Yea the clicking lag in the interface is a problem.
Lasts for about 1.8 seconds.

Do you guys with the station lag have lots and lots of cargo in your Universe Inventory list?
Doing pretty much anything other than switching tabs in the station interface pretty much forces the entire station (and everything in all tabs) to recalculate its info. This may be slow if there's lots of stuff to calculate. I don't have much inventory, so I've never given much thought to the speed of the calculations.

err ..yup.
At least 2000+ items.
wow. ok. I'll try to optimize it.
heh, yea, ray, that could help then... I have a very full universe inventory.
Okay, I finally got those videos OKed, and did notice that I still have the same FPS issues in the newest version (although these videos are from the last)

In the first you can clearly see the FPS stall every time the mission computer updates, in the second, you'll notice that during the FPS drop, control of my ship's evasive roll must have also stalled, and when the rendering resumed I had taken some serious damage. Once that starts happening, the game is pretty much unplayable until you quit and reload the client, OR...
I just discovered recently that by CHANGING the game resolution, the FPS drop issues will go away only temporarily each time you change it. That doesn't mean chaning lower either - I was switching back and forth between 800x600 and 1024x768, and each time I made the switch, the framerfate would be fine at the new resolution and then slowly degrade until it was almost unplayable and I had to switch it back again.
Please fix this...

Well, I don't want to confuse the issue, but the comments from these people does not quite line up with my experiences with the new releases. I am using a Mac with
two 1Ghz processors (G4) running OSX 10.3.9. Previously, I had quite a few probs with systems containing "knuckle-bone" roids and certain stations that caused MAJOR FPS loss. With the new release, I can run VO at 1152X864 @75Hz and millions of colors, with all game settings one step below max (space junk OFF and
r-glow OFF) I have never experienced a reduction in FPS. Everything looks better,
and the game runs better than ever before. For me, that is. How strange is THAT?
Oh, and because I'm more than 18,000 feet from the Central Office, my DSL is a bit
less than optimal.....

Erm, this happens with new characters with an empty inventory as well, so I'm not entirely sure that it's just the inventory that's doing it.
In regards to general FPS issues, I gotta say, the new client has helped a lot--my framerate used to commit suicide every time I looked at even a single "bone" roid at medium texture settings on the old client. Going to "low" didn't help much and it made the game look not-so-good anyway. Now it doesn't, even at texture details that are equivalent to "high" on the old client. I get a tiny hit when looking at large stations but other than that, framerate's around 30-60 at all times now.

ok I dont know about anyone else, but I get some huge fps drop to 10 fps or less at times in some sectors simply by looking at the station. Doesnt make any sense to me.
Im on mac os x, pretty much state of the art imac g5 ati radeon x600 128mb video 1.5gb ram. What is it with stations that kill the fps??
It has always been like that btw, also in the old client.

Yeah, stations always kill it for me as well.
I've got well over 500 items stashed away in various stations, I wonder if my in-station lag is due to that?

Have you guys tried turning off virtual memory?
Sounds like VO is using a hard drive as RAM.

What do you mean by that? I have plenty of ram... 1.5GB and VO doesnt even use all of it, it could and maybe should though, thats why I bought it. So that the apps go and take it, since its FAST. :) nothing worse than HD as ram...VRAM, HD grind... sloooooooow. I guess I didnt understand what you asked?

If I turn off my pagefile, my OS commits seppuku after a couple hours... gotta love Windows and it's "missing RAM" (it's only USING 300MB or RAM, yet, there's between 30 and 40MB of Available RAM out of the 502 Total (shared Video mem sucks)). And there's an inexplicably oubiquitous pagefile of 300MB or more, VO or not (probably some system process that Windoes doesn't want to admit is running), and if you turn that pagefile off, your RAM runs down to 0 and the computer dies.
So... turning off virtual RAM is not an option for me.

I don't think you CAN turn off virtual memory in OS X, can you?
If you can, someone tell me how and I'll try that.

I have "only" 1.5G of RAM and am not having the probs described above anymore.
I have not heard the term "virtual memory" since I stopped using OS 9. Is it really
still around?? Or am I revealing my "non-techie" status??

Virtual Mem is pretty much mandatory on modern systems so far as I know... Windows XP will operate with a pagefile EVEN if you specify not to use one (you can turn it off in the control panel, but you can't turn it off in reality)
Are you sure about that Dihelical?
I saw mine under C:/Windows?.
Turned it off.
It disappeared.

Box, Windows XP?
Open task manager and click the performance tab to see your pagefile useage (which there is, even after turning it off)
though, if you can get it that far without crashing the computer or causing windows to auto-re-enable the 'official' PF, then you're better off than I...

A little more info to help define what's wrong:
Was doing BP last night, big battle, about 16 people in sector. My FPS was having trouble as always. Don't know why, plenty of Ram, almost brand new Radeon graphics card. So I turn my settings down again to rediculously low resolution as well as dropping my detail a few notches. I'm now getting over 500FPS when in a station sector. Soon as I jump into deneb C-10, it drops to around 50 at average and hovers between 30 and 90. With the equipment I have, this should not be happening. Help! It's near impossible for me to fight in big battles now even with the settings dropped to crap. =( Never had any of these problems pre-patch.

I really hope this gets fixed, and soon.
