OK. I have what seems to be severe texture trashing I didn't get in beta6, using the same settings... To make sure, I've copied both my wgaf/ini fine into the b7 folder.

I'm on a dual 2ghz G5 tower with 1gig RAM, 64meg Radeon 9600 Pro.

What I get feels like momentary frame skipping when, at halt, I pitch noce up/down 360 degrees. When some nearby objects (floating crates or asteroid field) get on screen, it feels like I'm lagging or skipping a few degrees of angle in the rotation animation.

once or twice, I've seen some bandings on screen, like satellite or digital cable TV signal with some lost packets. Feels like a copy-back error when running in-window.

I'll try to get more info as I try this but I'm both tired and dizzy by now!

It's out now. If anyone runs into crashes or "cannot create window" or any sort of unable-to-start type problems, please post here as soon as possible. We want to try and get this sucker ready for production, and that means finding and squashing any remaining serious bugs. Even if you reported it before in previous betas, please report it again. Be redundant, be thorough, and we'll all end up with as stable a release as possible. Thanks much everyone :).

I have a few bugs from the previous beta that I never ended up posting (they weren't listed in this update's fixes)... I need to get the exact error on a couple of them before I post though...

--I had undocked from the Orion station in Latos - warping to the Xang Xi station in the same system... and I warped. The "Speeding through space" message lasted for a very short time, then went away. I don't vividly recalled anything out of the ordinary I did - I might have accidentally hit the 'activate' key or something. I could hear my ship's engine after the message went away, but there was no hud. The only thing I could see was the chat window - everything else was completely black. I could enter chat, but the chat itself was not updating. I could actually fire my weapons and move my ship in this state, as well as bring up the navmap/sector list. The navmap showed me still being in the Orion station sector, but the sector list only showed me. I tried to warp again, but this only worked after I turbo'ed for a little while. When I exited this 'dark sector,' I succesfully arrived at the Xang Xi station sector, and the chat had updated itself - along with the text that I had input. There were no signs of lag, although that may have been what triggered it. This is also quite possibly non-beta related.

Douk: thanks, but please keep bug reports specific to this version (beta7). There's a lot of little stuff that'll get tweaked or fixed between versions, which is either forgotten about or just doesn't make it onto the changelog list. So, what we really need is widespread reports from this version, starting as a clean slate. If you find a problem, post about it. If someone has previously posted the problem (especially with a crash or some such), post a "me too" sort of message, so at least we know the issue is more widespread and impacting more than one person. I'm most concerned about crashes and startup problems at this point, and anything that seriously impacts or negates the ability to play the game.

If you do find any sort of weird problems (like what Doukutsu is saying), please try to reproduce the problems. The ability to reproduce a bug reliably will cut down on our debugging time by many orders of magnitude. The quicker we can fix bugs, the faster we can get this client into production. If you can reproduce it, please describe exactly how in detail. Thanks much all.

In the options>input menu where you scale the font it doesn't seem to work. It didn't work in 6 either i just didn't actually have 6 long enough to post anything before 7 came out. It's there it just doesn't respond or do anything.

Here is what I'm running. Gentoo linux on a amd64 custom tower. 64bit libs and all that. Nvidia Geforce 6200 128mb. Onboard sound, "Realtek ALC655 6-channel audio CODEC Compliant with AC'97 2.3 specifications" Right out of the motherboard manual.

After downloading beta7 and unziping, I copied the ini and cfg over from beta6 that I was also using in beta5. I didn't know that there were changes happening in those files as well. After getting informed by Momerath that I shouldn't do that I started over with fresh files and had instant problems. On beta6 I had all the game and vid options maxxed. Ran great, 60fps or so. After I let beta7 start up with it's defaults I had 19fps. I turned everything I could down and still couldn't get over that. The sound also sounded like complete crap. Lots of skipping and stuttering in the music. I pulled both the old ini and the new one up in a text editor and started looking for differences in the settings. Found nothing in the opengl section so I started looking elsewhere. Only thing I really found was that I was using Open Sound System driver in beta6 but ALSA sound driver in beta7. On a whim I started beta7 back up and tried to change the sound driver. Only to have the client crash on me. Only thing that errors.log says when the crash happend is "Can't set video driver!"
Linux user that I am, I open the ini with vim and edit it myself. Restart beta7 and I have my nice high fps again. I crank the setting back up and still no problems.
When I was talking about said problem on 100 Ion wanted to try it himself as he was using the ALSA driver but had 50fps or so. He tried to change the driver ingame only to have his client crash too. After editing the ini like I did he didn't get any change to his fps. I don't know anything about his setup but could get that information if needed.

I have a resolution problem. When I choose 1280*1024 60 hz I see only a small part of the screen that looks like 800*600 and if I want to see everything I have to move the mouse...
If I choose 1280*1024 75 hz the login screen is perfect but the in game screen is a bit cropped on the right...

I use linux.

Setting key map:
There is no "chat to group" listing.
Still no way to cancel a setting in case of error except to bind it to nothing through chat interface.

The refgl.i386.dylib file is present and terminal returns "-rwx--x--x" for that file.

I've started to get some big lockups with the new client. Though it may be noteworthy that this could have been a problem for me with the other beta clients as well but this is the first time I've tried one on my laptop. After several bad lockups where my whole screen freezes up for several seconds, I figured out what it was. It locks up whenever I come close to an ice roid. To test this, I sat back 3000+ meters from a cluster of ice. Everything was fine. The second I pressed the zoom button, it locked up.

I have all the textures set to low, scene detail set to 10 but it still locks up. I thought I would report in case it might be helpful, but I don't actually expect to be accomodated on this because my laptop has a reeeeeally crappy graphics card and I'm sure that's the problem more than anything. It works without fault on the old client, but I think the new textures are too much for it. Maybe it's time to put this laptop out to pasture?

Rygel: your X config apparently doesn't have modelines for 1280x1024@60hz? That's what the behaviour sounds like.

Thanks for all the continued feedback everyone. Also, please keep trying the game without using your old configs (just delete or rename wgaf.cfg and config.ini and re-run).. just to get an idea of how it would work on a "new user's" machine running from scratch. Post how it works or if there are any problems, and then feel free to switch back to your old config files or whatever. Aside from the reported Linux ALSA/OSS issue, it should self-config fairly well on most machines, and I'd like to know if there are problems. Especially on the mac. Thanks.

The above problem occured with the new wgaf.cfg file. It self configed reasonably accurately to my laptop, but continues to lock up even when I drop the settings below what it set them as.

I don't know if this is a bug or not, but several people (including me) have green as the colour that flashes on my screen when I get damaged.

hmm I checked my xorg.conf file and yes indeed I had too much resolutions in there, changed it only to 1280*1024.
Now 1280*1024 60 hz works well but I still have the same problem as with 75 hz : the screen in the station is cropped on the right, I see only 2/3 of the launch button...but when I go into space the screen is good and at the login of the game too, so why only is the screen in the station not working perfectly...

1. While in-station and in windowed mode, I can run the cursor off of the top, right, and bottom of the screen, but not the left side.

2. When hitting F9 thrice (stationary spectator mode thingy), pressing w and s don't just move the camera, they move the ship as well. (Which makes it hard to do pics and stuff)

3. In Universe Inventory, if you close all the folders, leave the station, and then come back, they are all back to the expanded view. The view should stay the same, the way you left it.

4. When aborting a mission, we still have the crappy Windows 3.1-looking dialog box that asks "Are you sure you want to abort this mission?"
(ALTHOUGH double-clicking in text box lists is excellent. THANK YOU.)

5. In station, it seems the "Launch" button has a roll-over info popup, but no other buttons do.

6. When I'm hit with weapons fire that actually DAMAGES me, I flash GREEN.
