some of the existing artwork in-game have intakes, but I also think I read in one of them at least that the artist was designing it for both space and atmospheric flight.

I believe that the intakes may be for small forms of the Bussard Ramjet. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A600436

The spiikes on my ship are for...i gues...defense. I spose if another ship comes too close it can ram them. Maybe even a station. Probably something like these spies would rip other object apart. Even asteroids.

The detail level is nil. I'm working on better texture right now. I'm still waiting for replies on the wings3d forum so i can apply them. :P

Actually, some sci-fi literature (Stephen Baxter for instance) describes the use of scoops on spaceships to scoop up the various trace elements available, and convert them into fuel.

No whether or not this is the case with some of the Vendetta ships I have no clue. but you do see it elsewhere. The Viper in BG has a scoop/intake.

For my IBG Mk II? I was simply following the design cues of the current centurion.

Edit: And according to Cyghost, looks like the sci-fi world was simply reflecting the real world.

A new paint job on my sweet ride! No, i'm kidding, but it does have a new paint job. And a couple(four) turrets in the front. My paint job probly should be made smaller and more detailed. But then i woulda had to make 2048 textures instead of 1024.

This is my latest ship. I guess it's an atmospheric shuttle. Untextured. Oh and, how do you weld objects in Wings? It says there isn't a face to weld together.

You 'bridge' faces, if that's what you're talking about. You have to have 2 faces selected, facing each other (less than 180 degrees difference), with the same number of vertices on both faces.

Okay, thanks. The lighting won't be so bad on my next post. And one more thing. Did you use bridging for your really nice cokpit on your ships?
Jul 27, 2005 Harry Seldon link
No. I rarely use bridging. I almost always start from a single cube, and extrude/bevel from there. Obviously, that's oversimplifying it, but I mainly use the extrude/extrude region, inset, bevel, and cut line & connect points tools. For the cockpits, I would inset & extrude in most cases.

Ok, thanks again. my ship is gonna look cool i think. :) Plus it's an easy UVmap.

Well, here's the intextured version! Enjoy until i texture it! (288 polys)

PS: This is my third ship.

And here it is!!! Any comments? Do you peeps think it's a good final????

Well, I'm seeing a lot of stretching on the texture, pretty much everywhere. I'm also trying to understand why it has a huge divot in the middle of the fuselage, but other than that, it's a good start.
Jul 28, 2005 teh1ghool link
Mmmm. I did that on perpose. I think it looks cool. It's almost like...sleeker. You have to see it in a full 3-d view. Otherwise it does look much different. Oh and could you please teach me how to uvmap without all the streach? For some reason when i project/unfold it it streaches the final content and shouldn't. According the the uvcoords it's all good and unstreached. Help please!

Well, Wings3D isn't really meant for Texturing. I'd say that you should take it into Blender3D ( http://www.blender3d.org/ ) and texture it there. It'll take a while to learn, and be sure to check their tutorials & movie tutorials out.

It's difficult to explain specifically why your ship is getting all this stretch without seeing the model and texture. Try texturing it with a simple grid to show stretched areas, and go from there.

Okay, thanks.

This is still a work in progress, low poly count, no material as of yet. I call it the raptor, suppost to be a Light Assault Cruiser for the Serco. Has no turrets or small port weapons yet, but has to forward facing beam-cannon ports. Planning to add a docking bay in the head of the ship in the indented areas (both sides). I have about 4 hrs of modeling into this so far, and is my first blender project ever.

Any comments, suggestions, tips for blender, etc. are all welcome. =)

Looks cool John. I;m curious though as to why a Star Cruiser would have fighter jet style wings? Either way it will neat to see it with some texture. Blender looks like an interesting deal, I might have to try it out.

And my next model:

The Inuebis Bounty Collector (or something to that effect)

Basically just a cockpit/small living area, an engine, and guns.

No Texture yet, thats up next though.
