Double Elim = "lose twice and you're out"

In a pure double elim, the ultimate winner is determined as Nerde said.

From that link Softy, Cunjo is doing everything roughly the same, except for the fact that when you lose in the first bracket, you should basically only drop into the same round in the second bracket. Cunjo has just been filling up the first round of the second bracket regardless of where the person made it to in the first. He should have been only filling up one half of each of the first round/second bracket matchups, so that whoever advanced from there would then meet the loser of the second round/first bracker matchups!

Ok so that's ugly. But it gets my point across I guess.

Edit: Nope, nm, its ugly

It still makes sense, though, Gavan.

... so yes, Cunjo did it wrong, but it's a bit too late now to change it.
Jun 15, 2006 Gavan link
Oh yeah, sorry.... I wasn't meaning that it didn't work. I was just trying to clarify things for softy.... then I got a little carried away with the text drawing :)
Jun 15, 2006 Cunjo link
Yes, I am aware of how a traditional double elimination works, and I am aware that this tournament uses a nonstandard and simplified version of the bracket - it was intended. I thought I clarified that rather explicitly early on, since a 'correct' double elim would have become nothing but an immense pain in the ass considering the iregular number of entrants in each class as well as the drop-out rate of said entrants due to difficulties in scheduling game-time.

If people want to add a two-set final match between the winner of the first and second elimination brackets, then I'll add it, but the initial idea was to modify it so that to earn the title, someone would be undefeated in the first bracket, and defeated only once for Second place.

If people want it changed so the first and second bracket winners meet up again in the final match, then we'll change it.

I think they should meet at the end and fight for the title. Think about it. The undefeated pilot should be able to beat the defeated player, if they are that good.PLus, it also eliminates the chance that somehow they did not meet in the first bracket.

Hey Cunjo, you slimy dog, this is pretty freakin' amazing work here. But I agree with the earlier sentiments about the 1-loss bracker champion duking it out with the undefeated champion. Got to have room for dramatic comebacks!!!! woot!!!!

O.. and say hi to my dearest Cho if you see her in game will ya? Thanks ;)

Hey Cunjo, this thing still happening? Let's finish this one proper-like.
Jul 08, 2006 Ghost link
Aye, don't let it die out!
Jul 09, 2006 Cunjo link
Sorry for the absense... I'll try to get this tournament finished up, as long as people manage to show for their matches. I might not be able to update as regularily as before though, unfortunately, so I guess you'll need to take some initiative and keep track of where it's at to get those matches in.

I want my money back.
Jul 09, 2006 lucifex link
Haha, you're not escaping that easily Gav
Jul 10, 2006 Gavan link
I don't want to escape, I'd love to finish it. But at this rate it's going to be done sometime next year.
Jul 10, 2006 Cunjo link
I have tomorrow off, so I can get the ball rolling again and throw some more knocks... hopefully we can get Light and Superheavy finished this week.

Shape:

I'd like to. But I haven't seen Calder on at all recently.
Jul 11, 2006 fooz2916 link
Whoa, totally forgot about this and didn't see Euphoric's post.

Unfortunately, I'm going to be out of town for the next week. If it's urgent that the Super-Heavy gets finished, I'll withdraw if you refund my entry fee.

However, I may be available today for a few hours or more after 1800 GMT. Send a message over AIM or G-Talk (same name).
