I contribute to Infinity: The Quest for Earth.

Sweet. I'm following the devs on twitter (well, their engine's twitter feed I guess).

I wonder how this (and other ships this size) will handle docking/undocking at regular stations.

Well, good to see enthusiasm, many folk want more ships.

Nice... I've been following Infinity, too. If that game ever gets released... well... fuck everything else in my life.

I think the ship looks plenty Serco. It's got the industrial look and pill-box style cockpit window of the Prom. The only features that I would take off would possibly be the antennas and the intake things on those engines. I only know of Hive ships that have antennas and that style of intake thingies are more of a trademark of TPG ships (e.g. Constellations and Teradons).

Your ship, though, and it looks great so far.

Actually, the Prometheus has 2 antennae.

PS, anyone know how to do things like edit, and respond to page 2 without jumping back to page 1?

Those are the s-port weapon mounts, not antennae.

Well, all I have to go by is a picture. They looked like antennae. Plus, the Behemoth, Constellation, Valkyrie, Marauder, and Vulture all have such widgets on them, none of which correspond to the number of weapon ports given by the wiki.

I may still be wrong, but they seem an awful lot like antennae to me.

If you look at this picture below, you'll see that they are clearly meant to be weapon ports.
Those two large things in the Constellation could be antennae though.
On the small ships you mentioned, the "widgets" do correspond to the number of weapon ports..

It appears I am, indeed, wrong. I'll change it around a bit. The large antennae might be ok though, right? I'm rather fond of them.

I could imagine a version of this ship as a high performance trader, having the handling of a taur, with three L ports, and about 100 cu cargo space. For example, if it had an empty mass of 50,000 and enough thrust to make it fly like a taur, then it would also be fun to fly when loaded.

So you mean like a taur that can load out 3 AGT/Chaos and handle like its near empty, hmmm it sounds so... hmmm balanced.

At 2684 triangles, this is firmly in the capship family. I'll wait for comments and suggestions before beginning the process of uv mapping and texturing this puppy.

The scale seems a bit off to me. Right now, the moth is the longest non-capship at 34m (though, I think that number is for reference only and may not be completely accurate). For a length of 50m it doesn't quite look right, and I think it is because of the pipe on the side. Perhaps try decreasing the diameter of that pipe a bit, or maybe add some more polygon detail in that area.

Or maybe the scale will look more appropriate once textured. Just my two cents, anyway.

My sense of scale has definitely been off. I'll have to take off a couple hundred tris. Looks like capships start at 100 meters.
May 01, 2011 slime73 link
Yeah it can often be hard to get a sense of scale just by playing VO normally or looking at screenshots.
May 01, 2011 TerranAmbassador link
Got rid of some stuff, and brought it down to 2376 triangles:

Thanks for that pic, slime. Now I have a general reference for future projects. Scale goofing shouldn't happen again.

I still like it. Just a thought... what if rather than a cappie, this was a strictly Serco variant of the Moth? That would a step towards a much needed distinction between ships of various nations.

Cant wait to see the finished product.
May 01, 2011 TerranAmbassador link
Sure. It's too small to be a capship anyway. Based on the pic slime put up, capships start at around 75-100 meters.
May 02, 2011 ShankTank link
Seems a bit too narrow to be a Moth replacement. Statistically identical but visually differentiated ships should have roughly congruent models as to not impede it in the large portion of VO ship balance that revolves around profile.
