New New York and it's sort is feasible.
Consider the nomenclature of real places. There is a lot of 'new [blank]' going on. Some explorer with a sense of humor is bound to want his planet to be called something like that. In fact, there could be a system called New New York, with a planet called New New York, with a state called New New York, with a city called New New York, etc.
I've always found "New York, New York" amusing. Why not take it to a deeper level?
So, New New York, as a name for both a sector and a planet in that sector.
Or maybe New New Amsterdam first?

Why they changed it, I can't say,
Guess they just liked it better that way.

I don't know if you've already finished naming everything...
You do have plenty of material by now, but here are my two cents anywhoo.
I happen to live in Japan, and speak Japanese fluently. So here are some Japanese words/names if you want an Asian feel for some of the systems/planets/stars/galaxies. They weren't all colonized by westerners were they?
Of course there are the cities in Japan that you could look up in any atlas or on any map. Like "New Tokyo" or "ShinTokyo" or whatever. You don't need anybodies help with those, so here are some names you wouldn't be able to just look up somewhere.
Aozora: Blue Skies
Yasuragimura: Restful/Peaceful Villiage
Shinjitsu: Truth
Heian: Peace
Kowagari: Fear
Kuraisora: Dark Sky
Hoshinoikari: The Anger of the Stars
Matchinozomi: Waiting, Searching (Hoping?)
Utagoe: Singing Voices
Kaminomichibiki: Divine Guidance
Sukui: Salvation/Deliverance
Kurayami: Darkness
Shi: Death
Kurushimi: Suffering
Katana: ...Duh
Wakizashi: The smaller sword carried with the Katana
Hinoya: Burning Arrow
Purikura: :) Too hard to explain... Probably copyrighted?
Chikamichi: Short Cut
Hayamichi: Fast Road
Deguchi: Exit/The End (In a non morbid sense of the term.)
Owarigakita: The End Has Come
Shimizu: Death Water (VERY common Japanese name. Does not usually translate into 'death water'.)
Aotambo: Green Fields (Or the Japanese equivalent.)
If you want a name or something translated into Japanese, just ask me and I'de be happy to help, if I can.

Neo New York
Rigel 4 (maybe a waste planet, used to train planetary chemical responce teams)
Momsen* (this HAS to be a water planet...I'll explain below)
Window (ice planet?)
*- Momsen is the last name of Swede Momsen who is a little known hero to every country who owns a submarine.
Momsen developed the bell and the Momsen Lung that allows trapped submariners to be rescued.
His work also allowed for development of deeper diving gear.
He worked for the Navy but commenced development even AFTER the US Navy rejected his proposals as "lunacy" and he personally worked rescuing the crew of the S-192 in 1939.
And, most memorably, he never asked another man to do what he himself never had.
Oh, and all 33 crewers that survived the original accident on the S-192 "Squalus" were rescued from an unprecidented depth of 243 ft.

Since you offered, could you translate "I fly, therefore I am" into Japanese for me?
Might turn out to be a cool sounding name for a space ship.
Thanks so much.

Moxie:
That doesn't translate very well...
Tobutameni ikiru - I live to fly...
or just
Tobutameni - For the sake of flying
but I fly to live looks like this...
Toberukara Ikiteiru - I am alive because I am able to fly...
There really isn't a way to say 'I am', just I 'am alive'.

cdgweb, what about: "Toberu Dakara Iru" -> I (can) fly, therefore I am?

Paedric...shame on you!"
Took you long enough. :-D
You're just upset you didn't think of it first. :-P
Any word can become mysterious if you simply reverse it.

Thanks so much. I actually have a need to know for a project I'm working on.
Tobutameni sounds like a perfect name for a ship.

sounds like noodles
I think a planet should be called Xerxes.
AlienB: Sounds like noodles
mmm... your making me hungry.
mmm... your making me hungry.
I'm posting this one for Tempest: Tactarus (a planet)
Gladshiem (a station)
Perth Initiation Grounds (low-level botting area)
Inlon Ice Field (exactly what it says)
Jalvnorik
Negh'Drakhol
Fraskelheit
Meisterhau (Master Strike, a Serco intel installation)
Zornhau (Strike of Wrath, a Serco border installation)
Krumphau (Crooked Strike, a Serco station)
Zwerchhau (Cross Strike, a Serco station)
Schielhau (Squinting Strike, a Serco monitoring installation)
Schietelhau (Parting Strike, a Serco Home Guard installation)
Uberhau (Over-Strike, a Serco installation)
Oh, by the way, the name Aeron in the sector Metana(?) is the name of a major character in the game X-Wing: Alliance. Just a heads up.

I just wonder, how often are the Devs reading this thread?
I'm guessing that they already have most of the names planned out, so I'd say... never!
