The reality is, it WILL be shared come hell or high water through plugins so might as well build it into the interface for trident pilots. Something akin to targetBinds.
Are these those plugins that don't exist that you feel exist again?
TargetBinds exists.
Yeah, but you can do everything that targetbinds does without plugins. just do /alias tbs "say_guild '%target% is a dick in a ship' " or whatever. Ok, maybe not everything, but the best parts.
It does not share scanner info.
It does not share scanner info.
Oh. I have a version that does. Roid data, ship/shield, local faction etc.
All that info can be got without plugins or scanners.
This thread is about scanners.

Do you have any plugins that share a targets loadout? Do you have any plugins that can share a targets cargoes? Answer is simply no. Apart from a storm extender, scanner info should NOT be shared, Biggest reason is simply because it will take more dev time than it is worth. And if someone can share this info via a plugin, more power to them.

Sharing the scanner data is important to groups activities. And it does share cargo data actually.
Let it die or no, tridents have all the sensors they need.
3) Pirate dents will be bale to scan target cargos
We have Hounds for this - which brings up an excellent point. If you guys just can't be happy with integrated radar extension and group sharing, you're just going to have to kick a few of those XCs outta yer holds to make room for some support ships carrying the sensors you want.
The trident was never intended to be the uber-ship of VO, and already is way too much. If you want more abilities, work with other ships...shocking, I know, to think that a massive, ovepowered floating base with free repairs and reloads might possibly have a use (much less a need) for support ships.

If you give the trident all sensors that have been suggested, then where's the tradeoff? How do you propose to balance the trident after giving it what you want?
Some of us would like to push the game play to places it has not yet been.
I'd be happy to: give the Hound integrated 5000m storm radar extender/group sharing, and 2000m cargo and addon scanners...because it would make it better and open new tactics! Oh, and don't change anything about the Hound other than buffing the shit out of its sensors, btw. Maybe you could give the CWM a power-drain effect while you're at it -- I promise that will push the game to places it hasn't been yet.
No? That wouldn't be properly balanced? Huh.

I would like to further clarify my question about balance. I do not believe that trident's should be balanced against smaller ships, but there still needs to be a balance. For instance, if you give the trident all of these things, what is going to set it apart from Constellations when they become available? What would set the trident M apart from the other trident variants?
Lecter is on ignore until he presents some valid points.

The requisite of a tradeoff implies Tridents are perfectly balanced. They are not. The proposal doesn't need a tradeoff.
Connies and other Trident variants have a plethora of other areas where they can differentiate even if Trident M has all the basic scanners.

Now that I have a Trident I can add my 2c. The L-port on the front is a bit of a joke, the only defensive weapon worth putting on there is the TU mine. Trying to turn on a target is like trying to parallel park an 18 wheeler. Giving a trident more awareness about what is going on around it is not and will never be OP. Besides, you still have to target the hip to see what its got.
