Contest is still open. I'll make sure that when the contest closes, I make a very formal announcement of it's closure, but as of yet, there's still no date set for closing. We'll go until we get a large enough base of ship designs that I think we can really start narrowing it down to a winner.

And of course, even once the contest actually closes, people are more than welcome to continue submitting designs for fun. These designs may be eligible for a 3rd Annual DAS Contest sponsored by me, or if someone else wants to help kick on a 3rd DAS immediately to keep the juices flowing.

CONTEST REMAINS OPEN

Pyroman...since theres probably a lot of new players since the last design contest...could you post a link here to the last contest?
Apr 19, 2008 Croatoan link
do i post up the designs here or do i send it to someone?

Ryan: Unfortunately, the last DAS Contest was too long ago to be recoverable on the forums. If there's archives I am not aware of from 02-03 then perhaps it's recoverable.

Croatoan: It's safe to post them here, but you should use a PhotoBucket account or other photo-sharing website to upload your images too, then post the links here.

Pyroman_Ace - Proving yet again that anyone in SDF is incompetent by definition.

Edit:
Notice how kind I was in not even mentioning the other "design a wreck" contests that "happened" since then?
Yeah. I'm a nice guy like that.

most of the designs are gone from that link but of whats still up...there were some GREAT designs!!!

Retsmah, teh1ghool, LordofBlades and ESPECIALLY nioubi!!! are these guys still around? I dont recognise the names but I dont get ingame as much as I'd like to.

anyways, good work this time round to all of you who have submitted ship designs! keep it up.

oh and I will soon be posting a few ideas for some larger ships. frigates I suppose...(or if the Devs dont plan on doing PC frigates, than I geuss they could be cappies too)

Genka: I was referring to the 1st competition. You'll notice all your links are versions of second contests (you note even the SDF one notes that there was "another").
There was at one point, months before the SDF one, an official "Design A Ship" contest players put on. It's been lost to the ages though.
So...not really incompetent am I? =P
(EDIT!): Genka: Do you still have "tubby.jpg" on your desktop? (just as a joke)

Ryan: Most of those guys were old time pilots from Alpha and Beta. A lot of them retired before or shortly after Release of the game when we all had to start paying. A lot were either too young, too poor, or were dissatisfied that they had to pay since they'd helped to test the game. Still others retired just over the years as they came to like other games.

Sooo, your response is an attempt to rebrand the word "last" to mean "first" instead of "most recent," edited to try and save face with claims of having had a hot girlfriend and a vague jab at trying to creep me out with amusingly named files that you saw in my screenshot of my desktop?

It's amazing how some people manage to stay a preteen for four years running.

PS: Hi.

Genka: Okay, lets just drop the sarcasm and let this whole thing go. I don't want this thread to end up locked because you and I start arguing.
Good work on finding those old threads, but I have to tell you, the original DAS contest occurred before even the latest thread you've found. That one had embedded images and as I recall, some were spectacular craft.

Well, at least we agree on one thing, I sure as hell don't want this thread to die either.

seems like it has already died...oh well, I throw something together tonight at work.

TPG proudly presents the last word in space based warfare. yes this light fighter packs a little something extra...

one 800 megaton xithracite plated plasma torpedo! with a splash radious of 3000 meters.

tpg is not responsible for misuse of this weapon or craft. tpg cannot be held responsible for damage to ships caught with in the blast radious, nor damage suffered by the pilot of this ship.

Although I deign to do this with the genkatroll looking I will do this anyway. I created a post on suggestions regarding shiptypes as well as other changes that have been mentioned over the ages at this thread here http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/18683#233337.

Carrier Class.
This class compromises the elite and most powerful platforms of destruction that would be possible within the game. They would be able to accomedate large numbers of ship hulls as per the suggestion made about carrying ships, as well as a large amount of materials and ordinance to support the deployment of the ships being carried. I envisage that there would be a limit to the number of these created by the sheer amount of resources that would be involved in creating such an impressive machine.

The Carrier would be the core of any guilds attempt at territorial domination and as such would require immense material manufacture. Although this leviathan would be an integral part of any guilds attempts to control the territories it would not be the only requirment.

After some discussion with a couple of people I would agree and think that the carrier class ship would be beneficial to assign to the Serco with relation to the storyline and comments made considering the fact that due to the Serco military mindset as well as the fact the Itani are more advanced in ship-building it would be countered with the following ship design.

Dreadnaught
This would be the Itani comparison to the Carrier class.
Due to the Itani's more advanced tech regarding ships as well as weaponry these ships would for balance be more expensive therefore meaning less being built BUT they would also be much more powerful.

I could see these ships with new ingame armaments similar to the ones described in the 7 minute war section of the back story. *NOTE* I am in no way suggesting that these ships are the goliath cannon but just comparing their possible damage potential.

Destroyer Class.
This capital class ship would be used in the defense of stations under each factions control and would be similar to a Carrier in the sense that it could hold the components to create ships as needed but at a very reduced rate. An example would be Serco carrier holds 20 skyproms while the Serco destroyer holds 3-5. The Itani would hold valks or a comparable complement to the skyproms and in similar numbers.

The destroyer would be deployed in situations where a Carrier was coming under fire and the resources of the sector be it ships or ordinance was in need of a boost.
Destroyers would be beneficial in groups of 2-3 and considering the fact this game has potential for a massive influx of players once our devs would be released I could see fleets of these in the future.

Interceptor Class
This class would be a class of mobile HAC that would be able to approach a sector at speed and begin to assert control as the destroyers and the carrier are enroute. I am unsure if this would be considered a frigate or what but it would be a very potent weapons delivery system and would enable suppression of enemies in territorial situations.

If this class were designated as a frigate I think a variant with cloaking would be interesting in the sense that there would be a way to infiltrate ships to certain points while allowing the delivery of a potent weapons loadout at the same time.

All the above ships would have to be very balanced and have a way of easy destruction in certain situations and I realise once our game grows it would be imperative to have control over such possible large fleets I would suggest this.

This is my contribution to the DAS as well as seeking some input from others who may have missed the original thread.

Dear ryan lol they already have that weapon in 2 forms. The Avalon or the sector killing Devalon but for reasons best left out they were removed and I hope to see the reintroduction of the Avalon once the AI is able to engage properly.
