It is about the prometheus, warthog and centaur.
Talking about it theoretically is a waste of time, the reason this weapon received community support is because people want to see variety on those ship load-outs that rely on the gatling turret's AA.
I still struggle to see how this weapon is a more viable choice than a megaposi, given that the only real difference between the two is the spray effect which in some cases hampers accuracy.

This isn't for those heavy ships that cant turn and have to rely on AutoAim. This is for the lighter ones that CAN as long as you dont weigh them down with 2 tonnes of turret. It's about making a Gatling Cannon that isn't utterly useless like the base model is.
You can win a fight with a base model Positron blaster. You'd be hard pressed to do the same with a base model Gatling Cannon.
So far the HV is better, at least it can hit a target further than 100m away, but I haven't fought enough with it to know for sure.

In my experience with this so far, it's useless. The AGT is simply better. Give it 300m/s velocity and it will at least be unique, rather than roughly the same as every other gun in the game.
Is this going to turn into a whining thread for n00bs?
So far I've been berated because of this weapon, not that it necessarily bothers me. The reason it doesn't bother me is because if you all had to play with the weapons i'd create you'd all whine and ragequit. This weapon, while others supported, was mostly for me. My intentions were to take a weapon that is interesting all by itself and make it a little more viable to use. That meant increasing the velocity, because most of the time the shots would fall short of the strafing target. I don't want another turret or beefed up weapon, because then it would cease to be interesting. It's the same reason all you idiots that say the screamer rocket launcher is worthless, when it really isn't. So all those flarevalk jocks and gatling turret toting pilots wouldn't be able to appreciate this. So when I'm killing you with these "useless" weapons that you all describe, I find it perplexing that you call them useless, simply because I can kill you with them but you can't do anything with them. So you call them useless and act like a bunch of newbs instead of appreciating a learning curve that is significantly harder than that of a gatling turret.

Actually, if we all had to play with only weapons you would create the game might actually be more interesting. The problem is there are only 3-4 highly competitive combat builds and only 3-4 highly competitive and regularly used weapons.
Small: AAP, Neutron II, Sunflare, Raven, Gauss III
Large: Jackhammer, Megaposi, Gatling Turret
These are basically your best of class and the most common weapons. You rarely if ever see any others used in combat.
We need weapons that compete with these other weapons so that combat is more dynamic and interesting and that players can't simply always pick one weapon to beat them all.
I would suggest removing the scatter effect from the HV and *slightly* increasing A/A. Nowhere near to the extent of the Gatling turret, but a little more than it has at the moment.
Also increase speed to 208.
Then I think we've got a devastating weapon.

Turning it into a reskinned blaster isn't my idea of fun.
^ Hence my suggested velocity increase. Makes it more useful without making it a blaster. Also makes it special, not just a slightly improved gat cannon.
More weapons that can compete with flares and gats, and more ships that compete with proms and valks; decrease the effectiveness of flares and gats, proms and valks. To be honest, this improved gat cannon is nice, but the underlying problem is the "3-4 highly competitive combat builds."

300m/s is technically infeasible from what i've read. it makes the projectile too fast for the netcode and the projectile will be invisible to some people or some such.
Actually now that I think about it, rails move that fast, so it must be doable. Granted I can't see most railfire, but that's at 420m/s
Also, it is a reskinned blaster, but it's a bad one because of how it scatters. In sharp contrast to a gatling turret which really nails the opponent when they get up close and keeps them on their feet at a distance, the cannon does a pretty bad job of both functions.

Rail shots are tiny too. These gat shots are big and bright.
One useful trick might be to build what amounts to a shotgun-railgun; no autoaim whatsoever, poor range and limited ammo supply but absolutely devastating firepower as long as you get close in and on target. Make the thing quite lightweight but make shots spread a fair bit.
What this does is gives the warthog and wraith pilots a decent gun in a dogfight; allows them to capitalise on the ship being light and manoeverable (as long as they're skilled enough to do so) but the lack of auto-aim would make the things useless as a noob weapon.
Oh, and for giggles, set it up as a bot-drop weapon with the ammo requiring crafting to manufacture.
