well i could send you a cd with 3ds max and a keygen, but that would be a huge hassle.

rogue: POVRay isn't exactly industry standard, and doesn't work too well when you're trying to make game models. Well, at least, game models that don't look like they're from the 1990's

For everyone's inspiration!
(taken from http://www.vendetta-online.com/h/universe_ships.html )

Flexibility and Modularity

...Through the use of a variety of "module ports", many different ships may be equipped in different ways. This allows ships to be highly configurable to the specific mission at hand, as well as permitting a ship designed for one purpose to be used (to some limited extent) for a different purpose. Thus, the fighter might be temporarily used to haul a little cargo, the transport might be retrofitted as a bomber, and so on...

Ship Varieties

...Midrange and heavy freighters and small capital ships, ranging up to large cruisers, carriers and other flag-level capital vessels, will be added as playable ships in a post-release expansions...

...The expense and difficulty in purchasing ships will increase proportionally to their size. Over time, a single character might build a trading empire and amass a fortune great enough to own a large freighter. <heh> However, the resources of a great many players would be needed to secure ownership of a large capital ship, not to mention the caveats required for political approval...

...Multiple characters will be able to use a single large ship, either by piloting the vessel or manning defense turrets. Craft of a certain scale may contain docking bays, allowing users to transport and launch their smaller ships from the larger...

Ship Appearance

...ships will also have a certain level of aesthetic user-configurability. Ships may have portions of their colors defined by the user, plus different ship "livery" (skins) may be available to users belonging to particular factions. Thus, advanced characters may have access to special ship configuration options, further setting their ships apart visually...

Can't wait for some of THIS stuff.

this thread will eventually start to stretch the board and need to be locked

Yeah, probably. But we'll just make a (more organized) Mk II at that point.

Or they just put the same page-listing in the thread overview as the one used in the threads temselves. listing only the first and last 6 pages.

Alright. I've finally gotten this thing to a point where I'm pretty happy with it. I haven't done the secularity or illumination maps yet, but hey.

1462 Polys
2048*2048 texture

Texture is adjusted to look best at 512*512 right now, so some of the bumpmapping isn't apparent. I'm also tired and impatient, so I'm just posting this already.

So, without futher ado, noise filters, or other stunts I could pull:
