The little "bug" of purchasing free batteries and crashing the sector should be deemed an exploit as of this minute.

It isn't FUNNY to use it when five or six people are all in a sector.

It isn't RIGHT.

It isn't TESTING.

It's rude, and it falls under this rule in the Rules of Conduct:

4. You may not disrupt the normal playability of a sector or area.

Sector/Area Disruption is defined as any activity designed to harm or inconvenience a number of groups rather than a specific player or group of players. This includes making excessive and inappropriate use of public channels of communications.

Upon leaving the station or entering a sector after jump and warp... and upon entering storms, my break key (rebound to x) sticks. I have to tap it to boost or move normally.

Upon entering a storm (only once) I had no steering.

1, 2, 3...etc keys are not working in cargo jettison. You have to click the J button next to the item to jettison it.

Mining - after jettisoning Aquean ore, the next one I mined appeared "above" the Lanth.

After being killed in b8, I rebought the same ship. The "rebuying" message stayed up. After a few minutes, I hit cancel. The ship was purchased but none of the addons were.

From this point forward, anyone who uses bugs in the test client to crash other players will earn themselves a 24-hour ban for the first offense, as this is a violation of the Rules of Conduct.

Further offenses will be handled by the Devs, and they are not as... forgiving as I am. I'm gonna cross-post this to game news.

Yes. I was going to post something earlier but I didn't want to encourage anybody.

I'll patch the production server now.

Hmm. On Linux, I get "Fatal Error: Could not open window" when launching from command line. Other 32-bit apps (F@H, etc) work fine, and OpenGL apps (glxgears, tuxracer, etc) work fine. Interesting. I'll gdb it... GDB says "Function main not defined". However, if I launch from Nautilus (Gnome), it works fine. Odd?

My client crashes too, at the same spot, only I have Mac OS 10.4.4 and a 1GHz eMac with 768mb of ram and an ATi Radeon 7500 32MB video card.
Jan 18, 2006 roguelazer link
I found my problem. It only fails to launch if I open it from another directory. For example, if I'm in ~ and I type "./Desktop/vendetta_beta1/vendetta.linux.ia32", it doesn't run. But if I type "cd ./Desktop/vendetta_beta1; ./vendetta.linux.ia32", it works.
Jan 18, 2006 raybondo link
ok everyone.
I read through this thread and wrote down all the problems so far.
I'm too lazy to type them all here but there's at least 35 bugs I have written down.
There are others I already fixed and some that were already known about.

A couple major bugs were fixed already:
- mac version will run on 10.2.8
- missing sections of some HUD/UI elements (they were all progress bars)
- tab-completion works on all platforms
- ships render properly

A new client with all/most bugs fixed will be released either Thursday or Friday.

Oh yeah, Replenish All ammo should currently only replenish the active ship's weapons, even though all weapons are listed.

Just a quick question, the new client has locked up on my 1.25Ghz G4 emac again. It seems to lock up and lots of stuff starts to happen(well in a ion storm trying to fight a bot, it locked up, and keept skipping the sound that it last played before it locked up, and I had to hold down the power button to turn off the computer, force quiting didn't work, computer wasn't responding). There don't seem to be anything in the error logs.

So, I was wondering, is this due to my graphics card choking (ati radeon 9200 with 32megabytes of vram). I had shaders on and full screen glow, and running at 1024 by 768 with that 32btt or what ever it's called. I never used to have shaders or full screen glow on, but they seem to run better with this client(or maybe I haven't tried with the old client with 10.4.3). I'll try it again after updating to 10.4.4
Jan 18, 2006 raybondo link
I would recommend lowering texture resolution or turning off shaders (or both) because 32meg of vram isn't much these days.
Jan 18, 2006 macguy link
I figured it was the texture resolution and shaders :( Oh well.
Jan 19, 2006 Chikira link
Even with a more powerful brand new G5 system I find some texture loading to be a real FPS killer, for example at a high setting the FPS, averages out at 30 around stations and 60 in regular space, however with very high textures the FPS tanks to 3 to 11 fps near stations and a low of around 20.2 in regular space.

Strange how in running vendetta on my pc, very high textures actually improve FPS from around 50 fps to nearly 70 to 80! And the pc is an about a 2004 high end computer *custom* , about a year and half behind technology wise.

seems to work now, i had to reunzip it and forgot to put on keep internal structure in the unpacker...
Jan 19, 2006 yodaofborg link
Far be it from me to be critical, but by heck, thats ugly (maybe tacky is the correct term) and its nowhere near as *intuitive* as the old interface, I hope you are writing a tutorial covering every aspect. Me, yodaofborg, took 7 minites to work out how to buy a new ship!

It looks like your designing it for 5 year olds!

[edit]

I just got told that it will be more customisable, well, I hope I can make it look exactly like the *alpha* UI :P
Jan 19, 2006 Demonen link
LOL yoda, change is bad?

Anyway, I just took a quick look at it, but I think it kicks ass.

Great Work, Devs! Can't wait for this to become the Real Client and stable and all that. Yay!
Jan 19, 2006 Starfisher link
Yoda, I figured out how to buy a new ship in about ten seconds of clicking then reading the menu. The only reason the last UI was "intuitive" for you was because you'd been using it for so long!

Overall things look a lot spiffier. Yoda's five year old comment actually made me look at it again and yeah, it's almost too smooth and clean. But then, that ties into the whole "I WANT TO WALK AROUND STATIONS" thing - maybe someday ;) . It feels like I'm interacting with some sort of station website, which is fine, but somewhat less... gritty than most space games.

I like how if you start to chat while turboing it locks the turbo on!
Jan 19, 2006 Ion link
In terms of visual impression, I actually prefer the old interface. It was sharper and harder, while this is smoother and has the same plastic toy-feel that I had the first time I tried Windows XP (and, since I am a mac and linux user, and used to the plasticness of Aqua and some KDE themes, this is saying something...)

However, when it comes to station navigation and structural improvements, the new UI is absolutely wonderful. There's not a single thing that hasn't been improved and made easier to use. And just like starfisher said, it gives you a very immersive StationNet feeling, which will do a lot for me, at least.

I haven't tested this theory extensively, but perhaps it is yoda who is designed for 5-year olds? :-P

(I heard someone referring to the turbo lock-while-issuing-witty-banter-feature as a bug. I truly hope it's not, and that it's here to stay...)
Jan 19, 2006 Starfisher link
A bug? Oh please god no, let it stay. Just about every MMO where you control a character locks forward motion while typing. You could do it before with a simple bind, I know, but it's a very nice 'feature'.
Jan 19, 2006 zamzx zik link
yep Ion, check the control panels out...like in graphics, it looks reeaaallly crummy there the wind0ze look makes vendetta look like trash...

change the log in screen texture to something aken to a Xith roid....
