Corvus Greyhound (Interceptor-class Warthog)

That would mean it'd take twice as long to get around, smittens.

Not really. Most of the time I'm flying around I'm not in an infiniboost ship. Greyhound can be the exception though. Also maybe an even faster ship without weapons just meant for travel

This discussion started here: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/21442?page=2#265771 However, I think people have had enough time to muck about in these for us to get a feel for what works and what doesn't. My suggested changes below--Dev comment would be much appreciated.

Corvus Greyhound Mk II (Interceptor-class Warthog):

Armor: 9500
Mass: 4800 kg
Thrust: 250 N/ 400 N turbo (Can the Devs verify that it actually HAS bifurcated turbo thrust (i.e., 250 N normal, 350 N turbo) now? The wiki doesn't mention it.)
Repair Cost: I love the initial cost. I'd be fine with it being even higher; people should take care of their Hounds, and not have to replace them. However, it is frequently cheaper to replace a severely damaged Hound than to repair it. Even a moderately damaged Hound is in the 80,000 repair cost range. My suggestion is that Hounds cost no more than 1000 credits/% to repair.

I have noticed that about the repair bills, tapped a roid and had to pay 7k for it lol. But I think the energy/s should be upped by one or two so it's not infi-boost but very close to it. Just enough so it still dominates multi-sector or short chases but can't be used to run in circles in one sector for 3 days.
Jun 10, 2009 Dr. Lecter link
It would still be able to run in circles--see, e.g., Valks. However, lack of infinboost would severely handicap its ability to be an effective energy based interceptor. So, no.

Whilst I have my reservations about the proposed adjustments to the weight and armour of the ship (as stated on the thread Dr. Lecter linked to) I will wait for a dev to comment on the proposed changes.
Jun 11, 2009 Pyroman_Ace link
I like the changes, I agree that the present repair costs are astronomical and unsustainable for fleets of the vessels (as we may see when a Grey Nation comes about).

I do find the Hound a very pleasant, and useful hot-rod for crossing from hotspot to hotspot in the universe, and a capable ship for minor escort skirmishes on the way there and back.

I'd also like to see restrictions on the Greyhound that would cut down on non-pirate use. Devs, is it possible to require that one be KOS with at least two of the three major nations in order to buy a Hound? Pirates will probaby maintain standing with at least one nation for the sake of easy access to more stations that are in Grey alone (before UIT space became near impossible to get into, tri-nation KOS would have been a more common pirate alignment).

I hardly see anyone using the Greyhound, sadly.

A pirate like entity that sells black market goods, charges more for equipment, and lowers license requirements decides to limit its potential customer base for the Hound by requiring two nation KOS standings? I call bullshit on you Lecter.
Jun 12, 2009 Dr. Lecter link
The Serco and Itani allow POS members of the other nation to gain standing and get their most sensitive military equipment? I call bullshit on VO.

Surb, most things in this game have little to do with what would occur IRL: they, like my suggestion, are driven by game mechanics. That is to say, if you want to have access to Corvus special ships, rather than just black market standard weapons/ships, you're should not be one of those [TGFT]/[VPR] types who everyone BUT Corvus loves.

If you ache for an 'in character' explanation, try this: Corvus is unlikely to sell weapons to those who would use them against its interests--making money by blindly selling to anyone who wants to buy is no serious organization's modus operandi. So fuck your mother, Surb. Next time you want to get snotty, have a cogent argument.
Jun 12, 2009 Surbius link
The argument is cogent due to Corvus being exactly what it's expected to be, lawless. It's a collective of stations with no clear goal but existence outside of Nation control. Simply put, it's open to all. Plus what you suggest is self serving to you without regard to any sense of balance.

Now about a faction redux for fixing serco flying itani ships and itani flying serco ships, I agree, but that's for another thread.

Also, that hostile remark wasn't needed.
Jun 12, 2009 Pointsman link
There shouldn't be any doubt that the Syndicate is self-serving and deliberate...

But I don't know if it is desirable from a gameplay point of view to restrict greyhound sales in this way.

*shrugs*

/me laughs at Surbius for crying because of a hostile remark.

a collective of stations with no clear goal but existence

Pay closer attention to Dev commentary on Corvus. Regardless, they're not going to shoot themselves in the foot--there's no net profit to selling your best ships to those who will then use them against you and lessen your future profits.

And since I have characters who are not pirates, it's not really self serving in the way you suggest. This is a simple balance point: pilots should not have access to the Valk, and the SCP, and UIT space, and the Hound. Pick any two you like, and soon the Valk and SCP will be mutually exclusive.

"This black market cluster of stations has become a major haven for pirate activity, mercenaries and corporations who simply wish to avoid Senate oversight."

It's black market, trading at its purest form. They thrive from multiple sources and groups that seek what they offer in terms of equipment or trade. The worst that comes of it is a trader uses a Hound to shoot down a pirate. They are hardly shooting themselves as they make their own equipment in which the trader buys the Hound to shoot down the pirate and so the pirate comes back to buy more equipment.

A vicious circle, but primarily a greater benefit to the supplier. The only way they can shoot themselves in the foot is if they let nationalist entities operate in gray space seeking a claim. As traders and cops go, they're not nation bound, at least not VPR or TGFT.

Corvus and external faction requirements do not mix.
Jun 13, 2009 ShankTank link
The MKII is a cheaper version of the MKI and a special weapon they would not give to the same faction that's trying to bring them down. They would much rather give the people that they reluctantly do business with the more expensive less powerful version. I think this external faction requirements thing (and the MKII) should definitely wait until the faction redux, though...

Edit: someone needs to turn on the dev spot light so we know if a possible upcoming faction redux will be able to do stuff like this.

If the damage your enemy would do with a ship you sold them cost you more than you charged for the ship then why would you sell it? If you charged more than they could gain then why would they buy it?

If you both benefit from the transaction then they aren't really your enemy.

i think lecter thinks the greyhound is a lot better then it actually is.. maybe if he ever got in game and flew it he would realize a hound two offers 100x more bang for the buck.
Jun 13, 2009 Dr. Lecter link
Pey, I've flown it and have suggested upping its stats accordingly.
Jul 06, 2009 peytros link
this is has to be the absolute worst fucking ship ever put into game all people do is spam flares or rockets with it and run with impunity take it out only ninnys fly it. it sucks for pirating it can't manuever for shit in a dog fight and it creates endless chasses. honestly i think i have seen more gnats flying this ship then anything else
