The 400 cu Goliath could actually be useful if docking bays and cargo were decoupled from each other once again. Allow three-four fighters to dock and have the 400cu be seperate. 800cu and six fighters for the Trident. The problems of physics-breaking overstuffing and eating up cargo space through ship space is solved once again.
I agree this whole ships and cargo as one needs to change.
It really must be a good idea if you see me agree with these dudes. +1 to making cargo and Docking seperated. Six docking places for small fighters (sub 200 cu) seems appropriate for the TTM. Make it 4 places for everything above 300 cu.
On the Goliath, have like 4 small / 2 large docking ports.

The Goliath is fine, its stations that are lacking capship docking bays.
Give every station in space a capship bay and all of a sudden the goliaths problems with cargo stuffing and wasting time messing about with shuttle ships are no longer problems.
It then becomes a useful heavy freighter as intended.

That still doesn't fix the overstuffing and poor efficiency of using a cargo space as docking bays, not to mention docking bays are a large part of capship manufacturing.
So is the reactor but we still need batteries! lol

Yes, but one battle at a time... :D

I think 1/2 the power capacity and increase the recharge rate. Increase the engines power drainage to eliminate infinite turbo if you must but by God allow for this ship to be defendable, with its flimsy sheild it should have 3 large ports at a minimum. I agree the 4 small ports +3 large was overkill, how about we try a nice compromise of 3 large and 1 small. Or 2 small +2 large.
It seems with the cargo cap at 400 it isn't worth owning if it is practically undefendable, yes its double the XC capacity, but to what end? I would like to see 600cu as others suggested and a more defendable version with a faster charge rate battery to make up for its lack of shielding power, this would make it a fun ship for all, when trouble appears running is an option, or staying and fighting it out too, giving different player types reason to strive to own this ship, be it build or buy, it needs to be worth the effort of acquiring.
Either that or make the trident what it is supposed to be, increase turn speed, better turret positioning and. More forward weapons, and increase the Goliaths cargo cap for its intended purpose.

Why does this thing have the same crappy top speed as the Trident despite being 2/3 the size?
Because smaller ships aren't necessarily faster?
It has the same power unit....
My pennyworth:
Not sure cargo capacity of 400 is worth it - at least two xc's worth or cant see the point of buying this or making this in the future.

Honestly, we need the Goliath to have more variants with FIXED ports. That way we have a endgame equivalent of the major vo 'professions' i.e A mining variant with ~five new mining beams that need cap ship level grid/cannot be unequipped. ^stops people abusing ports
If we keep the current Goliath as a base variant, and a straight buy with the others needing manufacturing with the relevant raw materials i.e a anti-capship variant needing a ton of queen/levi drops, and a trade/mining variant needing a lot of ores

Regarding the Goliath nerf, I want to make an observation.
Take a close look at this picture:
You see those rust-colored boxes tucked into the Goliath's nose? Those are clearly standardized shipping containers. This configuration actually makes a lot of sense for a freighter, since it would allow a great deal of cargo to be loaded and offloaded very quickly. Each of those containers is about the size of a Behemoth (maybe a little larger), and we can see eleven of them rendered on the ship model. The nose section could easily accommodate another set or two behind the first. We should be looking at a ship that has a cargo capacity of 2200cu at a minimum, and yet the ship can only carry 400cu? 800cu, pre-nerf?
The Goliath's stats just don't make sense for a ship of it's scale, and honestly the problem isn't solely confined to it: all of VO's capships suffer from this to some degree. They're artificially handicapped to be kept in-line with the game's existing stable of small craft, but the fundamental problem is that they aren't small craft: they're Capital Ships. They're big, expensive, and (in the case of the Trident Type M) time-consuming to build. They're textbook endgame content, and yet their ingame stats do not remotely reflect the enormity of their required investment.
Maybe it's time we stated seriously thinking about what sort of role capships are supposed to be filling in the 'verse, beyond just being glorified mobile repair bays.

I personally love the Goliath and would love to keep it in game!
It takes some getting used to but I do love it!!!!
I need it!!
Thanks guys!!!

Ive been looking at those boxes, and wondered, if they werent boxes, what could they be?
Large radiating cooler fins, arranged in a box-shape for each system being cooled.
Ehhhhhhhhhh? Ehhhhhhh? How does that sound? Cause, for a company-nation like the tpg to create a hauler that leaves its cargo open to blaster fire, something seems off there. - course, why put radiator fins in such a place, too? I dunno...

That is exactly what I was saying in-game vIsitor. No one seemed to notice.
Looking at the size differences between behemoth, goliath, and trident - I'd say 800cu for goliath is right where it should be, and an increase to trident capacity is needed.
And then there's this:
freight·er
[ˈfrādər]
NOUN
a ship or aircraft designed to carry goods in bulk.
Freighter is what the ship was called in the newsletters. Having a ship that's easily WAY more than four times larger than a behemoth, of a freighter designation, that can't even carry as much as four behemoth xc's - its really not being a freighter then is it?

I want a mining Golliath with 3 large ports and weak shields would encourage pirates to investigate roid fields
Why exactly would any sensible miner take a ship that they know would bring trouble?
They wouldn't.
They wouldn't.
