...if someone can get to combat 10 in one day.

Just wanted to let ya know, everyone. Players, guides, and devs alike.
The Border Patrol mission, just sorta turned post release Vendetta Online back to what it was in alpha as I have heard. Just a deathmatch and every thing is like free. Minus the avalons.

I've heard rumors of a reset yesterday. I don't quite know if it was a cruel joke or what. I certainly hope it's not planned. I just switched nations again and started all over with my one and only character. I don't know what this easy way of leveling up is, but I've been botting my way up legitimately nonstop for like three days now. I'd really hate to lose all of that just because of this. So here's to hoping that it's just a false rumor and that the whatever the easy leveling trick is will be resolved soon...

I haven't heard of anyone getting to combat 10 in one day, at least not starting from 0. I went from combat 9 to 10 on the BP mission, but it took at least an hour or two of doing BP to do that.

I like that the BP mission is finally worth doing, but I do think its rewards (both XP & credits) are a bit too high. Over in the BP mission suggestions thread I suggested making it similar to the beginner combat mission, with the rewards starting out lower, and getting higher as the mission progresses (which of course would mean that the mission would have to progress, rather than just ending, but that's something else I'd love to see, too).

I don't think there's likely to be a reset, and I certainly hope not.

We / They DO care, though it was hard to penetrate your hour+ in-game rant in order to impress that upon you. I suggested that you make a lucid post on the forums.

As alk0n said:

"...I figure it's slightly too much, but it gets people to try the border wars out.

I still need to fix the potential powerleveling issues with this."

Yes, it's a bit much - though I would point out that Deneb was hopping and pilots were grouping. It was beautiful. I'll gladly do that mission after the numbers are fixed. It's nice to have a mission where we truly are at war.

A full reset is obviously a very severe move now that we're Pay to Play. I doubt it would ever happen.

Alright, this is my first post, so don't tear me to shreds. (please!)

I do not know of anybody getting to 10 in one day, I, however spent 2 full days doing straight bp missions and nothing else, I acheived level 10, but had to work hard for it. I am on summer vacation, so I have all the time I want, practically. I spent 2 full days only leveling up a 1/1/1/1/1 character to levels 10/10/10/2/1, while gaining 8.5 million credits. I understand that manny players did even better than me. I do believe that the credit gaining system needs to be tuned down a little bit, I will never have to work again at this rate. I KNOW that I got a lot in 2 days, but I actually worked for it, and I DO admit that the money is WAY too much.

Anyway, I wanted to say that the people who acheived level 10 from level 0 or 1, worked hard. I know I did...

/me needs to work on trading now though....

Personally, I really don't want a reset 'cause after all the work I put into these charecters, I am not willing to rebuild what I have put so much time into, and i'm sure i speak for more than myself.

euhm i did 8 days over levels 0 - 9 and your telling me that you worked hard? And this was with 16hours+ every day...

Now i feel kinda bummed for doing it the old fasshioned way. Not to mention the easyness it createss for alterchars... uck.

Hey, can't we just create 1 guild for 1 account thingy :D?

It did provide a way to make a serco alt to my usuall Itani blueness, that helped, but hey, nobody is hurt, right? um, right?

/me looks around to see if anybody is indeed hurt

Rene, that means we'll just make 9 free accounts to form a guild. :)

Having high levels doesn't make you good. I know, I had my husband set my XP levels high so I could a) play with the players and not give them the XP penalty for killing a low player and b)try out all the weapons and ships. I use only the "best" equipment and even then I still die in giant fireballs 19 times out of 20. I haven't mastered how to properly fly and fight in my ship beyond level 3-4 combat and it shows. This game involves twitch combat so the levels just give you access to stuff, it doesn't ensure uberness.

Like Renegade, I feel a little put-off that someone doing BP can get more levels and a lot richer in two days than those of us who've been playing since like November. Of course, we can now go do BP and level up fast, but again, one must wonder "so all my previous work, for nothing"?

I do hope this gets fixed fast, though I'll enjoy blasting "Combat 10" noobs whenever I see them. I know pretty much everybody in my time slot, so I should be able to identify these BP uber-noobs easily...

I'd just like to point out, that as VincentV says, no one is hurt by this. Yes, it is something that allows players just starting to gain combat XP faster than anything that has been available before, but really, that does not hurt any of us who have been playing longer, it just makes it easier for the newer players. So what? That does not hurt me. On the other hand (like FM said), I have had a lot of fun doing the BP mission, mainly because of all the other players participating, and the excellent rewards of the mission is a large part of the reason more players have started doing it.

But, if you all do think that it is a problem, say why you think so ("because I didn't get it when I was a n00b" is not a valid reason), and suggest a solution. I made the suggestion I mentioned above in this thread because I think it would make the mission better. Do the rest of you think that suggestion would help? Would it help enough? Should there be a level requirement in order to take the BP mission? I think there is one right now, combat 4 IIRC, but I could be wrong, and even if I'm right, should it be higher than combat 4?

[edit]
It's kinda funny, combat XP has for a long time been the hardest XP to gain, and I & the rest of you have all been begging for stuff to make it faster, and more fun, than the "botting treadmill" was. Now we have it, we shouldn't complain.

BP is easy, when theres only bots involved, when both sides have players actively BPing? its damn hard to even get 1 kill, players are not bots, they run away, they spam missiles, heck, some of them even /explode, all of which which make for some fun *group* battles (something this game has been crying out for since CtC died down like it did) and even for some keyboard breaking frustration.

I agree the monetary rewards are a little bit too high right now, and the bots need some work to make the botting side of it a little harder (maybe give a few bots rocket rags, ect, heh), and even the xp reward can get a little bit silly in a big group, but it is encouraging people to do the mission.

Personally I went from level 9 to 11 in three solid days of BP (im online LOTS) and I have more money now than I have had since the game was released =D
Jun 20, 2005 DragonEmpire link
I too agree that the xp bonuses may be too high, yesturday with just a couple hours I got one of my alts from 4/5/3 to 7/8/7, witch would have taken days to bot up.

My main character is probably one of or the highest leveled character in the game, (but as others have said before, levels arn't everything, it's the skill that matters.) And I worked my butt off to get him to where he is now. Now that the BP has come along, it's just like jexkerome said, "all of my previous work, for nothing?"
Jun 20, 2005 Renegade ++RIP++ link
I don't mind newbies getting high levels. I don't mind it at all.

I don't mind him getting level x in 2 days, it was just that i didn't like him saying it was hard work... since compared to any of us that do/did it the old way, it sure as hell isn't 'work'. but i probably didn't notice the irony in his statement, i have ahebit of not noticing that stuff. Not to mention hte potential of creating habitual ass characters (if that is even proper english).

Anyway SA,

first of all that is agaisnt the EULA, which would be liable to an account clausure. Second of all, i stole the idea of GW where it is kinda a way to make sure we don't get interlopers, although people can alwyas circumvent that by getting a second account (but hey more money for your pocket right :D). But it would also be able to help create a more gvg oriented gameplay if ever needed. And i read somewhere that that was the ultimate idea, or am I wrong?

cheers

The BP mission XP reward is good, maybe just a tiny bit high, if you are facing players.. (the cash is WAY high, cut it in half)

the problem however is that the BP can be done against bots.
Is there any way for the mission to determine if a kill was against a bot or against a player?
If so why not make the XP reward based not only on how many you kill, but what you kill as well?
PK's could be valued at say +225xp each (thats 25 less than kills are set at now btw)
Bots could only be worth say... 75Xp each

this way you get only 1/3rd the XP if you do the mission completely against bots, making the leveling more akin to what you get on a regular botting mission, but it would be quite rewarding for PvP.

Incidentally the idea that its unfair because its now so much faster to gain levels of XP is just overdone.

I had managed to get +600 reputation with ALL the factions except itani before they added the trade guild missions. It took me about 2 months of doing nothing but trading, probably about 20 hours a week. when the trade guild came out, people could do it in less than three 8 hour days(it can be done even faster with the moth). That was a far more rediculous change in rate of gain than the botting XP.

The crazy BP experience point awards ARE a bit too much. I say put them down to +200 / +200 / +200 per kill, that is still nice XP but not overly so. Better than the combat missions. Still good enough to group up and go get'em.

I had been trying off and on in my laziness to get combat 9, I was about 20,000 xp away from it, and with the new BP mission I got it in about 2 hours, using a swarm Rag, barely even trying. Stukov was in my group and now he has higher levels than me, hehe, and I've been playing since Christmas 2004. It only irks me slightly, I know it irks others FAR more, but I know that levels and duel rating are poor indicators of skill.

Anyway, yes, the BP mission DOES seem to allow easy leveling. Those who take advantage of it are kind of "cutting in line" in front of more experienced players. I can recall being ASTOUNDED at Dragon's Levels, something like 14/18/17/12/10, but now it seems anyone who wants to gain those levels need do nothing but take border patrol missions for a week.

However, there is nothing preventing the more experienced players from taking the Border Patrol missions, either. They can benefit just like everyone else does.

Ooh, I just read yoda's post: a) YES you HAVE been online lots recently. and b) YEAH! Give the bots Swarm Rags! Give them SCP's and Trineut Valks! Cent Mk 2's are just silly. Make us WORK for OUR KILLS!

In fact, I think I will head to Deneb and do some more BP, if only to make the job of the Serco harder. (Or more easier, depending on your perspective. hehe)

It took a long time to bot MB up to combat 11 (no crack botting either :P .) Now, people are making combat 12 from 8 or 9 in accumulated hours (not days) of playing BP. The rewards are huge! I was in a group with one of my alts making 5250/5250/5250/0/0 and 275,000 credits for about 16 kills. And those bots may hurt and move a lot, but they are still easy to kill. In about an hour, my char went from 4/4/4/4/0 to 6/6/6/4/0.

Finally, we have group missions! That every player may join if they so choose. But the rewards cause everyone to play BP and it's practically the only thing to do as multiplayer right now. Of course, it's a new update so everybody wants to check it out. But as long as those rewards stay the same. It's the only thing that the players are going to do. I'm not saying it's not fun, it's just not well rounded.

I know with some of the higher level players such as Anevitte, Dragon of Fire, Sputnik, and Intimidator (that's who i can think of off the top of my head,) it was impressive to see the levels so high. And from a noob's perspective, it might mean more to be mentored by someone who they know has played the game for a long time, has lots of badges and high levels. There is no other way to gage skill when just starting out. But now, it just doesn't mean as much. With lots of people nearing combat 12 from BP and still have less than 2000 total kills instead of the 7 or 8 thousand that would take to get to combat 11 or 12 from botting. There is no point to getting the high levels in twitch based fighting, but from the RP perspective, it still has meaning.

I don't want to make suggestions here, but with the rewards the way they are from BP, maybe we should have a lot more badges that are more difficult to get. To balance out the "Impressive" stats. Otherwise, why have stats?

why have stats?

Finally! Someone's catching on!

I haven't had the chance to check out the BP missions yet, so I can't really add much to the discussion, but if it's true that people are gaining that kind of xp then a reset may be in order. I also think the xp rewards from the bulk trade guild missions should be looked at since we now have a ship that can do them in 1 run.

If there is a reset, I would also ask that we have storyline missions before it happens, so we can all experience them from level 0.

jealous guys

really i do not care if people could get licence 9 in 2 days (with around 16 hours of play).

that game is not based the XP licence to play.
it's not like the other MMORPG (3 months of play time to reach level 50... all based on the character level... so boring)

it's only pilote & weapons licences
you wil have to work your other factions standing + trade + mining. so don't worrie. you will have a lot of work to finish the leveling.

i could level to licence 9 (pilot & weapons) in 3 days in the past.

really it doesnt matter if people could level fast.
it's attractive and fun.

are you scared to fight newbies in licence 9 ship?
oh dears...

PS : it's true that moneys rewards is a lit much. cut it 1/2.
About the xp rewards : you could decrease the group rewards %. but alone 350/350/350 is correct (not much than the advanced combat mission. btw i doubt the rewards in advanced combat mission work like BP in group).
Jun 20, 2005 DragonEmpire link
oh please, DON'T reset :(!! I worked my butt off getting my "Dragon of Fire" character that high and all the stuff that he has! (oh and Leber it's 13/17/18/15/10 btw)
