures on these. Especially the Deimos.
Not to mention the cap ships, both of those have great designs.

wOOt, love the designs! I realy hope the devs put them in...

2246 faces without cleaning up my geometry & removing excess points, etc.
Designed to be a Bomb-lobbing/torpedo frigate for killing other caps.
As I said before, I have rather sporatic access to my Lightwave computer right now, so I can't really do much in the way of texturing right now anyways.

ooh, looks good for a carrier!
Eh, no. I s'pose that's my cue to finish up my carrier...
Here is the Carrier.

Has *lots* of room inside it. The foreward docking bays and side ones connect also. This kind of thing would even be able to fit several tridents at least, along with numberous wings of fighters.
Ho, I just noticed that this is named the Poseidon, and our mid-size ship is the Trident..hehe. Kewl.

my mistake, now THATS a carrier! awesome job! *claps*
The poseidon looks great, something i'd really like to see in the game.
Harry, your recent ship posts are AWESOME. So glad I started this thread.
I was kinda hoping someone would offer to sponsor a contest -- maybe offer prize money, or devs would offer one of you talented modelers a chance to put your ships in the game someday.
Whether or not either of those things happens, at least you're having fun and showing some really creative work. This is a really fun thread to read.

I'd love to see all of Harry's designs in the game. I hope the Devs are thinking about it. That would be way too cool.
a similar thread was started in alpha if i can recall....
of course, harry wasnt there at that time :(
edit: ah here it is http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/3861
unfortunatly it didnt work soo well...

I went there and looked for any models and all I found was this:

While it was not directly linked to, it does look cool.
There may be other ship in there somewhere, especially here:

that one up there ^^ looked cool!
The "Rwanda" is tight...
and it looks much more to scale than the Current Largest Cap Ship...
I like those textures too...
And Dr. Seldon, does psychohistory have anything to do with creating fantastic models?

I was curious if anybody here was into blender. If yer thinking about getting into 3d design its definately worth checking out. Below are some contributions, they are not of my design. I primarily concentrate on animations but I can model okay. I may try to spend a few hours making a ship tomorrow.

This *is* a Capital ship. It's not quite detailed (in terms of turrets and stuff) as much as I was planning on doing, but I got sick of sticking those things on there.

[insert some low poly-count here]
Dock is in the front, as well as a Avalon launcher or somethin'. Something that does damage. ;)
And Ommy, yea, that Blender ship is cool. I ended up finally getting Yafray tonight because I decided that Blender Internal renderer wasn't cutting the cake.
