Ok, everyone. Have a good laugh... It's too bad I didn't have a movie grabbing utility like Ghost. As it is, I took these three screen shots 4 seconds apart. Keep that in mind when watching the speed of the approach to the roid field, then imagine smacking into and through the same roid over and over at that speed.

It starts off innocently enough... I warp into a sector to do some exploring and there's an Ion storm, so I boost around to lose the bots. The feedback below is from my turbo lock bind.

[Mon Mar 6 00:47:01 2006] 00ffffYou've been caught in an ion storm. To proceed to your destination, you'll need to fly to the storm exit point, marked on your HUD.

A few minutes later I lose flight control while headed at a roid, so I try to log off...

[Mon Mar 6 00:53:59 2006] ffffff10 seconds to logoff
[Mon Mar 6 00:54:00 2006] ffffff9 seconds to logoff

[Mon Mar 6 00:54:06 2006] ffffff3 seconds to logoff
[Mon Mar 6 00:54:07 2006] ffffffLogoff aborted.

That doesn't work, so I try manual flight control, but in my panic I get the commands wrong.

Error: no such command 'brake'
[Mon Mar 6 00:54:16 2006] 28b4f0Error: no such command 'brake'
Error: no such command '+brake'
[Mon Mar 6 00:54:23 2006] 28b4f0Error: no such command '+brake'

Right about when I expect to die, a miracle happens and I don't hit the roid. Instead the flight sequence begins to repeat itself. I regain my composure and try to call for help.

I'm not sure if this has been addressed before, but many of the key commands don't work or only half-work.

I don't ever remember the "Select Next/Previous Cargo" commands / keys working. Many of the radar commands also do not work. I'd have to go back and document what the problem is with each of key commands - but there's just a lot of them that don't function. I'll post back on this thread when I'm done checking it all out.

EDIT:

Yeah, it looks like none of the radar toggles work... the mouselook toggle doesn't exist as an option in the keyboard menu... and "Select Next/Previous Object" don't work along with "Select Next/Previous Cargo."

I really was stuck in a loop and going that fast.

The only doctoring of the above images (dump0003.tga through dump0005.tga referenced in the log above) was renaming them and converting them to web-friendly jpg files.
Mar 07, 2006 mgl_mouser link
In Screwball's defense, I must say it happened to me.

I wasn't going fast. My speed was constant. But ship was un-maneuverable and no key worked for anything such as chat system.

The self-destruct bind I have only produced longer delay every other time invoked and it would get canceled after only 2 to 3 seconds.

Quitting the application (on Mac, Command-Q) and logging back in gave me back control.

As far as I can tell, I'm still certain Screwball is smoking catnip. But as a result of this bug. Not the cause of his hallucinations.

:-D

Another little bug - the License meters in the player info in-station show total experience gained (from level 0) to experience needed to gain next level, not experience gained since your last level to experience needed to gain next level.

Applause, guys. I tried this out on my daughters Mac last week and on my XP laptop, last night. Other than the 'container not at location' error and the green vs. red damage-flashes, i've ran into no probs, whatsoever.

Ah, yes, I've noticed this, but failed ot mention it. The XP meters should show gain from last level up, not accumulative.

Don't know if this is correlated to beta 7 but...
Are the escort mission bug free right now ?

One mission just begann and then all the behemoth went back in the station..... I had to abort the mission.

another time I tried to do an escort mission everything went well untill I died, I went to look for them and found them, they were quite a lot and then after two jumps only one was left ( I lost track of them for only 10 seconds because the whormhole was near the warp point) and there was no notice in the mission tab about them being destroyed. After a while another behemoth just appeared, don't know from where. I lost them again(was going for the wormhole but forgot I was in the last system...), the mission tab told me they were at the last grid so I went there, couldn't find them and that was it, the mission was still going but nothing was happening anymore, had to abort the mission.

as a side note I think escort mission could be a lot improved if the color of the group when you press u could be special and not like the others (when there's too much people out there it's a mess to find the group...), and a command like follow him could be done when you target a ship, so you don't have everytime to watch where they are going and to open the map with n...

nice to see you found out what the problem was raybondo :)

Having lightmaps on causes some strange graphical glitches:

Toggling lightmaps on and off resolves the problem temporarily, but it comes back (usually when warping or firing a weapon).

Rygel-
No, that wouldn't have anything to do with the new client. If you run into a bug (if you think it might be a bug) with an escort, pirate, hivehunt or guard mission, please type "/mission bug <short-description>" without any quotes or apostrophes into any input (chat/mission/console).
Mar 08, 2006 Screwball link
More beta7 feedback:

Bug: Tab to complete adds a space at the end of the player's name, which causes errors when the name is quoted.

Suggestion: I think it it would be more convenient if ALL the ship-related functions were under the Ship tab (e.g. equipment purchasing).
Mar 08, 2006 Ion link
Possible beta7-related feedback:

Hive Hunt Missions: No Hive Hunts missions seems to display properly when in a group. The mission will commence, but no info will be given in the mission chat, so it's hard to know when the mission begins, and when it has ended.

UI: F5-scaling the hud when in a group will reset the group window to the usual player window (credits, mass and the small ship image with health percentage).

Recently, I have been getting a lot of wierd things happen to me when I warp. They happen completely randomly, so its pretty much impossible to recreate the exact situation. Sometimes I'll warp, the warp screen will come up, my ship will go invincible, and I'll just be stuck there - with my ship still in the first sector. Thats basically what keeps on happening, but with variations. I sent in a crashlog already when it crashed to the desktop - it does that sometimes too.

Also, some people still aren't showing up as white on the radar in the group setting.

I was also getting these wierd LUA errors when fighting another player whilst in a group. The error kept coming up either when I shot him, or he shot my group member.

EDIT:
Ok, a new wierd one I never had before. Maybe my vendetta folder is corrupted or something - but thats not so likely.
I can bring up the options window just fine (esc key), but when I hold down the esc key, the key repeat flashes the window a bunch of times, and then everything disappears - Hud, loading screens, everything - even the cursor. This never used to happen, even on beta7.
