Oh, you mean those were actual questions? Not just the rhetorical "ZOMG I R ANGUI!!!!" I took them to be?
Fascinating.

TRS, as players, we also have a responsibility to act appropriately, wisely, intelligently, and nicely to(wards) other players regardless of whether we are Guides or not. If player X is being a jerk and ruining other players' experience, it is players Y and Z (not to mention players A through W) responsibility to:

1) Check to see if a Guide is ingame and active. If there is one, then notify the Guide and request assistance with the issue. If there isn't, proceed to step 2.
2) Ask player X to stop their inappropriate behavior politely using private message. If this fails, try again ONCE in public chat. If THAT fails, proceed to step 3.
3) Use /vote mute <playername> on player X. Do it DISCREETLY. Do not talk about it. Expect that people will do it on their own if they want the person to stop. If enough people do (thirty) then player X will be muted for 24 hours. If this fails, use /ignore <playername>.

You or I may not be guides, but we do have responsibilities as members of the community at large.

I hear you Celkan, and while guidelines for players may not be at all out of order, I intended this thread to be about guides. Namely, that players are able to recognize authority when it is presented to them, and that guides have the ability and freedom to be both guides and players with out confusing the players.

I think you may be missing everyone else's point. Guides don't need tags or IFFs. If you (or anyone else) are/is being a prick or whatnot, the Guides will hopefully (I assume that they DO) message you in the white guide message format. If there are no guides around, the PLAYERS are the guides. The players are the real judge, jury, lawyer, and executioner in this community. If someone pisses off the community at large, that someone can rest assured that they will eventually be dealt with by a Guide for some crime or another.

EDIT: And while you may have intended this thread to be a discussion on how to make guides more easily visible to other players, you have pretty much been flaming the commmunity left and right. I'm only being nice right now because I haven't been ingame to see your behavior there and because of the "Be Nice" statement.

Objective 1: That players recognize authority when it is presented to them.
Objective 2: That guides are able to perform thier guide functions when they see fit to do so, hopefully with a minimum of confusion, and otherwise be able to enjoy the game the same as any other player.

I don't think I should need to know who is and isn't a guide. If I can assume that I'll recognize authority when it is presented to me, then I can treat every one I meet as a player, until a guide decides to inform me otherwise. Thats fine with me, because as far as I'm concerned, they want to be players, I want them to be players, and being a guide is just something they do on the side to be helpfull.

I have fought sherpa in B8 many times. I never once clued in that she was a guide. And why should I. She was playing the game, I was playing the game, and her being a guide had no relevance to our game play.

If I decide to play a pirate, and player X tells me not to shoot them, I'm going to shoot them. If guide X tells me not to shoot them, I'm going to assume that they are concerned with affairs beyond thier own character. The guide should be able to decide and communicate, if they are telling me as a player not to shoot them, or telling me as a guide not to shoot them. Thus, I (the theoritical pirate), need not concern myself if each of my victoms is or isn't a guide, until a guide decides otherwise, and the guide can enjoy (or be annoyed by) the game like any other player.
I would think that this would be desirable by players and guides alike.

Ok, I have a situation where two of the issues discussed here came up specifically regarding myself. I was running ctc cargo and had just made it to pyronis after a lengthy trip. I proceeded to the docking bay, and viola, wingbugged on the station. And of course I was homed halfway across the galaxy.

Now, in this situation, I was given the shaft from a known glitch in the game, and was kindly warped back to the station by a guide (although my cargo had timed out anyway).

So, in this situation it was pertinent that I know the names of the guides, and it was a good thing that said guide warped me. Otherwise I might have gotten grumpy and left.

Yes, I've had this happen to me a couple times, to be sure. (the respawning, not the guide warping)

I guess I didn't word this strongly enough last time I addressed the issue in this thread:

Guides will use the white guide private message before taking an action that will directly interfere with the gameplay of an individual. That would include teleporting, muting, that sort of thing. It would not include the spawning of cap ships and other more global actions. This has been our policy since the addition of new guides.

That does not mean that guides are restricted to using the white text only, as that is a cumbersome way of communicating - particularly with new players. Keep in mind that if a player has already been warned on Monday and Tuesday that they may not verbally abuse others, they won't necessarily be warned on Wednesday before being muted if they do it again. I might reconsider if somebody can produce documentation that they have a chronic short-term memory impairment.

Going back to (I think) the first post, all Serco guides (RelayeR included) when I first attacked gave me a clear warning.

"Guides will use the white guide private message before taking an action that will directly interfere with the gameplay of an individual."

I'm not sure if this completly covers my points or not, but it looks close enough that I should probly take it and run with it, with a thank you and have a nice day to boot. (man can I be hard to shutup when I get started).

edit: I will consider this issue as resolved and I will not object to this thread being locked at this point.
