No. Events advertised through http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/events cannot exclude someone who complies with the event rules.

We, thanks to ray, will have a sign-up system like in CTF and the anniversary event, and i'm going to ask ray to be in his superbus so no one will steal the cargo.

Bans have officially been lifted on this event! Go ahead at scream at valks being banned, cause i really don't care!

"Bans have officially been lifted on this event!"

Could you clarify what you mean by that? I'm thinking you mean you aren't going to disqualify for complaints anymore, not that you're lifting the ship bans. Or am I misunderstanding?

Player.

Ok.

"Any player who complies with the rules must be permitted to participate"

Which implies that those who cannot may be banned, so blow it out yer after burner.

"Router, I've had enough. You're disqualified from participating in this event do to continued arguing towards my rules and my statements.

I have a very low tolerance for people who are disagreeing with the rules that the hoster has set. If you don't like them, don't participate. Simple as that."

No worries Thesp i 'm not subbed xD so it isn't necessary to disqualify or to re-qualify me.....

Try harder, Ryan. "He can ban who he likes" is certainly false.

I disagree. In events I've hosted, I have banned people for numerous offenses from failure to follow rules to whining too much.

Ok, my mom just told me that she has to go underwear shopping with me, so I MAY not be able to host it. I will definitely be on IRC, but where i'll be I won't necessarily have such good interwebs that I can even play VO. I'll do my best to be there, but I'm not giving any promises.

Anyone who I trust can host it if I'm not there, and just use 1cu of samoflange or something or something rare, or even scrap metal- I'll reimburse you for the prize money, and I'll also give the 1st place winner 20 mil and the special trophy.

raybondo kindly offered to set up the new sign up system, so whoever hosts it will have to go over that with him- you can make up whatever kind of participation tokens you want. I don't care.

In any case, I'm really sorry. I really am. I couldn't control this, but I will do the absolute most I can to be there.

If worse comes to worse, I'll just postpone it to next week. The person who's filling in for me can decide, and here is who I would like to host in my place (if the person above you declines, you get the choice):

Nahin Lor
ARF_01
Waffles
CrazySpence

Thanks for hosting, and it was fun. Good fights all.

Thoughts? suggestions for the future?

I'm going to be hosting a lot of these- every time I get 50-60 mil I'll allocate some of it to events.

My brother told me that having the moth with the cargo wasn't really necessary. What do you guys think?

Raybondo also bailed on me.... he said he'd be there, but didn't show up. :/

Thoughts on the prize? :P

Also, who won what places?

The moth was unnecessary.

I had an idea right before the event, though it would require considerable work on the devs' part. What if whomever carried the cargo received a special combat bonus for the duration that that player carried the cargo? Such a bonus may be autorepair at a slow rate, increased weapon damage, whatever. It's an exotic idea, but may give purpose to having the cargo there at all.

The cargo was funny:

Yeah, if cargo is involved, there should be a point to possessing it. Buffs are one way to do it. Another would be a timer - hold the object for X minutes, and your timer rewinds slowly when you are not in possession (in this case it would be good to have a debuff - we could simply use a heavy object to accomplish that). A third option would be to require that the cargo is transported somewhere, such as through a race track.

Here's one: have a non-participant hiding somewhere in the maze, and the winner is the person who delivers the (heavy) cargo to that drop-point. "Deliver" means to jet it while within 100 m with nobody else around you, and then the drop-point dude picks it up before the dropping player dies.

If multiple people arrive at the drop-point before drop-point dude picks up the cargo, they have to kill eachother, and the survivor needs to pick up the cargo and then jet it before the drop-point guy is allowed to pick it up. If the drop-point guy accidentally picks up the cargo after the dropping player has died, he needs to jet it immediately. If they all die, but other people are still in the maze, the cargo is considered un-delivered - it needs to be picked up by the drop-point dude while the player who dropped it is there with him. Exception would be if the people who just killed eachother were the very last people, in which case the last one to die (determined by the host and/or the drop-point guy) is the victor.

Returning to the maze sector could be allowed, since it's not strictly a last man standing event. In that case, the exception for mutual death would not be needed. (Maybe even have a capship in the sector and have dead players respawn inside it with the same loadout - or maybe a free bus - to save time. That would of course require dev assistance though.)

As for initially obtaining the cargo, it could be an XC that is hidden in the maze, or in an XC that is wandering through the maze in reverse - it should not exit the maze and is not necessarily heading toward the entrance, just wandering around inside, starting from the exit (players would be starting at the entrance). Maybe even allow the XC player to win if he delivers the cargo first (this would give people motivation to track it down rather than loaf around killing eachother first).

The drop-point guy should probably be in a ship with a lot of armor so he doesn't die too easily if he gets caught in the crossfire (though attacking him would be against the rules, in the tubes it can be hard to not hit people, especially if flares are involved). Even better would be if he had an invulnerable ship (but unarmed).

As for participants shooting eachother, it would either be restricted to no firing on eachother until the XC has been killed, like in the event we did today, or else just have a no-fire countdown so that people can have 20 seconds or so to fly into the maze and spread out a little before they start maiming eachother. Otherwise most of them would kill eachother near the entrance.

The event described in this post would probably need a bit of fine tuning, but I think it might be fun. Unless I'm overestimating the size of the maze, but I don't think I am.

I came up with the top 2 lines, and Niki and I collaberated to come up with the third. :P

Rin, I wasn't able to read the entire thing, but the cargo delivery thing seems like an interesting idea. Problem is, it could be a matter of 30, 40 seconds, or 15 minutes. That time frame is too large, because some vet could jump in and grab the cargo, find the person, and bewm. That's it.

Returning to the maze sector could be allowed, since it's not strictly a last man standing event. In that case, the exception for mutual death would not be needed.

I disagree. That would allow someone to mine the place with up to 24 mines- Not happening.

About the size of the maze, I'd say about as big as the CTF sectors? Maybe a bit smaller- those were/are gargantuan.

I would be willing to test it out- would you guys be up for it?
Jan 03, 2011 Pizzasgood link
The basic idea is to get a bunch of people crawling through the maze searching for the guy with the loot and the drop point, killing anybody they cross, and fighting for possession of the cargo so they can be the one to deliver it at the drop point.

A vet wouldn't be able to just rush in and grab the loot, because he wouldn't know where it is (I'm assuming the tube walls occlude radar, but now I think about it, I might be wrong about that...).

The can-return option would be fair because the long delay while you respawn and return to the sector and reenter the maze would likely lose the competition for you.

Might be worth banning mines - I imaging that in the tubes a string of mines provides for a pretty effective area of denial. On the other hand there are a lot of alternate passageways.
Jan 03, 2011 tarenty link
The maze is too small for this, it would be incredibly tight for a simple 1v1 duel. Opposite sides of the tunnel are very close. I would know... Also, it does not occlude radar.

Good idea, but we'd need a new maze.
