Sounds fair, but they should probably fix the cargo bug first :P

Since the Goliath Grid has been reduced, will you make a mission or some way for Goli Owners, who have already built, take the material that was used to build it and let us add the necessary extra materials to it and make a Trident out of it?

A lot of players have worked hard for the Goli with the specs it had before this change and should have the option to convert that work into a Trident.

That belongs in a thread of its own, NC-Crusader.

Yes and no, Pizza. While a separate thread could be dedicated to NCs suggestion, keep in mind that THIS is the Forum Thread dedicated to Suggestions, and more specifically, relating to the nursing of the Goliath power grid. Therefore I believe NC what's correct in posting in here, and I also believe that it has merit.

*nerfing

Unless I'm mistaken, NC-Crusader is just asking for a "dis-assembly" mission, to reduce it to component parts. There was a PCC project to create these for the Trident, at one point, I'm not sure if one was made for the Goliath or not. But I don't have a problem with the notion (with some caveats).

But, it should probably be in another thread, because it isn't specifically about the "nerfing" of the goliath per-se, it's just about other options for Goliath owners who want to "step up" to a larger capital ship.

It seemed to me that NC was bringing that suggestion to the table as a result of the grid nerfing, but I also see where you're coming from Incarnate. As stated previously, I have no issues with the reduction of the Goliaths Power Grid, however, the big question that remains unanswered is this: Is this strictly going to be a take, or will there be a GIVE and take? NC brings, in my opinion, a legitimate topic of discussion to the table when he said that people have built their Goliaths with the expectation of the original loadouts, and I would like to add that the same goes for Trident owners. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities, or unfair in the least, that the Goliath have the larger cargo capacity but lower defensive capabilities, while the Trident has a smaller cargo capacity but with the superior firepower. Wash brought up MANY valid points, one of which, in sum and substance, was that the Goliath had a clear advantage regarding speed, maneuverability and acceleration, AND had almost as much firepower as a trident, which is understandably a slap in the face to Trident owners. Now that the Goliath has been forced into more of a freighter role than a combat role, it should have a larger cargo capacity than the Trident. Simply put, a Goliath would be better for trading/hauling, and a Trident would be for superior firepower.

As I posted earlier in the thread, I empathize with Goliath owners who have spent time and invested a lot in their ships. But, there are also no ship configurations in this game that are not subject to potential change (including Tridents, etc). It's an evolving game, the only guarantee is an occasional need for change.

This change was certainly not done lightly, nor without a lot of thoughtful, advance discussion.. as this thread illustrates.

The Goliath is intended to be an entry-level capship. The baseline of the class, a "relatively easy to acquire" capship, that has shields, turrets and docking/reload capability. The value of a capship is still evolving, and there is a lot of additional content that is likely to impact them in the future.

No, the Goliath will not be receiving some new cargo capacity that makes it better than the Trident. That notion is not in keeping with the intent of the ship at all.

For the moment, I've left the speed and maneuverability of the ship intact, which frankly continues to be a major advantage to the vessel. I disagree with the notion that the ship has been relegated to "freighter" status. It still provides a lot of options.

It's entirely likely that there'll be some on-going tweaking of other related content (capship addons, etc) moving forward, and if we're lucky, maybe some new items. I think it's best to leave the Goliath as-is for awhile, and see how that works out.

A Goliath can currently carry 800cu, while a dent carries 1200. I think fixing the XC bug that allows this cargo expansion should bring down the gap between the two capships cargo capacity, so the dent is left with only a 33% higher capacity.

Ofcourse this wouldn't be received well, but it should even it out.

Well i guess it will be just roaming around with a caprail on the back as u cant equip it to fight other capships.
Sep 30, 2018 -Wash- link
Yes you can equip it to fight other capships, you just have to actually work for it now and have a strategy as opposed to turboing while spamming 3 capswarm turrets or two swarm turrets and a rail.

Incarnate, well said! I hope that everyone can read your response, because that will clear up lots and lots of questions/complaints that I've been seeing in chat.

Anewold, you can still battle other Capitol ships. Think of World War II, and the Battle of the Bulge. The German Panzer tank DEFINITELY had the advantage in terms of armor and firepower, but the American Sherman tank was faster and more maneuverable, those two advantages, as well as some brazen tactics, were major contributing factors to the Americans winning that battle. I agree with Wash: you just have to actually work for it now.
