i have refrained from answering this ot thread until now because i've hard quite a hard time selecting *the* most important song in my life.
it's really a hard call when you remember 70s musics, lived through the 80s and then all those decades that follow. geez i feel old sometimes.
anyhow. i have failed selecting the absolute best. perhaps my #1 spot is actually shared by many songs, actually, wich might come from different eras and styles.
one of the problems is that i have a very wide range of taste for music, with a couple of holes where pop, western and other crap would lie into (hey... music is a personal taste and i'm quite happy we sent down celine dion in vegas--i got rid of her that way). i literally listen to a lot of different styles wich you might not expect being in a single itunes library. some playlists of mine share spots with old france 1930s compositors (brel, brassens, piaf & others) right along with electro-goths like skinny puppy, spk & late gary neuman), through metal, folk, classical, trance/new age and other weirdeties.
though, i can most certainly choose the absolute best *complete album* wich i never bore listening to; and that is
artist: skinny puppy
album: bites & remission
this album, released in 1986 (i was 16), basically sets the standard to what i like in music: ingenious sound engineering, cleaver use of sampling, complete originality and alumni-baseball-bat-in-the-face lyrics.
there few goth, electro, industrial or alternative music formation out there wich does not cite skinny puppy as influence at any time in their work, including nine inch nails, front 242, front line assembly, gary numan, ministry and others.
i'm still searching for the absolute best individual songs but... that might take a while to come up with.

THE song: You and Me and Rainbows http://www.brainwashed.com/common/sounds/mp3/tear_garden-you_and_me_and_rainbows.mp3
I just saw Gary Numan last month and he was AWESOME.

Um.... this is a thread for good songs. You posted that just to be annoying, you smeghead!
I can do that too....
In the middle of the Earth, in the land of Shire,
Lives a brave little hobbit whom we all admire.
With his long, wooden pipe, fuzzy wooly toes,
He lives in a hobbit hole and everybody knows him:
Bilbo, Bilbo Baggins; He's only 3 feet tall.
Bilbo, Bilbo Baggins; The bravest little hobbit of them all!
Now go buy Leonard Nimoy's album; you deserve the pain, after getting that song stuck in my head.

My fav song of all time is High Tech Redneck - George Jones - suits me to a T. I even have it set as my ring tone.

"Hes got 20 subwoofers in the bed of his truck... a thousand watts a power and he keeps it cranked up.. he aint into hiphop, he aint into rap.. he's likes to RUIN them speakers with ronny milsap.. CD, cassette, digital tape.. a cb, RADAR and scannin shortwave.. and if he needs to talk to his honey at home, he just dials up a number on his cellular phone.."

I struggle with this kind of stuff, so I guess I decied to ask my music expert: my iTunes Play Count.
#1: Rob Zombie's "Demonoid Phenomenon" (Sin Lives Remix)
#2: White Zombie's "El Phantasmo and the Chicken Run Blast-O-Rama" (Wine, Women, and Song Mix)
#3: KMFDM's "Light"
#4: The Union Underground's "South Texas Deathride"
aaaaaand
#5: Pink's "Get the Party Started" (Sweet Dreams remix)
Dunno how the hell #5 got THAT high a rating. Odd.

My iTunes playcount is an unreliable source, since I have it set to not play songs that get played too much. That way I'm forced to listen to my favorite songs in moderation, so that I don't get tired of them. Also, if a song plays today, unless I manually double click on it, it won't automatically play or load onto my iPod for three days. I get tired of the (rare) good song that pops up on the radio, since it gets played on average once every two to three hours. I never listen to FM radio anymore (unless someone turns it on at work, and they literally cycle the same songs about every 2 and a half hours). I keep the radio off except from 12 to 3 eastern for Rush Limbaugh, and the rest of the time I've got my "Least Played Favorites" iTunes list play on my laptop or my iPod.
Song in my head at the moment: "Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin.

I hate that song.
Honestly, I don't even know the lyrics. I love the instruments, though, and the texture of the song. "When the Levee Breaks" is another good Zepellin song (and yes, I know, it's a cover). Since my last post, though, the new song in my head is "All Is Full of Love" by Björk.
If I used the 'most played', you'd only get chillout & ambient sound (mostly from Stefan Poiss). Great for falling asleep on the train home, aw yeah...
