What happened to the Trident? I don't mean to sound negative, but why would the devs get us all excited about a new ship when they've got the Trident (hopefully) coming down the tubes very shortly?

The Trident? Is that the "frigate" ship that was shown once, about 3 weeks ago?

I have yet to see this ship.

I have excellent news, from a trusted source! This new medium-range capital ship will be pilotable by human players!
However, because it just wouldn't do to have everyone rushing about in their own little cap-ship of their own, the ship will only be made available to a certain minority of players. Namely, the ones with an alpha tag. Of course, not every one of those will be approved, but you have to be an alpha to even be considered, since flooding the reviewers of applications (I'm assuming these are gonna be the current guides) with all sorts of newb hopefuls would not be cool.

Explain to me how the Alpha tag requirement is good news?

Quick because blood pressure is mounting.

I could understand it being restricted to guild commanders (and Lts) but beyond that, it's favoritism.

Well, because I have one?
Anyway, the "good news" thing referred to the "player pilotable!" part.
Don't worry. I'm sure it'll get to be so that anyone can have one at some point!

I hope that alpha nonsense is not true. That would be a really effective way for the devs to alienate their paying subscriber base.....

Genka is speaking, people. Why are you taking the troll seriously?

Of course it's true! Didn't I say I got this from a "trusted source"?
Very trusted! One of the best of it's kind!

lol noob forum readers.

First off, everything genka says needs to be taken with a grain (hmm grains not enough.. pinch.. no still need more... ahh oil-tanker.. thats just about right) of salt.

second, even if they do restrict the first few it will probably be to players they trust to put them through thier paces and quickly and accurately report any bugs. Odds are if they go this route that MOST of the players who would get them would be alpha's, simply because they have had the longest to get to know those people, (and probably the first ones to get access would be the guides themselves)

Finally maybe thats one of the "perks" incarnate has been promising alpha players and pre-order subscribers since they started talking about going live with the game. the opportunity to play with the shiny new toys a few weeks before others. :)

IF that were true, they should restrict it to the test server and only allow alphas to log in and test, then bring it to the public server for any who meet the requirements. Otherwise it's just plane favoritisim. But, that's IF you believe what Genka says. I'll wait and see.

hey john, there is nothing that says they arent allowed to give potentially unbalanced equipment to people that they trust not to abuse it. especially in the case of testing new items, If you consider that playing favorites than i think maybe you need a reality check.

There are some players who quite frankly CANT be trusted to submit exploits and bugs when they find them, and there are some bugs that will only occur in the production server because it just has many more complex interactions occuring.

(on the other hand its still a genka-inspired topic of conversation, and i'm still working on that oil tanker full of salt)

As far as I'm concerned, if a bug has made it to the production server it's fair game. I'm not paying Guild to beta test. Regardless, I prefaced that entire statement with a BIG "IF", so chill out there Spellcast. You want to give the alpha/beta players something that no one else has fine. But not cap ships, something they promised the server about 6 months ago. And yes I know there was a lot of work that needed to be done to get the game ready for player controlled cap ships but that's TOO big of a release to only give it to a fraction of the population to use. In any case, I still await the arrival and actual implementation from the devs before starting a bitch fest. And my guess is that it will be for all so I'm not too worried anyway. =)

Wait, so you actually expect the cap ships to be available to just about everyone when they come?
Heh. Now THAT is what I call delusional.

I just hope you need combat piloting 20 license.
