@CrippledPigeon: I think "Chronicles of Exile" refers more to ALL the nations being "exiled" from Earth, not the Itani and/or UIT being "exiled" from Sol II. When I first read your post, I was actually a little confused as to why you thought that. I think it makes a good sub-title.

Very original to boot.
Chronicles of exile is like a puff of fresh air in the world of putrid, overdone games such as vendetta online itself.

(This is funny because the word "exile" is a lot like the word "exhale")

you guys went crazy for nothing.

chikira did a nice work.
i like it. it's look more attractive according to me. :D

I think it's really cool that people are coming up with improved design mockups, and I also think the suggested design looks pretty nice.

However, redoing the site design would be a massive pain in the arse, and would take a lot of time away from doing stuff to the actual game. That said, we definitely need to update a lot of the *content* (ie, the ancient FAQ and stuff).

The cool image and suggestions are much appreciated though.

and
better to focus on the game than the website :D

Thanks for the advice guys, the fonts I already knew about and the top does need more stores, online ones even.

Also i'll try to incorperate the ships someone had mention and if I can ill attempt to make the capital ship orbating the planet, I might also swap out the planet and brigthen up the colors.

Thanks guys

I like the concept. I like the font (at least for the headlines), I like the large "looming" moon/planet. It seems almost threatening! I haven't proof read the
entire design, but don't you mean "AVAILABLE" instead of "AVALIABLE" ??

Inc why not just get rid of the FAQ and just have it link to the VO user wiki? That is what I refer all of my newer friends to any way.

Site design is fine; important links are easy enough to find. Updated screenshots are needed badly. "Content" of the site is largely generated by the user base, via the "message board" [forums], now that the back story and manual are in place. Only after the number of players increases can you expect an increase in new content in the forums.

First, more players need to arrive, and game development is what's needed to bring and keep players.

I wish these forums offered the now-standard functions of email notifications, private messaging, and subscribed threads....

Remember I'm coming at this with my "Art-Director" hat on, so I hope I am giving you CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, not just being a genka.

Ooh, I like the "fractured" planet, Chikira. Maybe fracture it into three chunks to symbolize the three nations?

I like the easier-to-read buttons. How about giving the buttons on the right some space between them and having the page cut off the left end of the rounded rectangle? So the buttons "jut" out from the edge of the page? The rollover version would make the tab kind of "pop" out to the right as well as highlight.
Ooh - or even better, make the planet BIGGER (Yes, BIGGER), and fade it to black on the left side, and have the buttons overlap the planet.

Something is missing. Icons, I think. Add a down-pointing arrow for "Download". Add a box picture for the "Retail Purchase" section.

Everything is blue-gray. We need a highlight color somewhere. Right now your eye is drawn to the GameStop and EB Games logos because they stand out. Maybe tuck them in the upper-right and make the "Download Free Trial" button right below them. Then you've gained an inch or so of vertical layout space.

I like being able to scroll through screenshots on the right side. That's a great idea - as long as they are "NEW" screenshots, not the ones from beta or alpha...

Keep up the good work, Chikira!

To be honest, the design proposition is terrible. Both of them. To put it that way, I'm a professional web designer with quite some practice (could be some 5+ years now) and this design could work back in 1998, but please - we have 2005 now, world has changed a bit from the pre-Netscape3 era. Ever heard of cascading style sheets? Usability standards? W4D? Ok, the last one is an extreme, but still..

Today, you have people browsing the web on their PDA, mobile phones, wrist watches, cornea implants and, surprisingly - different architectures than "PC" (what is by the way totally irrelevant, the browser core and particular operating system is what matters, web designer doesn't give a fuck if it's Mac G5, Atari ST, or Nintendo Gameboy). But seriously, I literally lost my breath for a while when I read your "this version is ment for PC viewing" statement.

Ever used that funny "zoom in/out" button/function in your browser? How do you think it would work with your fancy bitmap menu buttons? What about the "download free trial now". Will you design a new bitmap for the site everytime the owner realize that he'd like something different in that place? What about other screen resolutions? Your textured borders are not tileable horizontally and, what the fsck, even vertically! So manual will have, say, 500 pages, just because we need it to squeeze into the middle text area with 50 lines of text per page available. What about modem users? Just let them wait with "loading" bar for 5 minutes to cache all the graphics for the page, because without it, they won't be able to click anything, or won't see half of the texts on the page? Did you ever try to print such page, basically a one huge photograph? What about Google or search engines at all? Data mining robots that try to index your page as it was a -document-? Do you think that searching for a "space mmorpg free trial download", I will get to your page? Maybe if I try to look that up using, say, Google Images. And there is more, but hopefuly, you got the point.

What you really designed is a promo page for an upcoming hollywood thriller, not a particularly good one, but either not that badly executed, as it may sound from what I wrote above. But in any case, this is not a design for a main web portal of the best space MMORPG sim ever. Please don't think I'm trying to offend or attack you, just because I don't have anything better to do. I have. But sometimes, I'm just quite sensitive when I see again and again people trying to pollute the web with such monstrosities and trying to bring it back to the Dark Ages Of Huge Bitmaps And Animated GIFs (tm).

Ah, by the way, sorry for my english, I'm not a native speaker.
May 01, 2005 Chikira link
It is with great amusement I read your last post. I think your English is pretty good considering the inappropriate expletives you use. (I think we learn them in first grade as well as manners).

Here is something I think you fail to realize and I am happy to educate a fellow professional. If you had any concept of real world design you would understand the idea of a "Comp" is. The technical workings, coding and technologies have not even been discussed. For some reason you have decided to get into a battle over a Jpeg... the funny thing is the Jpeg is winning, that must feel terrible.

By the way, with Vendetta being used by Mac and Linux users alike a Vendetta site would be coded to reflect this. My comments on this matter reflect that the "Comp" (that technical word again) had been optimized for the majority of users. Just for your own repository of technical information, the Mac and Linux show images at approximately 25% brighter than a PC, thought you should know.

Either way these are concepts and suggestions. As a fan of this great game I would like to make suggestions based on the vision. As you can see many people like the concept and the developers are welcoming ideas. For you to come and tear it apart when there has not even been a single line of code created shows a total lack of professionalism on your part and lack of vision.

The idea with design and concepts is to push the envelope of design and even technology. I think it is a severe lack of forsight and imagination that you made your comments. Again, I have to deal with people like you and your limited imagination all the time. Luckily this primitive reactionary commentary amuses me.

I don't know if you have paid attention but a lot of big game studios use a heavy graphics layout and with the epic cinematic nature of this games scope the design concept reflects that. AS for PDA or mobile viewing, again who on earth would use a design like this? Again, supposition and a lack of thought on your part.

Anyway, thank you for making my day, I will chuckle on your post for a few days I am sure.

@Otana Space

PDA, Atari ST, Nintendo Gameboy, Mobile Phones are not currently supported by the current website either. (I get so far, but cant access the forums on my phone! oh noes!)

(why would it be, this game isnt for PDA, Atari ST, Nintendo Gameboy, Mobile Phones.)

I actually think although the current website isnt in need of a major update, ect ect, what you said was trollish, and very childish.

I'd say Chikira just got his/her donkey handed to him/her in a most violent manner, and can't accept the fact that constipation is in store for the next few weeks.

Although I'da saved the whole "I'm a pro web designed of five years" as a counter-retort. The way you use it, it just looks dorky. However, if you'd saved it for later it could have come in really useful. Just think! You go "blah blah blah you suck!" some other poor bastard goes "Buh! And who are you to talk!?" And you go "I'm hardcore, thank-you-very-much!" and then your challenger is entirely pwnt. Nice post overall though, if a bit off-topic.

PS:
Leave it to newbs to interprit actual constructive criticism as flames.

Edit: Chikira, ever heard of a guy named Narccisis? I think you guys would get along.

Otana Space,

Before you tear someone else’s hard work apart especially if your not the one paying for it, put something better up or learn to criticize constructively.

I personally like the design, having said be aware that I’m just a smelly "mutorcs" and have 0.000% design experience, knowledge or capability.

Now that I’ve clearly, proven why my opinions are better than everyone else's. The menu button seems a little to happy and umm... well round. They should obviously be rectangular. Because I practice what I preach, please find said button below.

"Although I'da saved the whole "I'm a pro web designed of five years" as a counter-retort."

Yes, that is a way, but sadly, I'm currently not here to pwn anyone (as two previous prosters didn't realize, but I think I can somehow live with that). Truth is that I don't really know why I stated that in my first post, probably just trying to be more informative, with implication that there is a chance I've already seen a few webs in my life an probably sold one or two.. Anyway, it doesn't matter now.

@yodaofborg
"(why would it be, this game isnt for PDA, Atari ST, Nintendo Gameboy, Mobile Phones.)"

That's true, and because it is not a board game too, no one should ever try to write a review of the game in a paper magazine. Seriously, this is about a web page, it has nothing to do with the game engine. People tend to read web pages to get some information. And tell me, why, for example, when I'm in my work, running under, say, Solaris, which is not a platform supported by the game - whoy should not I be able to get that information? At home, I may have the latest AMD-128 with GeForce 9900, running Windows XP SP8, but still, I will not know that such game like Vendetta does exist, because I will not get to that information, when looking for it. Just because, in your model of thinking, I'm not running on the platform supported by the game, so I't not important to target me with the information that this game does exist. Amazing. (Do you want to continue on that subject? I have plenty to say about it, but it would be already quite offtopic in this thread.)

@Chikira
Actually, fellow pro, I was the one who was quite amused with your post. I will skip you insults and boring parts, as I said, i'm not here to troll or pwn anyone. But still, there is one thing I found really funny:

"Mac and Linux show images at approximately 25% brighter than a PC"
Normally, I would just say "Oh my fucking God!", but I won't say that, so PLEASE don't read it, I don't want to sound violently again. I just, uh.. Hell, do you even read yourself? Mac, Linux and PC? What kind of an operating system is "PC"? And on what your Linux is running then? And what the (beep?) has an OPERATING SYSTEM to do with displaying images? On every platform, you have a gazillion of imaging software and gfx libraries, millions of different graphics cards and drivers with their individual gamma/rgb settings, millions of different brands of CRTs and LCDs, but, heck.. Operating system affecting brightness of images by 25%? I'd really like to know HOW any operating system does that, but seriously - don't take it as a question. I just don't want to know. Really. And, have a nice day, it was nice talking to you, fellow professional.
