Alrighty... it's been a while, but this thread has brought me out of my lurking and back into the discussion (been seriously thinkin' about getting back into VO, btw ;o) ).
Anyway, I tended to view the 'Moth as that "big lumberin' trader" that kinda screamed "I'm a target." I thought it's sole focus was to be a huge (at the time) trader, with the ability to carry a lot more than the other trading ships at the time.
The more profitable trading missions at the time seemed to focus on the ability to haul a lot of cargo, too. The smaller, "deliver the special item" missions didn't give enough profit to be useful.
Couple that with the Moth's speed & armor, and the Moth became *the* ship to trade with. There wasn't much inclination to trade in an Atlas X (which outran just about anything at the time, but had a small cargo), or a Maud (it could defend itself, and had more cargo space, but nowhere near as much as the Moth).
When it came to the fighters, everybody seems to have their preference. What a fighter flew depended on his style and his skills. You didn't see that much with the traders.
So I propose something else. Like the last few posts, I'm for keeping the Moth in its current state (I haven't flown it, just goin' by the second-hand reports). This puts it back into the role as the big clumsy trader that's effective at hauling, and not much else.
What I would like to see is a few more profitable missions orientated at those "Han Solo" traders (& me)... the guys who like to run the blockades, flee from the pirates, and fly smart. The guys who'd prefer flying the Atlas X or a Maud.
Disclaimer: I've been out of VO for a while, and my memory's like swiss cheese anyhow. Be nice ;o)
P.S. & O.T.: I'd love to see those "Han Solo" mission linked into some kind of reputation system (more rep. -> offered riskier missions). But that's for the future.

the moth shouldnt have any much armor at all. its simply a flying cargo bucket. it is not meant to fly through rough areas. now you do weapons runs with a moth, thats awesome. :)
