So the new clent will let me log in then, I'm hoping. I haven't gotten past the "entering world screen" yet without the game crashing. I submitted the crash report Tuesday.

And I hope MS Word 2001 not opening new files is completely unrelated to this beta. I am hoping it was the latest update of OS X that did it.

There's a couple mentions about locking forward motion (turbo). I discovered, quite by accident, that by pressing down "tab" and then pressing "shift" and holding down shift while letting up on tab, then letting up on shift locks the turbo as well. In both the old and new clients. Some more of you may want to try that.
Again the order for clarity:
1 Press and hold "tab"
2 Press and hold "shift"
3 Let up on "tab"
4 Let up on "shift"
I find then I'm locked in turbo until I tap "tab" again.

Thanks for making it run on 10.2.8 Ray. When are you going to release the patched version that DOES run on 10.2.8???
Jan 19, 2006 yodaofborg link
Bohemian :) you can do that in the old client too, on some os's, maybe they made it a feature, but its because when you press a key *un-shifted* (ie: w), then release a shifted key (ie W), the VO client never gets the message that the *un-shifted* key was released.

Re, the test client :

The blues are too blue, I cant explain it, but it actually gives me a headache now, I used /load to load my *normal* wgaf.cfg file with _no_ issues, but as you suggested, dropping it over the top doesnt work so well. I also tried to drop my *normal* config.ini over the top of the old one, heh, dont do that, it not only made my text really tiny (prolly due to no hudscale command) but the test client seemed to quit every 5 mins with a *Lua Error* after that.

On the upside, some features of the new UI i do like, specially the abilty to save ship setups, ect. I just cant wait to customise the colours, the blues are too *vibrant* and give me a headache, but I think if it was toned down a few shades, it would look much better.

Well, using the shift method means you can't use tab-complete while chatting. The turbo bind had the same problem. I haven't had a chance to test it yet (just noticed before heading to work), but if it lets you tab complete while boosting, without bind trickery, it's a nice thing to have.

Have you tried turning down the gamma setting under video?
Jan 19, 2006 yodaofborg link
Yep, if i turn down brightness/gamma the UI looks fine, but space is too dark, so ehum...

BUGS
1) Prolly due to the station not 'updating' missions still remain active even after sucessful completion and receiving the credits and xp. Same is true if you are outside the time limit for the mission too.
Aborting the mission or leaving station and redocking seems to cure the problem.

2)The secret wormhole in Deneb B7 still dosent work ;)

Look, I hit roids enuff when I can see em, heh, so errrm STFU!
Jan 19, 2006 dbradhud link
Mining beam progress bars do not operate properly (one or both will disappear).

Some roids are completely unlit (Betheshee C-14)

When in space, the inactive chat channel does not display text briefly as it did before.

Blue distance bar does not display

When in space and "u" is pressed, chat does not display in background.

When docking, Station chat tab is lit, even though the only message is that you've arrived. When docking to complete a mission, mission chat tab is not lit even though the mission completion text is there.

In the new UI sector K-13 crashes upon entering the sector. I've encountered this issue two times and each time it crashed my entire machine. The first time Vendetta froze at the jumping screen and the Second time it crashed while flying into a docking area for no reason at all, literally I was mid-flight. On a good note however the Hud is competely fixed, I would like to be able to size it down however I know thats coming with time.

BUG: Picking up cargo, sometimes the animation for the box disappearing doesn't finish, and you end up with glowing blue clouds sitting in space...

This hit me today. There are no tooltips. Tooltips can be a big help on everything.

The main thing I thought of was labels on the color palette. Have it show the hex code for the color index of the color you are currently over. In addition a few labels could be added such as "Itani Blue" and "Serco Red" for people wanting to match a specific nation color.

Finally, add a guild interace option for commanders of "/guild color ###" where ### is the hex index of the color (as shown by the tooltip) the guild uses as thier standard. This could additionaly be displayed on the tooltip as "[GUILD] Color".

Of course, you could also just stick a couple of buttons that say "Use nation color" and "Use guild color" to make the choice quick.

Just so nobody is surprised, we're still upside-down.

:-)
Jan 20, 2006 LeberMac link
HA. I was gonna mention that, RelayeR. External views of stations seem "upside down", and the 180 degree orientation that RelayeR is always harping on is STILL there.
Jan 20, 2006 bohemian72 link
Speaking of stations and "upside down"...
I've been playing since March and I still don't know, are the lights in the docking area on the floor as landing lights, or are they on the ceiling as just plain lighting lights?
Silly not to know, but it doesn't seem to matter how we land.
Jan 20, 2006 ghostieboy link
Er...they are lights...for deco? ^^
