We had one of these back in Alpha, and some really great ideas, and great artwork came out of it.
The RULES!:
1) Only original work, no plagerism
2) Ships should work in the Vendetta Universe (no aliens)
3) Ships may be any class (fighter, support, cargo, capital, etc)
4) Post as many designs as you want
5) You may post simple concept art, or upto full renderings, it is your decision.
6) Specs are recommended, but not required for submission
Post your designs (please post links to your work on other sites, as large images WILL slow this thread down)
Don't ridicule other people's designs, it may be a great idea, or prove to be the base of a great design.
Who knows, someone might design a ship the Dev's decide would fit in game.
--------------------------------------------------------------
If this thread picks up enough, we may institute a reward for the winner of the contest, and have some respected judges available.
DISCLAIMER:
-If you steal a design from another person without permission, you WILL BE DISQUALIFIED from consideration for any prize credits.
-If you post any inappropriate designs you will also be DQ'd

wait another month or so when i can use blender correctly
:)

So far, no "final" entry date has been decided. We want to give the most time possible for enterance of great models. The first one, several years ago lasted I believe 2 months, and even then, some argued it wasn't long enough.
We'll leave it open ended for now, and as more entries get submitted, we might use them as a benchmark for setting a final time frame. Im ballpark guessing at least 3 months from today.

bump!
Right, I'm bored so here it goes:
Assuming Itani and Serco get their own special cap ships like they got their own special one-man ships, here's an idea for the Serco version:
The Serco Pummeler
The main part of the ship would be like a queen but a bit wider, bigger, a bit heavier, and straighter (no arched bottom, slightly arched but still prom-style rugged serco style... that awesome scrap metal look we all know and love).
The front of the ship would have rowed spikes that are undeployed grapples.... you should be getting the image of a big electric hair shaver.
It would accelerate at other cap ships with shields of only slightly better quality than that of a queen and about 200,000 hull integrity (maybe a bit more). Once it hits the ship, the grapples deploy and it sticks, the mass of the pummeler adding to the mass of the cap ship (mass may be less than twice that of a queen). Now the fun part... Damaging lazers happen only in between the grapples and do the damage equal to the ship's shield regeneration rate, eliminating that factor of recharging, if the shields are down it does about 25,000 dps to the ship's hull.... But here's the catch: the lasers are too powerful for that small of the ship, so everything (including engines and shields) shut down while the lasers are active and are now very easy to pop like little mosquitos (with the right power). Since they can't bring down cap shields by themselves without atleast a gov bus helpin em, it was built with BS's in mind. Of course, I'm imagining, right now, 3 Itan friends flying in circles popping em like balloons, but in the heat of a BS, most likely the shields of the ship'd be down without recharging to regenerate the anti-frig gun blasts. Another good reason for this ship is that (perhaps it'd be slow) It would provide a little more interactivity for the one-man fighters while playing in a cap ship poy pond. I'll try to post some general sketches later. It doesn't have to be Serco, but I thought the Idea and style of the ship would be more fitting to the Serco idea of honor and all that stuff. (Cause it is most likely a kamikaze-type mission of a ship, just a bit more strategic).

I submit the center guy.
The Tunguska "Super Bear" was originally commissioned to move heavy freights through the dangerous backwaters of greyspace. The Super Bear boasts an impressive powerplant for performance above and beyond its weight class as well as a robust cargo hold and weapons systems. These aspects make it desirable not only to traders in need of extra security, but also to pirates looking for a way to steal away with larger takes and militaries in need of an economic warship.
Hardpoints include: 1 fwd rear, 1 lower forward, two side, 1 rearward rear. It also has a rearward hangar for servicing support ships and moving freight from onboard.
I may do orthographics for it (front side top etc.) later depending on if it seems necessary.

my first attempt...the TPG rapid deployment fighter/bomber
I would give this ship a few varients set up for different rolls.
for example...
2 small ports only, interceptor/light fighter
4 large ports, 1 small...bomber/heavy fighter
4 small ports, ! large...light bomber/fighter
etc...etc...

Ryan: I must admit, I like the swept/delta wing design, reminiscent of the old F-14 Tomcat (one of my favorite birds of all time).
Firebow: As I said on the other forum, love your designs. If you do decide to do more sketches, remember that you can submit more than just one design to the contest.
General Announcement:
Seeing how the contest is beginning to pickup, I'm going to post 8M cr. towards the final prize money at this time (will post more in the future), and if there are any volunteers to contribute, let me know. All donations appreciated.
Current Prize Money: 8M credits

TPG long range fighter
4 small ports
I dont know how easy it would be to do but the wings are designed as solar cells for a faster recharge rate...just an idea

quick question...the last time around there were some great submissions. is it allowable for the people who did them to enter them into this contest?
Ryan: Absolutely. The old submissions are permitted, and would be a good idea to have just incase people wanted to look for inspiration from them.
As for the eligibility of them in the contest, only your original work is eligible but if you have old submissions, you can add them in.

another question...can you submit someone elses work if you credit them for it? my friend Charlie wants to submit but has no internet so if I were to submit for him and say..."design by Charlie Anderson" would that be acceptable?
i suppose it would? but its not my contest.
You CAN enter another's work in the contest but the jury is still out on whether you would remain eligible for the contest prize.
At this point, I would say that you would NOT be eligible for the contest winnings unless you received specific permission from the original owner to enter their work for credit.
In the case of your friend Charlie, I'd say yes it's acceptable. And on top of that, it would be eligible for the prize money.

Okay, so Im a crappy artist, so there's no concept art, but here's the image:
The Serco "Albatross" Light Cruiser
-The latest generation of Serco capital-class, designed with the idea of bringing pain to enemy capital ships.
Imagine a large, tube-like ship with a single, center mounted elevated bridge about 3/4 of the way down the ship. The ship itself it between the Teradon and the HAC.
(If you have seen 5th Element, same general design as the human destroyers, but with more distinct a bridge, and more round)
This ship is designed to be big and strong, the front end is flat giving access to a single docking bay, 2 heavy "Teradon" class heavy batteries, and 4 Chaos Swarm tubes.
Spaced evenly along the port and starboard sides of this great vessel are 6 "Heavy Batteries" designed to broadside an enemy capital-class and drop her shields, eventually breaking her apart. The batteries alternate fire along the length of the ship, so that there is never a gap between shots.
For close in protection, the Albatross carries 6 Anti-Fighter Batteries, 2 on the Bridge Tower, 2 on the Topside Deck and 2 on the Under-side Hull.
The Albatross is designed by the Serco to act as a Task Force command ship, leading packs of fighters and support Tridents, into skirmish's that do not rate the need of a full military fleet.
The Albatross is also slow enough and heavily armed enough to act as a blockade enforcer, keeping ships away from enemy stations.
-------------
Serco F-174 "Griffen" Heavy Fighter
-Another new Serco hull, designed to combine the firepower of a Warthog Defender with an IBG's maneuverability. The result is an almost entirely new hull design.
Think of a slightly longer version of the Centurion with a sharper and long wing, and with two winglets at the cockpit area that slope down at 45 degrees.
The ship accels at combat operations, but has a very weak hull, meaning it is best designed for rapid ingress/egress "Hit & Fade" attacks against enemy fighter squadrons. It is poorly suited for long-term combat, and major fleet actions.

Several more ships and descriptions are in the works, I just need to get them finished before I post them.
Im also using a very slow process of creating images for these ships (it involves using AutoCAD LT (archetecture program) printing the AutoCAD image, then rescanning and posting the scan to a website).
Ships on the way:
TPG P-18 "Police Interceptor" Fighter
Orbital Battlestation
Corvus ST-38 "Wasp" Racer
Serco Corvette "Fury"
Serco Marine Landing Craft: "Storm"

------------------------------------
P-18 Fighter: As the war expanded, and combat forces were drawn to the frontlines, local Marshals required a new and advanced fighter to combat rising pirate aggression. The old, retired Vultures sent back from the frontlines were poorly suited for the job, so TPG introduced the P-18 "Police Interceptor". Rooted in the designs of the Centurion, Raptor and Warthog the P-18 is a startlingly well performing mixture of Speed, Maneuverability, and Power.
Orbital Battlestation: As the war expanded, and planets became ever increasingly important, both for resources and as strategic forward bases, it became nessicary to defend them, fighters and fleets eventually gave way to full-sized orbital battlestations bristling with awesome, fleet-killing firepower.
ST-38 Racer: As the Universe became more and more developed, it was inevitable that aspiring fighter pilots would find increasingly suicidal ways of performing. Corvus latched onto the idea of stellar racing, and introduced the ST-38 Racer to monopolize the motorheads of space, and dominate the track racing records.
Corvette "Fury": With the inevitable problem of more conflicts than ships to respond facing the Dominion Navy, SkyCommand introduced the first Corvette-class ship. Designed to respond quickly to hot-spots of enemy activity, the Corvette carries enough firepower and is able to support enough fighters to hold territory until a larger TASK FORCE can be dispatched to handle the whole issue.
SMC Landing Craft "Storm": All wars in the history of man have required boots on the ground to win. With this in mind, SkyCommand introduced the "Storm". Capable of transporting 60 Serco Marines (2 Platoons), 4 Tanks and crew, or 6 APCs and crew, the "Storm" is the workhorse of the SMC (Serco Marine Corps) air operations. Some models have been fitted with armaments to act as Close Air Support ships for SMC forces.

is this contest over because i'm computer generating some designs that i think you guys might like.
why does it sound over?
