Test Client Beta3 feedback.

Haven't gotten to check the new one, but I didn't see it among the changes.

On the old client we could see what weps were on a ship without having to change tabs, now you have to select the ship, switch to it, and check ship equipment.

I want to see which ships/layouts I have.

Incarnate: Ah. I wasn't aware that that Cg problem extended all the way to the new ships entirely. I figured it just meant more subdued, not entirely non-functional. I suppose I didn't read closely enough. Perhaps you should go try Cg again and see if it's fixed, 'cause booting into Windows is not my favourite task.

ray: I liked the old ones, but as long as it's not a bug, whatever...

/duel still does not work - forced me to change to the old client to fight a new guildmate.

Suggestions:

Station Interface Usability:

1) In the Weapons and Equipment tabs, it would be nice to have the right-side info frame divided in a (large) upper section and a (small) lower section, giving space for (in the small, lower section) a model or wireframe of the ship you currently have selected. For even more convenience, it would be neat if selecting this ship frame would give you (in the above info frame) information on that ship/layout.

2)In the Ship Selection tab, it would be much easier if the ships were sorted by type within location, and more importantly, that there is a way (from this screen) to see what is equipped to each (list equipment at the bottom or side of the model frame like it is in the old client - add perhaps text info on specific weapon type as well as the icons)

Cosmetics:

1)In the equip and weapon groups tabs, I'd much rather see a green (or damage-showing choropleth color spectrum, Green-Red) wireframe than a full, textured model of the ship.

I realize the interface is not complete but I have a couple of suggestions :

1.Move the chat tabs to the bottom of the chat window so the border aligns with the rest of the windows.

2.On the station screen, move the top and side rows of tabs closer to each other. I would suggest either moving the side tabs to the left or shifting the top tabs to the right. As it stands, I think it requires slightly too much mouse movement.

3.The interface looks too Windows like but I remember reading that it wasn't the final design.

Other than that, client looks good.

oh, and do something about that serif text! it's really hard to read, especially being so small... can we please change the chat to sans-serif?
Jan 29, 2006 mgl_mouser link
-- The text insertion point seems a few pixels off to the right. It feels like you're typing one space away from text.

-- Once got stuck in game when clicking to purchase ship preset 1. Clicking cancel returned to the station with preset 1 bought.

-- I have a joystick bind on sector player list ('u'). The joystick bind activates the sector list, but doesn't toggle it out.

-- Some lua error when a joystick bind to select previous front target when said target was destroyed.

-- Lots of cases where Escape button isn't matched to screen cancel buttons (user list for example).

-- Still no /fps command

Lots of improvements otherwise. graphics look nice with illumination actually not hurting FPS anymore.

wgaf file and binds compatible with 1.2.x so configuring this was nice. Actually considering it for "production" use.

Found a new LUA bug :

Steps :

1.Ship Purchase Screen
2.Atlas
3.Select Preset
4.LUA Error Pops-Up
5.Now LUA errors everywhere even trying to leave station and it thinks I have the atlas active when the cargo selection screen shows my other ship.

Also mousewheel isn't working, I set it to increase/decrease acceleration and it binded fine in the config screen but isn't recognized in game and doens't do anything.

BUG:
When you're in the text interface for the Trade Guild mission, and there's a lot of missions available under a given category, option 1 scrolls off the screen. The problem with this is that the scrollbar and its buttons scroll up too fast to see what scrolled away. Even if I click very carefully, it goes more than one screen at a time, so I can't see what all of the options are.

Here's another. Crashed when I accepted a trade mission.

This is the first version I've tried where the display updates smoothly. Now this actually became playable! Old version and the first beta both had a problem where while fps claimed to be high, response to commands had enough lag to make play very difficult. Good job.

Just a smallish bug - on all versions, release through to the latest beta, whenever I press the 'Delete' key, instead of deleting the character as would be expected, it replaces the next character with a '?'.

Linux IA32. I haven't tried this on Windows.

Bus error: Another Hive Hunt sector is crashing my client. The stack trace is the same as last time. Here's a link to that error log again:

http://www.dualitymedia.com/~jonm/vendetta_test/errors.8G32.02.log

Both times, the missions specified that there were 50+ bots. The most recent occurred in sector P-13 at around 6:45p.m. PST.

UI bug: If multiple weapon slots are assigned to the primary weapon group and one of them is empty, the leadoff target stays fixed on the target. If the empty slot is removed from the primary target group, the leadoff works as it should.

Two bugs so far. I'll add pictures later.

First one was a Lua error box that appeared after I configured my gamepad buttons.

Second, and most annoying, is that the game seems locked to 800x480 instead of 800x600. I tried quitting and changing the numbers in the .wgaf file, but when I ran the client again it set them back to 800x480 again. As it stands, the HUD looks flattened; not a biggie, but rather annoying, as it looks more as if I were playing at 640x480.

I have a wierd issue that may or may not be a Vendetta problem.
ONLY when I run Vendetta's new client, my iMac goes to sleep after a while automagically.

At first I thought it was some kind of setting for the Energy saver thingy, or some odd conflict with the mouse/joystick drivers where the game thought the joystick was triggering the "sleep corners" or something like that.

Until tonight, when I had the same problem and I had an epiphany, and checked my processor temp. It was 84 degrees C. (YIKES)
I shut down the VO beta and the temp dropped like a rock and is now at 66 C.

Now, the only reason that I am posting this here is because:
a) this has never happened before, ever, with this iMac and
b) this ONLY happens when I am running the new VO client betas, specifically #2 and #3, although I did not run #1 as much and it may or may not happen there as well.

Before you ask the stupid questions: no the iMac is not encased in plastc wrap, there is plenty of air motion around the machine, there is no heater vent anywhere near it, none of the vents are blocked, and it's running in a "colder-than-the-rest-of-the-house" finished basement with plenty of adequate ventilation.

So, again, just posting as a curiosity issue, really. I don't think I have any other program on my iMac that taxes the machine like VO does, not even Unreal, so I really think this is a processor heat issue for me.

EDIT: o crap:

The velocity read out doesn't display the max speed nor the max turbo speed

ie
while in a moth the read out maxs at 64 then when you turbo it maxs at 179

Incarnate: Why does it matter with the Cg anyhow? I thought VO was single-threaded? It only uses one of my CPUs at a time...

The linux version should do shaders if your video card support ARB_fragment_program.

ctishman: can you repost your crash report that was here:
http://www.genin.org/logs/vendettaclient.crash.log

jexkerome: vo3 is made to not choose anything under 800x600 now. vo2 could choose lower resolutions. The resolution vo3 uses is defined in the config.ini file, not wgaf.cfg.

damicatz: due to the way vo3 uses the mouse wheel, you can't use the mousewheel to accelerate/decelerate. VO3 sees mousewheel movement as a quick button press/release. Accelerate/decelerate requires the button to be held down for a period of time greater than the mousewheel sends its events.

Odd. I'm able to see it all right. Anyhow, I've posted it to a mirror here:
