BAH I SAY!!!

All this whining about the moth... cmon!
Seriously, Dev's please, do beat the moth silly with ye trusty nerf stick.

Only, when people enmass, begin complaining about how impossible solo trading in a moth is will you have achieved your moth nerfing goal.

For your convenience please find the moth nerfing formula below:
if solo(moth != 'EXPLODE') { Failure }
if solo(moth == 'EXPLODE') { Success }

See, it's so easy.

PS. how about a couple of solid whacks on that uber sercon gun bucket or prom if you’re of the toaster persuasion

I'm a trader, and I'm all for the proposed changes including nerfing the Behemoth. I'm especially looking forward to the economy and crafting updates, because it gives trading and getting the cargo to it's destination (or stopping it) more of a purpose. It also gives ship destruction more of a real penalty, since you might be unable to simply purchase another one, or the costs will go up.

Who knows, maybe the Marauder will even become relevant again as a cargo vessel.

I can see both sides of the argument being valid, but the one that tips it off for me, is that making the moth slower while retaining its armor (maybe even boosting it a bit...?) also makes it easier to defend, in some ways.

I agree with Screwball on most points but the maud one. That ship won't become relevant until it is tweaked further. Something as simple as giving it better thrust so it doesn't handle like a moth when full of cargo willl make it useful, but as it stands right now, it's too slow to get started and too weak. All my trading mauds I've lost im that critical time between pointing at the womrhole/3000m and achieving full turbo thrust; pirates or bots, they always catch up and boom you.

AKA Ecka Estenk,

My TGFT colleague Screwball makes a valid point.

If the moth is nerfed a bit then the advanced convoy operating techniques which we Traders have been developing will add another interesting dimension to the game.

Can you hire AI escorts yet? If there was a way to set up a convoy, and put it up on the mission board where AI and players can join the convoy with players in the moths, that'll be pretty sweet.

I just realized:
We drop stuff when we die.
I always use a UC battery.

Now I'm even MORE of a target than usual, 'cause folks will covet my Ultra-Charge!
Mar 29, 2006 slime73 link
MUHAHAHA! Now I won't have to a nice mentor to get an UC!

Oh wait, I'm itani.....
Mar 29, 2006 jexkerome link
You're also slime. Of the 73 kind, no less.

Oh wait, that was covered by "Itani" :P

(a) Make a serco/itani char
(b) bot it up to 4/4/4
(c) buy N3s. /explode
(d) Switch to itani/serco char.
(e) Profit!!!!

(and various other possibilities.)

/just sayin'

they do *NOW* hehe

I should elaborate, since my (various other possibilities) point of which the N3 has been a simple illustrative example, has been unfortunately missed.

Basically, this "pick up stuff" thing means that all your alts now share access to all equipment. It also means that your friends (if they don't mind dying), share access of their equipment with you. Even better, all your friends' alts share access to all your alts' equipment!

Need the AAPs that your Axia-hated pirate cannot get? No problem, build a peaceful Axia-lovin' trader (or get your friend to get his axia-lovin alt) and there you are done, etc etc...

Now, I am a big fan of getting rid of the "level requirements" for equipment, so I am not against this idea. In fact I think it's great (hence "just sayin'"). But consider the implications before this become yet another exploit, and build some safe-guards into it (like, say having your dead guy's equipment time-out if you log in with a new alt...but then this is also exploitable if you think about it...)
Mar 29, 2006 MSKanaka link
Simple fix: If you can't purchase it (level-wise or whatever will eventually be used) you can't use/equip it. Pick it up and carry it places, yes, but not equip it.
Mar 29, 2006 softy2 link
MSKanaka :

Then Leber would be so happy that nobody's going to go after his UC :P.

More seriously, I thought about that fix, but it kinda defeats the whole purpose of salvage. The most fun part is getting stuff you can't buy yourself.

aww crap! me too! :(

I love where this game is going!

Losing salvaged equipment that you can't buy provides the "death penalty" that so many threads have been dedicated to...plus I understand that in the Alpha days ships were upgraded by drops, not purchases...so in a way this can be a return to roots....

Exploits are exploits, people always find a way...and the news said their was a percentage of a chance to drop, not ga-run-teed to drop...so there is a moneysink at the least as peeps buy 30 times as many nuet 3s as they hope to drop....

Keep up the good work devs! :)
