Using the same computer for 5 years without upgrading? No problem. I had an old 450 MHz (or was it 400?) iMac, the one that gets cooling only by normal convection, for far more than 5 years... the only upgrade it saw was last year, when it got a new HD.
I'll take that, Ananzi. I've been using my current PowerMac G4 since 1999. 400MHz, 512MB RAM. It still runs Vendetta.
I'll take that challenge too. I use two original iMac G3's (500 and 600MHz respectively) to run VO. The 600MHz I snaked of an office floor for free.
But if I had the money, I'd definately upgrade to an IntelMac in about a year, so problems and unforseen things get worked out. Hopefully this will take Apple to new places and get higher than 10% of the PC market share.

I have a 700Mhz G4 iMac :) Which runs CoD, CoD:UO and AAO fine with a weany bit of laggyness :)
I have an Apple IIe, and I'm disappointed in the devs. Vendetta doesn't run on it :P Those 5" disks just don't have enough space...
I use a summer 2000 indigo imac 400Mhz G3 768 megabytes of ram, for bit torrent stuff, and surfing the web. Not to mention I put a 7200RPM 120 gig 8 megabyte cache western digital hard drive in it.
Not so much showing off it still be used, just the fact that it has a massive hard drive and used for bit torrenting(LEGAL STUFF).
Also, I wanted to get to post here before it got locked.

lol ^^
I have a 7500/100 with 256MB of ram and an AppleVision 17" trinitron that's sitting next to me (I got it for free from someone who was throwing it out). It works pretty well, but ancient IE on OS 9 is pretty painful. I keep meaning to put Yellow Dog Linux on it sometime. And maybe get a 604e processor for it. Make it a dedicated web-accessible mp3 player box or something.
Not that this has anything to do with the topic. But at least I know that some people are ordering intel macs, and can hopefully test the new client stuff for us.

you guys are all cheating. i meant 5 years as your primary computer.
'still runs' is a long way from 'works so well that i havent gotten a new one'.

I ran for more than 5 years on my 440BX system. But I had it jury-rigged as a 1.4ghz Celeron in a slot convertor eventually (it started as a Celeron 300a clocked to 450). And now it's Andy's workstation at work, so it's still in use, heh.
As many of you people have heard me say before...
My personal computer is an iMac G3, 333mhz, with 384MB RAM and a (newly installed) 100GB HD. No VO on that one, obviously. The one I play VO on (most of the time, anyway) is a PowerMac G4, 400mhz, no idea what its other specs are.
Now you see why I need a new computer. =P

ananzi, my oldest daughter's primary computer is a PowerCenter Pro (Mac clone c1991?). It has been upgraded with a G3 processor.
My youngest daughter's primary computer is a 7500/100 with a G3 processor added.
They use them every single day.
Knock it off and go away.

You know, I'm sort of envious of your daughters, they are working with Apple history...
*wipes mouth to stop drooling*
Did I mention I collect those?

I want an orginal mac thing. Those ones that were operated by the 5 inch floppys. MMMM oregon trail!
I don't think the Original Mac 512K even had 5.25" floppies. Although the Lisa did, and all the Apple IIe's and stuff did.
The original Mac had 128K of RAM and indeed its built-in drive was 3.5". I've never seen a 5.25" connected to a Mac; there are no legacy 5.25" Mac floppies to support after all. That reminds me, maybe I'll hook up my Mac II today. I bought a new HD for it a couple years ago and never put it in. Maybe play some Space Quest. I could play it in dosbox, but.. you know, not the same ;)
hook it up to folding at home!
Hehehe, who? me? Notice my folding rate die, did you? Unfortunately, there's no System 4 folding client:) For that matter, Irix and Solaris clients would be much more helpful for me.
I used to run one of the old beige towers. I think it was a Quadra something or another.
I have an original mac 128 and a mac +. Both still run. I don't think VO runs on them, however...
