Eh maybe not for now but I don't think having the game priced at one dollar a month will turn that many more people on, IMO a larger amount of people playing would make it so much more worthwhile to pick up a 10 dollar sub, it would make itself worth it financially in the long run I reckon.

I don't know how much processing power/bandwidth it costs but I doubt making the game free to play would end up costing very much to the devs and it would make itself worthwhile by fixing one of vo's largest problems that is a low player count.

I was at first very opposed to the idea of free2play but I'm pretty sure it'll become the only viable model in the longer run, I don't like the idea of microtransactions though and not only that they'd be much harder to implement in a way that's not only worthwile for whoever's paying but also not gamebreaking.

The lite sub could also be a one time payment permanently giving your account access to stuff that's <3/3/3/0/0 this would limit people making accs just to run a bunch of bots for whatever reason.

*Edit I do realise this thread was for comment on the current lite sub implementation I just wanted to throw in my 2c on what I think could improve it.

Came here to find out what the Android subscription really meant, since I couldn't find the caveat of limitations on the Google Play store page.

Just to bring an idea forward from a different thread....

Limit to 1 character with no other limits....

Hey. I'm a new player and i don't quite understand what "3/3/3/3/3" means. Can someone explain it? If i buy the game for my iPad and pay the monthly lite sub what do I miss compared to the normal subscription (I know that I can't create guilds)?

Thank you!

It's like so for licences: combat, light weapons, heavy weapons, trade and mining.

Okey thanks for the quick reply :). But still I don't fully understand. In the end do I need to start paying the 10€/month if I want to advance ingame?

If you want to get beyond license level 3 or have access to stuff like player-built capital ships, yeah. But you should already be getting access to most of the game already.
Apr 18, 2013 Pizzasgood link
Ships and gear have minimum license requirements to buy and equip. So if you are limited to 3/3/3/3/3, that means you don't have access to many of the higher-end ships and items.

Do note that grey factions tend to sell items at lower requirements, particularly at Corvus stations. Something that needs level 4 to buy in nation space might be available at level 3 or even 2 in greyspace.

Keeping that in mind, you can get some fairly decent gear even when restricted to 3/3/3/3/3. And since player skill is more important than gear quality, you can still hold your own against full subscribers once you learn how to fight properly.

You could get a Centurion IBG and Ineubis ravens, which I still use and many veterans use.

Ravens require far higher licenses than allowed by a Lite sub.

Of course, everything can be sold by players and equipped at Corvus. The only real restriction is ships; with the SVG (reduce the licenses already!), IBG, and WTD, there are plenty of options.

make lite subscriptions part of the account upgrade option of pc players.

I know you want to enter into the mobile space. But a fee & one of say $9.99 a month is not huge buy any means but keeps your "universe" clean & only containing serious players. Being free to play will bring in many more people but a large majority of those will be people that are just bored trouble makers. Shooting in NFZ, just messing around & bringing down general game play for all. Most are not going to pay $9.99 just to screw around & break the rules, free to play will invite a ton of trouble makers. Just my 2 cents. New player found you on Ouya, added game to my phone to get my $9.99 a moth out of you :), sence I subscribed as soon as my 8 hrs ended. Good luck can't wait to get my levels up & really get into the "meat" of the game. Love this type of game, great find! Way to back OUYA game play is great buy the way.

And since this has already been bumped, I think we should let those on PCs get a lite subscription without using a mobile or tablet or whatever.

And welcome to the game, Maz.

How do I get a Lite subscription? The lowest amount I am being offered is $9.99. I am on Ouya btw. Not yet sure I want to spend enough time playing to be worth a full subscription.

You'll need to buy the lite sub on one of the mobile platforms. If you've got an Android phone or an iPad, try that.

""Lite" subscribers could always upgrade to "Standard" subscriptions, and then revert back to being "Lite" (any level gains would be recorded but their old "Lite" levels would be re-instantiated). You would not be able to improve levels or expand your character beyond "Lite" levels while in "Lite" mode (ie, no shadow-recording of advancement that only appears when you upgrade)."

Just to add to this..

What about allowing the lite subscriptions or FTP to still earn exp that can be applied to a full account. If they go to a full subscription it will reflect it. If they go back to a lite account it works like you say and that account is reverted (while continuing to be able to earn exp they can't use unless they use the full sub).
Maybe have a some sort of notice saying "Congrats, and on a full sub you'd now be able to increase the following skills, ribbons", except do it tastefully unlike my example :D, if they go full sub they can take advantage of the hard earned exp, if they revert to a sub it reverts like you say but still allows them to accumulate points, maybe some sort of exp banking system?

Anyways I think that most mobile users could use tasteful reminders if you ever went free to play on mobile, it's something they're use to and can be done by pointing out the advantages of the full subscription model also maybe pointing out the advantages on playing on more advanced platforms if they have them available.

And just a thought, maybe making apps that are tied into the vendetta online universe at 99 cents for those that already subscribe might be another way of generating money, what about and app that allows full subscribers see when something happens to their buddies or guild members (if they are so willing) to be able to be notified of in game events... a couple of very simple examples would be an app of when a station was taken or lost by your guild, when a buddy or guild member got killed by who and where, a major event, Some stuff like that.
Just throwing It out there.

I REALLY REALLY hate to do this... but, I agree with Whistler (excuse me while I get violently ill)...

However, he is right... playing this on ANY android platform is frustrating for the best players, let alone an average one.

" Basically no mobile game asks people to play $10 for anything, it's a huge barrier. But lots of them ask for someone to pay $1, and many of those games are successful."

Here's an idea, get rid of the restrictions on lite subs, up the price and assume that Android lite subs will get fed up with dodgy controls and losing 9 out of 10 fights and eventually switch to full subs.
Jun 28, 2013 abortretryfail link
The controls aren't always "dodgy" and the game devs have done a pretty good job of supporting whatever weirdo bluetooth phone controllers come out pretty quickly.

To be honest, I find that using the station/PDA UI is easier on the (10") touchscreen than it is with a mouse. It sucks on a phone, but phone screens are TINY.

I have a feeling the devs offer the $1 subs only on mobile platforms for payment processing reasons. With the fees involved you sometimes end up losing money with small credit card transactions.

i have 2 suggestions to create a cash store that will not effect the games overall economic balance, the first step which i have practiced is a store that allows players to use customized skins or graphics to "pimp" themselves out, be it particle effects or slightly altered ship designs at a graphical standpoint and this idea can ofcourse be expanded on to all your games assets that are interactable.

2. this one is hard, but a friend of mine uses a very similar platform on a game server he runs f2p.

the cash store provides "infrastructure" as a unique item allowing players to set up temporary or permanent "outposts" which can have limited features like a station and providing a central base of operations.. the platforms i have seen appear to operate in the following way, the user can purchase and deploy many different building types, these buildings improve your guilds pilots ships stats in ways specific to each type of building.. a building must be fed resources to operate and enemy fleets should require weapons that do over a set amount of damage to be able to damage and destroy a groups tech buildings, when these buildings are destroyed any researched improvements should remain, but players must repurchase the building for its original cost + an extra 25,000creds per tier of research, destroying the buildings should provide salvage as well as any equipped building defencables and contained storage including materials and equipment.

i can go into greater details message me.
