I'm running the exact same settings that I've always run on this comp with VO, but I get a big drop in FPS during combat on the new client. Anyone else experiencing this who normally hasn't had FPS problems?
does it get worse after running the client for a while?
i use the same setttings aswell, but i didnt experience any drop in FPS during combat, however i do experience insane lag with everyone i fight, never had that problem before.
i adressed this to spellcast, who replyed i was full of shit, so no help there.
i fought lots off diff ppl in diff locations, and the lag was just insane.
so pvping is pretty much useless for me atm.
oh, and for some reason, my CPU is working at 90% when i sit in a station, that doesnt make any sence to me at all. (causing my cpu fan to go at max speed ) its a P4 2,8 GHz HT

Alright, this is weird. I've tried adjusting all the settings, no difference. Even lowering my res and scene detail does nothing to help the choppiness. I'm starting to think maybe this isn't an FPS issue?
I've always run VO with maxed graphics and video settings before and had no problem on this comp. I played almost all of the beta versions of the new client with maxed graphics settings and had no issues. I've changed nothing, but as of the production release of the new client, I am getting an uncomfortable level of choppyness during gameplay.

Yes, I perceive more choppiness and lagginess during combat with 1.5 than 1.2.6. I will document it to the best of my ability tonight.
(Although last night I turned all of my settings down to almost the bare minimums, and I was getting 160 fps+ in sparse sectors, and 50+ fps during combat sessions in B8 if I remember correctly.)

Ghost: are on on macosx? If so, see if there's some dashboard applet that is running that may be stealing some cpu/video resources from VO. There was an applet on our mac that caused VO to be very choppy and when I killed that applet, VO ran nice and smooth. (well, as smooth as it could with a geforce 5200 ;).
Norseman: VO always used as much cpu as it can. The only time it doesn't is when the window is not active in Windows, ie. minimized or not the active window.

I know that Vendetta won't use all of the cpu when running on linux with nvidia drivers that have vsync enabled and your fps is maxed out at your refresh rate.
From the release highlights for version 5328:
"Reduced CPU usage when OpenGL applications are syncing to vblank."

I'm on windows.
Have an ATI Radeon x600SE Video card. Pentium 4 processor with 3.2 GHz. I've never had any problems with choppyness running this game or any of the beta clients we've gone through. This is the first problem I've ever experienced with VO on this comp. I can run games that have a much higher requirement at maxed out settings and still have no problem. Thus I'm almost positive it's not my hardware thats the issue.
I've tried adjusting settings ingame to no avail. Even lowering the resolution and scene detail does nothing to fix the choppiness. Thus I have no idea what is causing the problems. I have no programs running in the background.
Everything has always run smoothly, even on the recent Beta 8. What may have changed from Beta 8 to the client release that could be causing this choppiness?

Nothing changed from beta8 to 1.5 that would cause the choppiness.
You disabed the glow effect too, right? I assume you did that when you changed all the settings.
If you /fps and /toggleframerategraph (you have to do both to get the graph) the framerate is continusously low or is the graph very spikey?
No background processes running, like seti@home or folding@home?
hmm.

My fps issues seem to be resolved, things are back to the average performance I got on the 1.2.6 client.

turning full scene glow off does nothing to help the choppiness.
The framerate graph is VERY VERY spikey. And consistently so. It spikes off the top of my screen and then drops down to the very bottom again repeatedly and in rapid succesion.
No background processes running.
Note that it's just vendetta that this occurs with, I've tested several other high graphic demanding games and have had no problems.

fullscreen with vsync on?
I'm guessing at this point. I have no idea other than texture thrashing that would cause this.

fullscreen, but Vsync off. I tried it on and off as well and don't experience a difference in choppiness.
Did the spikes not go as high, though?
No noticeable difference in the spikes. If there is one, it's minimal. Turning off Vsync gives me a slight increase in where the FPS hovers around between the spikes of course, but the massive spikes shooting off my screen then back to the bottom remain the same.
Ghost, are you running a home network of any kind? Or are you directly connected to the cable modem/DSL box?
I had choppiness issues once (on another game, way before V-O) and it turned out to be my networking card vs. the OS on my ol' Blue & White G3 tower, which would lock everything up at regular intervals.
I guess that's another troubleshooting item: are the spikes random or do they occur at well-defined, regular intervals? The well-defined, regular interval would imply another running process on the machine.

I'm not on a home network and am positive that my connection is not the problem
The spikes occur at regular intervals. But I have checked the task bar as well as the task manager (through ctrl+alt+del) and can find no other programs running. I even have turned off my anti-virus software.

VRAM? Perhaps there's some memory swap-out thing that is happening? Shot in the dark, try defragging yer hard drive(s)? If there's not a contiguous chunk of hd space, perhaps going back & forth between the two is causing the little lagspike locally on your machine?
Since the problem is not being experienced by other Windows users, My gut reaction is to think it's something - some setting, some OS process - on your machine that interacts in a different way with the New V-O client. Since it didn't happen on the OLD client.

Try this as a last resort:
edit your config.ini and look for the shaders=1 string under the [directx9] section.
change it to 0 and see if that fixes the choppiness.
Otherwise, you can try switching to dx8 or opengl.

Done and done. No luck. I'm showing good FPS, like around 130 or so, but its the spikes that are killing me.
Guess i'll just have to get used to it. Thx for the help though.
