Cool ships... mmmmmm...

Dr. Seldon, if you released an unwrap... mayhaps someone would texture it for you?
Jun 03, 2005 Harry Seldon link
This might be the way to go, though I'm always hesitant to distribute my models on a large scale. I was also going to try to texture these with UV in the next few days, but I might not be able to do so in the next week or so.

I'll think about it.

I've been working on texturing yet another ship, hosted here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/Dimpfinator/Zephyrus.jpg

The thing is about sharing my models, is that anyone can then take them and use them in their own project, so I'm going to hold off on giving these out for a bit, especially since school is ending and I'll have more time to texture these.

Hrm..I ought to add some more color to the above one sometime too. :-/

*mouth hangs agape*

...

wow.

And as for the release of the unwrap... I mean as a unwrapped wireframe. It's not releasing the model, just a 2d representation of all the faces. The guys who model stuff for Warcraft 3 do it all the time. Obviously, without the model, a skinner can't really see how the mesh will stretch and all, but it can still be done.

Am I making sense?

Although I do really like your textures... maybe you should just do them yourself... mmmmmm... more pretty serco ships...

Heh, thanks for the compliment. Yea, I didn't really read your first post carefully, but I dunno how people will be able to see which part corresponds to other parts, particularly with the Atlas UV style (no, not the ship. ;) ) Anyways, if people are interested in texturing these ships and express that interest, I could host a UV map easily enough.

And on a side note, I hardly think Serco should have all the cool ships. Even if these look neat and violent and all that, Akan is hardly a peace-lover, nor are his followers.

probably really bad

You don't know until you try.

I would try as well... but I'm not patient enough for it.

Wait...I'll go see Aliens, but is the dropship named the Mjolnir?
Nope, I popped in the special edition of Aliens today, and the dropship "01" is named "Bug Stomper". Not really scary, but I guess it's appropriate for a "Bug Hunt".
The Colonial Marine starship that orbits the planet is called the "Sulaco"

Can someone make a ship smaller than a bus? Like a Scout ship with no weapons but the abbility to put a homing beacon on a target so all missiles are directed to there? Also a Cloaking abillity like in Predator 1, 2 & AvP, Only a LITTLE more visible.

I really like that idea, pirate—could make battles a *whole* lot more interesting. Cloaking would be an awesome feature too...

i'd like to see a ship that is more improvised than anything else. something along the lines of the millenium falcon, something that shows wear and tear, maybe even converted from its origional purpose.

Like... the Maurauder?

No, even more scrappy. Something that looks truly ugly and cobbled together. After all, we're talking the resourcefulness of the UIT. :D

i'll have a go...

check out this site to see a spaceship design from way back, some older players might remember this, I always wondered what the hell the pilot was supposed to do after they had used the big missile!

Designed to be a short-range fighter, based on capital ships and stations, the Hermes has been stripped of heavy components, such as a jump drive, and faster-than-light engines in order to gain an edge over other ships. Because of the folding-wing design (see hinges), Carriers save space in their holds for additional ships. Some captains have been known to outfit their ships with additional weaponry with this excess space, or replacing parts of their hangar bays with generators.

This is also a commonly seen ship on Border patrol missions, due to it's high speed and short range nature.

And uh...I still have to go see Aliens. :P

All of my ships have been modelled in Wings3d, and most were rendered in Lightwave. This was rendered in Blender, so please forgive the sloppy camera work, as the interface is kinda wierd, and I haven't quite figured it out yet.

bah im so bad at making ships EDIT MESH HATES ME!!!!!

its so bad im not even going to render it...

Not a big fan of subsurfs, are you Harry?

PS: Blender 2.37 is out! w00t!
Jun 07, 2005 Harry Seldon link
Not particularly. I prefer to see what's going on with my mesh, and let others see the same, unless I've textured it in a meaningful way (read: UV texturing). Besides, I don't know how to use Blender all that well. I've always used Strata 3D (a really old version at that), Bryce 4 (also old and pretty lame), Wings3D (w00t), and Lightwave 3D. I've just gotten Blender for when I'm away from my Lightwave 3D compy (darned hardware dongle...).

I like the Hermes design, kind of like a more-aggressive Centaur.
Your ships all have a vaguely avian design. Love it.
Can we use the Hermes as a Centaur variant for one of the factions that don't have special ships? Like Aeolus, Xang-Xi or Ineubis? Like an Aggresso but with 4 small ports?
