I havn't had an MMO game for a long time, and Vendetta is my first in 6 months or so. But I used to play a game called "Second Life" which was a (at its most basic form) virtual sandbox allowing people to build objects, put a script into them (using the in-game language "Linden Scripting Language") and sell them for money. The chat interface was good- at first. The one problem I saw with the game was when it became too popular for the developers to have fun with it- the fun ended. The game became comercialized and hence, ended the fun I had with the SL. Vendetta seems fun because it has:
A. A tight knit community
B. Developers who listen to their customers
C. The most potential in an online game I've seen in a LONG time.

Most reason of all: Independent developers need to keep constant features coming to interest their customers keeping subscription rates up= more fun for Justin

I actually migrated from Descent 3(although I still play it) which is a FPS with the same basic flight model as VO(physics mode) except it is mostly indoors and moving around is a lot faster, there is also air resistance, so you do stop automatically.

I migrated from the original Prince of Persia, which is still the second best game I've ever played.

I migrated from this little game called Vendetta Test. Man... that game was so great, whatever happened to it?... It was so cool, it had this great space physics engine, and the devs were very open to the community. Man...

I guess we shouldn't be surprised that Icarus was a pirate in Tetris also o.O
That's the funniest thing I've read in days.
Somebody make a character called L-shape and get revenge.

I guess I migrated from Unreal Tournament.

I once played a game (and sometimes still do) called Allegiance made by microsoft, its more a strategic variant of a space sim game where u build bases and take sectors by force.

Then I found out about this game, and was very interested how they turn a space flight simulator into a mmo, they did it very well I subcrided almost immeadetly :).

anyone remember Terminus? i loved that game when it came out; unfortunately nobody else did. as far as i can tell VO is "Terminus done right", but sometimes i feel that VO is a little too simplified (for example, Terminus had a sensor model based on radiant energy, and so if you wanted to escape detection you could power off pretty much every system of your ship and coast along - but unfortunately you couldn't maintain this state forever because if you turned off life support you'd eventually pass out).

anyway. that's a ramble for another time.

i came from eve-online, which was quickly turning into sims in space...that and the fact that beneath all the eye candy was an ugly pig of a combat system (point and click), lag and a general feeling of boredom.

the only problem with vendetta is the same that afflicted eve...it needs something for the high level players to do (at the moment there's CtC and thats about it).

I played the original decent and the second decent, but gave up on them when I upgraded my machine, then I played EQ since it was finally release for the mac platform. Other then that not so much. But is not to say that I can't pick up a pilot combat game quickly, I've played tons of Flight Sims for PS/PS2/XBox/Nin/SuperNin/etc...

Funny though, did not come to VO for the PvP I came for the space based RPG, which is non-existant at the moment, it's proliferated with PvP'ers

I played on Turning Point MUD for years before getting completely burnt out on it (I'd gotten bored of it before, but always came back). I also come from Escape Velocity, which I loved to the point that I once got a mac emulator for my PC to run it, then messed my pants when I saw EV Nova was out for Windows, and loved the crap out of it.

As for other games that I've loved to death:
Heroes of Might and Magic 2&3
Red Alert 1&2
Shogun: Total War
Old skool Quake and Diablo

In Chronological Order:
-Descent
-Descent 2
-Freespace (demo)
-Descent 3
-Freespace 2
(The above are the games in which I learned the piloting techniques for Vendetta; most of my combat skills come from FS2, making me more suited to strikes on capital ships. In fact, my keyboard layout is similar to the standard Descent 1/2/3 layout.)
-Vendetta Test (The Public Alpha of Vendetta Online)

Now I play... well, Vendetta Online. Freespace 2 for strike run practice. :D

Earth and Beyond was my first home, which I played til the very end, and I was already anticipating coming to Vendetta when that happened.

I played the heck out of the original Escape Velocity, even going so far as to write a few plug-ins of my own. EV: Override and EV: Nova were also fun. Starcraft was also a blast, I had a lot of fun with the map editor on that one too.
