How did you find a thread from 2003?
Nov 15, 2005 avirulence link
Hehe it was Hyperwave that dug up this thread

yes there IS a MAC version and a pretty good one too for Teamspeak. We use it at the VPR guild together with the PC and Linux versions and works great, I use it. This new release has now voice activation:

TeamSpeex 1.0 Beta 2:

So, what's the overall status of a voice medium for communication?
Nov 21, 2005 Beolach link
This thread recently was talking about someone setting up a TeamSpeak (or other voice-chat) server dedicated to VO: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/1/12158

The guys who were planning on hosting it haven't posted the final details yet, so I don't know what's up with that. I might setup a dedicated server if they don't, but if I do it'll have to wait until I get fiber, which should have been early this year, but has been delayed a LOT. Currently I'm on DSL, which could handle hosting TeamSpeak just fine, except I tend to use all my upstream bandwidth already for other stuff.

So, if I get fiber before someone else sets up a dedicated server, I will. In the meantime, you could consider hosting your own, or using one of the many public servers. You'd just need to tell those people in game that you want to chat with, and get them into the same server & channel.

I have 80 GB of bandwidth, but my webhost got nervous when I used the words "TeamSpeak" and "MMORPG" in the same sentence. So I can't host one guys. Sorry.
Seems like there are a BUNCH of sites willing to sell you TS servers for like $5-$10 a month, though. Perhaps that is an option?
Nov 27, 2005 RattMann link
No. Paying more per month is NOT an option. Voice chat is nowhere near that important.
Nov 27, 2005 LeberMac link
No, no RattMann, ONE person would have to pay $5 to $10 per month for a TS server. (Not all of us...)

For those that dont have hardware mixed in linux, but use alsa http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=DmixPlugin

mine looks a little like this (it prolly wont work for your card) but linux can do software mixing, ala windows.)

pcm.dmix0 {
type dmix
ipc_key 219345 # any unique number here
slave {
pcm "hw:0,0"
period_time 0
buffer_time 0
period_size 2048 # jm: much smoother than 1024/8192!
buffer_size 32768
rate 44100
}

bindings {
0 0 # from 0 => to 0
1 1 # from 1 => to 1
}
}

pcm.dsp0 {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmix0"
}

# this makes native ALSA apps default to using dmix
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmix0"
}

ctl.dsp0 {
type hw
card 0
}

ctl.!default {
type hw
card 0
}

Not sure if thats the "Real" SF, or some theif stealing the name.

However, if it is the real SF, are you planning a return?
It would be nice.

maj_armstrong: To answer your question is truth, Yes this is the real StarFreeze. Someone was talking to me the other day about searching my name on google(again...why do people like doing this?) because there are now multiple people who use the StarFreeze name now :( . Anyhow, while looking at what they were seeing, I noticed a link to the Vendetta message boards that included my name. Of course this was google grabbing my name from the front of this thread, and I was like...is someone posting under my name? Just because I've been gone for quite some time I really did wonder if my account was closed and you know all that stuff. To my finding its the old Vendetta Teamspeak thread LOLZ to that. Of course I noticed that someone brought it back from the dead. Then I saw zamzx's post and I had to respond hehehe. First thought was...I wonder what my password is.

As for planning a return, I doubt it. After all I killed off the wiki once and people are probably still pissed at that, but you know, if I really cared about that, I wouldn't say stuff like, I still have full admin access to the wiki. Anyhow, I see no real need for me to come back, by the quick looks of it, the community is running great? I don't know, this is the first time I've been to the forums in what... 6 months...a year?...a year and 6 months? I really can't remember. Wow, has it been that long? Okay, I decided to check back on some old posts, and it really has only been like 6 months.

Anyhow, since I doubt that I am needed in some way I probably won't come back. I'm one of those people that likes to help out and be a big part of the community but I doubt this is really needed. Unless Guild needs a Vendetta Helpdesk... HAHAH(yes, I still have those characters). Even though it would be neat to see the changes to the game since I really last played which was like a year ago really. (thats when my pre-order subscription ran out) I do still have my Vendetta Box and other Vendetta collectables I got when meeting the developers.

So in the end, I'm guessing no, I really doubt I will come back. Unless all of a sudden this forum thread gets filled with like hundreds of people saying...OMGZ STARFREEZE COME BACK! :P

Really though, I never thought of the possiblity of "coming back" or "planning a return" until now.

Also, get away from Teamspeak, mac version of Ventrilo is what most call as working great and I love Ventrilo :P

Ohh man, Look at this post, I didn't want to type up something so big.

OMGZ STARFREEZE COME BACK!

Seriously, the more the merrier. As far as I'm concerned you & everyone else is more than welcome to come back, SF.

[edit]
As regards to TeamSpeak vs. Ventrilo, I have heard that Ventrilo does sound better, but as there's no Linux client, I can't speak for it myself. TeamSpeak, on the other hand, has clients for MS Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Which is why it's what I use.

I knew one person would at least reply and say that exact line. :P

As for Ventrilo having a Linux client, I hear this month or next. So it's quite close to release time. I think its down to fixing out a few buggies here and there. I switched over mainly to Ventrilo when I switched guilds in WoW, I just loved the quality a lot better. Then again it's been like a year and I guess TS has gotten better too. But eh, I love Ventrilo and being able to host a lot of people on my connection without bandwidth issues. :)

I don't even know who you are....yes "who...me" yes YOU... Y O U. As in the person that posted today at 02:11PM that posted with one line "OMGZ STARFREEZE COME BACK!". Do you even know who I am? Like I wonder if you or anyone can tell me what ship is still my favorite(if it still exists or not).

You should come back a have look around, lots of old hats pop in every now and then also there is quite collection of characters you've yet to meet.

I would say the Valk, however I remember it being the Vulture?
