+1 to built in scanners
+1 To more, and more powerful scanners. Lets put that reactor to use.

It's a glorified cargo barge, not the fucking USS Enterprise.

+1 to more sensors & more ports for more guns
A cargo barge in space would have more sensors. for mining, and defensive purposes (what kind of weapons the enemy has, so the pilot can make informed decisions to run or stay).
+1 to scanners
and +1 to 2 small ports anyway!

There is no point to giving it mining scanners until the things are actually useful to mine with. The only sensor upgrades I would give a trident at this point would be an extended sector view as well as storm / fog scanners which should be automatically shared with the owner if undocked as well as anyone grouped with the owner.
It's not inconceivable that someone with a trident assists another in a mining operation, in which case a mining scanner would be of potential use.
Only if it can scan at a ridiculously large range. I have mined enough using my trident to know that the current best use of the trident is storage. Give owners a decent mining beam to put in the large port as was requested ages ago and that changes. However, I've seen no indication that that is something Incarnate is considering.
I have a problem expanding the scanning ore scanning range because it would imo make collecting ore data for a given sector entirely too easy- particularly guilds hosting tridents. That is the one butterfly project in the game that I do like. When I was collecting such data myself, I rather enjoyed the hunt for those last few asteroids that I'd missed.
What Incarnate has said is that the envisioned purpose of the trident does not yet exist in the game yet. IMO tridents already add a huge amount of efficiency to both mining, farming and hauling and in a mostly safe context. I'm just not convinced that improving the ships utility in this way wouldn't undermine the intended level of work intended for mining and asteroid data collection in the same way it has for sss or noodle farming- not to mention the incredibly rapid rate at which players can raise their bot kill / large port & combat by parking at the hive entrance to a dynamic queen sector and dropping lmines.

There is so many things wrong with the Trident Light Frigate that scanners are just a drop in the ocean of all the things that need fixing/upgrading.
And EP is right, atm trident is a glorified cargo barge and nothing more.
As a military class vessel trident should have:
1. more frontal assault weapons ports or if not ports, then fixed trident cannon (a smaller variant of terradon frontal gun)
2. better turret placement (damn aft blind spot)
3. armory - for storing ammo and interchangeable weapons for onboard fighters
4. hangar not limited by cargo space but by the number of ships that can dock - max 4 ships
5. fixed cargo space of 300cu
6. trident sensor array - add-ons & cargo with a 3k range, long range detection sensors (be able to lock on ships up to 15k), enhanced storm extender & mineral scanner
7. shields should be equal to NPC tridents
8. increased cruise speed to 50 m/s and increased turbo speed to 150 m/s
9. no interchangeable power cell slot, tridents have reactors

Hoban, a frigate is, by definition, a fast recon & skirmish military gunship - it does not need a huge cargo hold, it's not a freighter.
If you want to use it as a freighter you have 300cu fixed cargo space + you can put 4 xcs in the hangar. It would work for traders too.
Instead of frontal L & S port weapons slots I would prefer a frontal trident class assault gun.

Calling me EP might just be the first support-ticket-worthy insult I've seen on here :P
And lol @ the lowly trident needing to become the be-all, end-all of VO capital ships.

@Lecter
Don't feel like editing my post because of a missed name (EP, Lecter, who cares), fire away the support-ticket.
As for becoming the be-all, end-all.... Trident Light Frigate is atm pretty much worthless. Turning it into a real gunship will not turn it into USS Enterprise.
It will still be deshielded by a single rag or 3 light fighters with energy guns.
Front cannon is only of some value against other tridents & capital class ships and turret weapons we have still suck badly and do not present real danger to any competent light fighter pilot.

Except for their unique abilities to transport enormous amounts of cargo in complete safety, and repair/reload anything for free, yeah, they're just totally worthless.

-1 to additional sensor changes to Tridents, at least unless/until the sector list changes happen. While it certainly makes sense for them to have all of the sensors (they're trivially tiny and inexpensive compared to a Trident), realism sometimes must lose out to gameplay.
+1 to UDV-like sensors on tridents
Or make it that if you have a UDV loaded, your dent uses its sensors.

There's a post somewhere by Incarnate, much like Lecter, where he calls the Trident little more than an underpowered freighter. If this is the case, the name "Light Frigate" is a misnomer.

Heavy storm radar, group extender, add-on scanner, cargo scanner, roid scanner, command centre, all in a nice touch interface :) plus all that stuff with more range. What did I make this master computer/optical sensor for again? Tridents are as smart as EC89s.
A trident class mineral scanner doing slow swaths over a roid field with wire mesh overlays and roid data would be pretty sweet. File that under wishful thinking but a miner can dream.
Should be launched in tandem with trident class mining beams!

The thing is that once you build a trident you know where to find all the ore you need so the mineral scanner is not that big a cookie. The UDV already has the entire scanner suite so whats the fuss about "realism over gameplay"? Seriously, if that were an issue we'd see posts calling for less scanners on the UDV. I'm all for the trident having a separate cargo hold and dock but 300cu is not enough when the XC which is like 10 times smaller has 200cu. As for the lack of weapons, adding another large port would make the trident able to take another trident on and kill it, although I think it would be cooler to have flank mounted batteries, 2 L-ports on each side.

I'd settle for an increase in radar range, say 7500m. That would make its integrated group radar more useful in support roles.
