There will be change. The only option you have, is to help decide what that change will be.
like when we decided to tell the devs we wanted to get rid of the APL and they listened?

Maybe you can help Obama come up with campaign slogans for the 2012 election, Roda. You seem to have the message down pat.

Proposal:
Make a VOTING amongst players, with proposed choices
Seems that community is really divided on this, and its a sort of who screams louder wins now... so a formal voting is the most FAIR way to understand community choices.
Give one vote for each subscriber and it will be fair.
Incomplete list of proposals:
1) Leave as is now
2) Return full APL
3) Ban IRC bot also

4) Hourly update of players
5) ...

One possible solution to satisfy all sides just occured me:
Create a simbol for "@Anonymous" players, invisible in-game.
So you can defeat the ALT trackers, while providing the number of online players, and showing up whoever want to appear.
Example, I want to have 2 alts, MrBadGuy and MrGoodGuy. So I create 2 alts as:
MrGoodGuy - who appears in APL and in-game as MrGoodGuy
@MrBadGuy - who appears in APL as $Anonymous#1 (sequence number) and simply as MrBadGuy in game.

The ability to place a poll at the top of a thread you start would be a nice thing; of course it's likely to get gamed, but it might be better than nothing.
Alloh, voting on ideas... (though I'm sure you're not the first to think of it)... is a good idea, in fact its probably the best you've ever posted. Lecters right, it would probably cheated like Florida in an election year, but... it is better than nothing.
Why not try, in 2 steps / topics, with clear END DATE:
1) one to discuss and raise the major options, as I proposed above.
2) A VOTING-ONLY topic. Each one receives one vote/post, no arguing, only his/her vote. One can edit his own post, and OR moderator deletes additional posts, or we simply ignore it.
As a 1st suggestion, run 1 week each, so (1) ends on 05/31 and (2) ends on 06/07.

a poll is not a web page mechanic. it is a collection of opinions. I did start a poll.

it is in another thread, so it will not be diluted by debate. this is a debate thread, and a poll would get lost here. each has it's place. feel free to cross link the two threads.
it is not like we do not have people trying to game the system already. we have people telling us to stop discussing the subject, telling us that everyone is opposed to ideas other than their own, and in general attempting to obstruct meaningful conversation, and yet unwilling to make any meaningful suggestions of their own.
Alloh: To take your suggestion in reverse. an opt in system. you are anon by default, but can enter a command at any time to list your char on the page. advertise to your friends (or enemies) that you are on.

Stop being a jackass, Rode-a; and, if you insist on being a jackass, try to be right about it.
A poll is, exclusivly and necessarily, neither a "web page mechanic" nor your conception of a "collection of opinions." What is being suggested is quite obviously a forum improvement, and it would be useful for garnering a potentially broader spectrum of views on an issue than one would get by having everyone have to write a post in response to one of your infantile mental pukes of a thread in order to express their thoughts.
If you don't like that, or don't think belongs here in this thread, or weren't hugged enough as a child . . . I couldn't care less. You're missing the first requirement for being a smart-ass, so knock it off.

Given the current state of the vo community, a poll would simply be useless theird be too much gaming of the system.
In the past year and a half or so the primary focus of VO seems to have shifted from actually playing the game, to how to game the system for some infinitesimally small advantage and bragging rights.

I would be happy to discuss the subject of a web poll, in a thread on that topic.
And I would be interested in complying with what you'd prefer... why, Rode-a?
and now the thread has been successfully derailed.
as for the "only 6 people" supposedly supporting this idea... the majority of the opposition (numbering about the same) markedly ignored the OP, or made wild accusations which were unrelated to the suggestion at hand.
I'm sure the devs have seen the thread by now, and have an idea of what I (and some others) would like. Since we've now meandered far off the topic for the second time in this thread... I call for a lock.

Also as Atice clearly ignored the fact that I and others made valid arguments against the OP, in favor of saying that we ignored the OP, when in fact it was addressed while his feelings were ignored, and then there was some fun yelling, which is probably best ignored which led to other people posting opinions in favor of the op which he chose not to ignore, while those against it could not ignore them and responded addressing the issues which were in turn ignored by Atice, which led to more fun yelling, which led to an idea by Alloh that should probably not be ignored, which led to Roda and Lecter not ignoring each other, which led Alloh to an opinion which should likely be ignored, which led to Atice attempting to save face and requesting a thread lock... (which I hope is ignored), which led to me saying ignore a lot.

ryan: I said "majority" for a reason.
I'd also say that most, if not all, of the valid arguments against the OP were based on the wish for the removal of current game mechanics which would in turn make the OP less simple (which I chose not to argue against as they are valid opinions). Some of the other arguments against were based on non-verifiable opinions... and as such did not contribute to a discussion based on fact.
However, that summary was pretty hilarious.
Lock now?

What if you only showed up as online if you had been seen in monitored space and had come within 1000m of a nation's forces, and he had then docked (thus reporting the sighting)
or something else that could be a game mechanic, since it very much can control some game mechanics.

Zamzx, slightly better. Still, I'm against anyone not logged in knowing anything going on in game. Some one had the idea that if yo are seen by a player (get with in 5000m) then the list updates, thats not so bad. Although I regard the OP and any derivatives as bad ideas, that is the best of the worst.
I think you should have to be ingame and online to see the APL or whatever replaces it. Agree?
I'm just not a fan of the APL or... (just for you Atice)... the RPL, I just don't think it needs to be replaced. Removed and forgotten is just fine. How ever, IF the devs decide that something needs to replace it, I can agree that people would have to be logged in to the game to see it.
