Really, as a paying customer its high time the moth was made into something more veunerable so people cant just fly around in it and avoid attackers by pressing the turbo button.

As a paying customer I expect to have changes that will benefit the game as a whole. As a paying customer for a fun game, I like it when the changes result in more "fun", regardless of whether they make my trade runs go from the level of "free money" down a slight amount to "ridiculously easy."

Decrease the moths armor, I'll still trade in boringspace(tm).

As a paying customer I expect to... ermm.. pay?

Seriously, though, I for one am looking forward to the changes. I may even venture outside the safe and comfortable confines of B8.

As a paying pirate, I aint assed about moths and the likes, cos as long as they have mines to drop on my head, things will be ok, eh moldy? :P

But yeah, sounds like ye will be (at last) dropping loads of stuff on our heads all at once! YAY!

You can't have an online game that adds new content without the existing content changing, the same happens in WoW and many games that allow online play. Balancing units or races is normal.

I'm amazed that anyone can complain about "repeated mucking about" when I haven't been able to do any balance changes for half a year.

Anyway, I'm sure we're in for a bout of further mucking about, as balancing all these new ships is going to be.. uhh.. exciting! Plus I am also tweaking some existing stuff.. and just wait until we have to redo the economy. Oh boy. But, we'll aim to make the impact as low as possible.

As a trader, I think nerfing the moth is just fine. Right now, it is far to easy too drop a few mines and run when flying solo. More TGFT convoys to come...

mucking about.. is that a new phrase for getting stuff done? or perhaps its a new phrase for releasing a new client? or .. I know.. its a new phrase for delivering on the Soon(tm)'s from long ago.. yay devs!@! I for one would like to see a lot more "mucking about" !! w00t!@

I agree with thanatos (whoever he may be)as if the ability to warpkill running traders wasn't enough, they now have to take one of the slowest ships ingame and make it slower, i thought things were supposed to be well balanced, not leaned entirely towards the pirates, i respect peoples right to pirate, but this? MEH!

Two words: Player Escorts.

I've used them for a quite a while, and I've yet to be pirated successfully when flying like that. Some are so good or feared (Niki comes to mind) that the pirates often desist after being PWNED by the escort once.

YES!.. nice post inc

and as far as balanced toward the pirates?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Mar 28, 2006 LeberMac link
Apparently vlasik and thanatos have never tried pirating. It's... really really hard. I wonder if they've heard of the Vipers? You know, do-gooders, usually found in B8, protecting traders and offering up escort service when available?

I'm not trying to say im disappointed in the update as a whole, sounds like a lot of great things are going to be coming out, and i agree that the moth is hard to kill. However, this balance i think would be much better acheived by significantly lowering the armor, not the speed of the moth. the moth is not hard to catch only hard to kill

The moth is not the only trading ship in the universe. It's basically a small freighter, and it was never intended to be the armored powerhouse that it has been for so long.

Basically, if one is trading solo, one should probably give some thought to the balance of defense and cargo capacity (profit). Trading with a moth is higher profit, and higher risk. The moth was originally defined to require an escort of some sort.. I did a "temporary" armor boost that ended up being the "norm" for faar too long.

Also, we do have NPC escorts in development on the test server. Not as good as a real player, but a distration to attackers, and maybe enough to let a clever trader get away.

SWEEEET. Im so digging this thought-space direction of coolness! DIE MOTH DIE!

Pirates of the galaxy rejoice! Snobby traders will no longer bite their thumbs at thee! We shall once again rule the galaxy with a mahogany fist of danger spiked with toothpicks and ready to jab in the eyes and buttocks of any who oppose us!!
