I also like this design... maybe do give it a bit more of a curve, bend the wings down a bit? some small degree to make it look more aggressive?

Well, I tried the wings-down effect, but it seemed a bit too much like the Centaur...
Then I tried smoothing the whole thing, and got something rather cool looking.

EDIT: Slight issue with the forward guns not touching the body... I'll fix it when I have time.

Dark Knight, to be quite honest, that thing is all wing. It's a cool design, but utterely out of place in a space game. Surface Area is BAD when there's no purpose for it. By all means though, good design and keep 'em coming!
Eh... We need different sized docking bays... it'll be more possible to have different ship types then. Like something more vertical.
If surface area is so bad, then explain the Centaur and Vulture! =P
The Centuar is a specific trading vessel, and instead of creating it to look like a big round turd like the Behemoth, its designers decided to spread out the cargo in wing bays.
The Vulture is explicitely a combat ship, and is designed as such. All 'contemporary' ships in the VO universe contain main engines, and lateral control drives which occupy the larger portion of a ship, and put a minimum on the sizes of ships. Instead of making a small-all-around ship like the conventional Centurion, the designers of the vulture designed it to be an impossibly small target from head on, but they had to compensate for it by giving it large wings so they could still fit the engines and such.

yeah, and to make it hard to hit from that one angle, they decided on a heavier ship, with barely more armor (how does THIS make sense? isn't the weight of most of these in the armor?) with a comparable engine, and the same number of weapon ports.
Good thing the Vulture has a cappucino machine though... They'll need the caffeine to keep up with the cents

I was thinking about posting something in the suggestion forum about the possiblity of a component system for building ships for when the crafting system is finished (i.e. 1 armor weighs 1Kg), but never got around to thinking about it much beyond that.
The Vulture is the space-worthy model of the Serco Nighthawk, a primarily atmospheric-flight (with limited space capabilities) craft. See the backstory for information on the Nighthawk.
'cos you know, it's only been a thousand years. And military equipment is never improved upon.
For the heck of it, I randomly did this. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/Dimpfinator/StillettoMissile1.jpg
Ah well. Might be doing more missiles and stuff in the future...takes less work...

Some of these are really impressive. The game does need more ships, particularly faction-specific ships, or ships that are only obtainable in certain neutral areas.
Rationally, I believe that the Devs should contact at least you, Harry, and have you churn out a few prototypes in the format they use. If you make 25, and 2 make it, that's two more ships in the game.
Note: You may want to specify the dimensions of these ships, I have no idea if they're supposed to be fighter-size, carrier-sized, or what...

Re: Velxyon
I have already sent in two ships to the devs, the first of which I tried to mimic the current style of ships (albeit somewhat poorly). The second was much better, but apparently still not up to par, and to boot, Incarnate didn't like the design.
As for contacting them they didn't contact me, though a few e-mails were exchanged on the topic of the Aeoleus and the Deimos.
Churning out ships in the format they use is essentially impossible, because their format is similar to the 3DMax format, from what I understand, and I work in Lightwave (3DMax being a PC-only program). They have mentioned that they should be able to import it, and I certainly hope they can.
As for the "If you make 25, and 2 make it, that's two more ships in the game" argument, do you know how much effort goes into making 1 ship? It's a LOT of work to make it look good, and 25 would take a LONG time. Modeling ships and getting the basic concept down for me can take as little as half an hour, and perhaps an hour or so more of tweaking the model to have as much detail-per-poly as possible, while still staying within the poly limits. Texturing on the other hand, takes a LONG time. All day even, to get good looking draft done. Revision upon revision goes into the textures. For the Aeoleus, I think I had over 50 revisions of the texture, trying different things out, and then was told it wasn't good enough.
You're right, the game does need new ships. However, I'm rather unmotivated to go about creating these ships right now. Perhaps this ought to be mentioned in an e-mail to incarnate instead, but actual feedback on which designs he LIKES out of what I've done thus far, and what he thinks is quality would be nice, before I go and spend *hours* and *hours* on a ship that he ultimately says "It looks pretty good, but I don't like the model" to. Since I haven't done much modeling or texturing since Luis stepped in with the TPG Destroyer and Raptor, and I've seen the kinds of models that Incarnate apparently likes (which I don't particularly like), I'm not so sure that I care all that much anymore.
Whatever. Somebody go fetch me some motivation.

/me gets Seldon some tequila.
Not as good as motivation, but it'll do in a pinch.

aww seldon, cheer up, i like your chips
I think the pegasus has alot of potential Harry.
I for one like the Aeoleus a lot.
It's not about if you like the ship, or if it has a lot of potential. It's about why I should put hours and hours of work into something that has as of right now yielded exactly nothing. I have no reason to keep working toward getting ships into Vendetta, because I've been trying to get this moving for over...well, a long time, and while I hate texturing (not so much any more, but I still love modeling, and would MUCH rather be doing that), I've put a lot of effort into it for this project specifically in the texturing realm.
I'd much rather be off playing games rather than consuming my spare time modeling and texturing at this point, and while these games aren't always VO (even usually at the moment) I've been having a far better time than if I had been spending my time on continuing to (attempt to) create content.
Oh well.

OK, so where is the TPG Raptor in this thread?
And who is Luis?
And oh noes! This thread can't fall off the first page!

If y'all want to *see* something, then here's a poorly textured, WIP version of a ship I made. Yes, it's a blatant rip off of the Perseus from Freespace 2. I wanted to see how it flew in John's eyes, and it didn't.

I *do* have something else I'm working on, but it's not gonna get touched for a while yet.

NOW I know why you called it the Erinyes when we talked over AIM.... hehe. Itani have a nice habit of naming specials after mythological groups of women.
