Well, that settles it. We definitely need two or three variants of TGFT Radio, with different music formats.
Get on that, would ya, Screwball? :D

Heh, yeah, I'm noticing that some people want energetic rock/metal/industrial music, while others like ambient background music, while others enjoy music with some sort of theme (words) related to space. And then there's the race music, war music, etc for events.
I'm already paying as much as I'm willing to pay out of my own pocket for the one Radio TGFT channel, and I'm not going to accept donations because that would cause all sorts of problems. That leaves several options:
1) Maintain an eclectic format where nobody likes 100% of the songs, but they might like most of them.
2) Focus on one or two styles and let someone else create a new station to broadcast the others.
3) Schedule regular "programs" on Radio TGFT, where each program is a different style. (fight music on weeknights, dance music on weekend nights, disco night, etc.)
4) Change formats to high energy / race oriented only during special events such as Nation War, The Deneb Run, and the Corporate Sectors Race.
Of these, I think some combination of 3 and 4 makes sense. The challenge there is that I can only store about 9 hours worth of content on server for pre-recorded programs, so things might get kinda repeatitive (if it isn't already). A workaround is to permanently broadcast in Live mode, but that would require me to dedicate a computer to it.
One interesting new development is that someone is volunteering to do a weekly news show featuring RP news from the game. I hope that pans out, cause it sounds kick ass to me.

Yes, that would be awesome - a weekly news show! :) (.. don't tell me it's ctishman...)
I was joking when I said we'd need to have variants, and I don't want you to shell out a buncha money, Screw.
I think maintain a specific style of program that intersperses the styles, or set up a schedule (a la college radio station) where the programming changes every 4 hours or so.
Anyway, you and TGFT are providing a valuable service to the VO community, and remember I need those two ad spots. Lemme know how much and how long I get to run 'em for.

I have got to ask for MORTAL COMBAT after ny battle with the Baron!!
Utah Saints version if possible.
Utah Saints version if possible.
I changed the name to "*Radio TGFT" so it stays on top!
Great job, Screwball and, I agree with you. A mix of 3 and 4 would, most likely, be best received and probably easiest for you to manage.

What kind of computer would you be looking at needing? I have some p2's and I think an ~800mhz p3(if I can find it) thats soon to be target practice next time I get to the shooting range.

For those interested in advertising on Radio TGFT, here's the deal:
Real ads are triggered automatically by live365.com approximately once per 3 songs. I can program the system to play a random station ID / PSA announcement either before or after the live365 ad (I chose after). There are 5 slots available for ID/PSA tracks, which I use for the role-playing ads. Thus, on average, a given ad will air once every 15 songs, or approximately once an hour. Technically, I think I can also insert the ID/PSA tracks into the playlist, but that means they will come up only once in every 6+ hours (the current length of the playlist.)
The ads themselves are uploaded as MP3Pro files at 64kb stereo encoding, but can be transcoded from higher MP3 bitrates by the upload utility. I can probably convert to MP3 from WAV, AIFF, or possibly other standard audio formats using iTunes. The length of an ad cannot be more than 60 seconds (live365 policy). Also, don't include any copyrighted material (music, outtakes) in the ads because it's not covered by my broadcast plan (I checked) and I don't want to get sued.
In terms of actually selling ads, here's the price:
Customers can buy hourly ad slots in one-week blocks. Up to 4 slots per week are for sale, though I prefer to not have any one customer monopolize the ads, and the 5th slot is reserved for TGFT. The price is 500,000 credits per block per week, because if I can sell 4 ads a week then it exactly pays for TGFT's weekly sponsorship of The Deneb Run. However, I'll give a 25% discount if you buy a 4 week block.
It is up to the customer to supply the audio file for their ad.
If there are a lot of people interested in advertising on Radio TGFT, then I might also offer the playlist-based ads at a lower price, due to the lower frequency of being aired.
I'm also willing to consider running ads in return for other sorts of in-game compensation (favors), if it makes sense.
At the moment, ST6 and ITAN have both expressed an interest in advertising and I'm waiting for them to send me audio files. There are also a couple of guilds out there who I have offered complimentary ads to as a way of saying thanks for past and ongoing help.

I think the Makchuga will be putting one together; Erik, Joyce and I just need to hash out how we're going to deal with doing the voice acting. I'll probably end up recruiting friends from school as I'm the one with the recording equipment >_>
wow !
damn, now i really do need to get duplex sound working in linux.
thx screwball
nm, had to use ALSA. could not change it in game as it just crashed. had to edit ~./vendetta/config.ini manually

screwball any reason your using live 365 rather than shoutcast?
I should have my audio files in some time tonight. Shoot me a bill via e-mail and I'll make sure you get the money.
McDuff: I imagine it's for the simplicity and low cost. Shoutcast is free, yes, but you need somewhere to host it with enough bandwidth for multiple connections. So in the end, it might cost more than the basic live365 package if he had to pay for a hosting account that can handle streaming.
'Hot Rod Lincoln' for the deneb run...
Can live365 announce the time periodically in GMT? If so, anouncements of regularly occuring events might be good for the mix.
ahh ok green geeik i see what your saying if i can get you something to hoast it from do you have enough bandwith screwball?
Actually, bandwidth was only half the reason I went with a hosting provider. The other reason is that I don't want to get my ass sued into oblivion by the RIAA. Live365 deals with all the legal headaches of paying royalties to all the different organizations that represent the artists, recording companies, etc. Assuming I wanted to do all that paperwork myself, it's actually MORE expensive, because the licenses I would need as an individual broadcaster actually cost more than the annual hosting fee I pay now (even at the small broadcaster license discount), and then I'd still need to pay for bandwidth on top of that.
As for broadcasting the time in GMT, I don't think Live365 has that option. As for Hot Rod Lincoln, I can't pre-announce specific tracks that I will play (thank you DMCA) but there is a track by Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen that I use during the Deneb Run.
