Did that, slime. No change.
I updated to 10.5.1 . Included a video card firmware update . vo running fine
Which machine, davejohn?
er , 24" 2.8 gig iMac. see my above droolings ....
Ray, anything in my bug report that indicates it may be a hardware problem?
Relayer, it looks like a vertex/index buffer problem. It's crashing in the os's gl drivers.
I'd hazard a guess that it's a problem with 10.5's video drivers for your particular video chipset.

I've done some testing and gotten these results in Odia M-14 (all settings maxed, except for the values noted here):
mpengine=1, vbl=1, rglow=1, Spaces on: <5 frames/second
mpengine=1, vbl=1, rglow=1, Spaces off: 15-40 frames/second
mpengine=1, vbl=1, rglow=0, Spaces on: <10 frames/second
mpengine=1, vbl=1, rglow=0, Spaces off: 30-70 frames/second
mpengine=0, vbl=0, rglow=1, Spaces on: 15-40 frames/second
mpengine=0, vbl=0, rglow=1, Spaces off: 40-80 frames/second
Turning OSX's Spaces feature seems to help performance on my machine. However, I use the feature extensively, and because turning off vsync (vbl) and mpengine gives me comparable framerates to having them on with Spaces off, I'll do that instead.

Would turning off the vertex/index buffers prevent me from using shaders?
After installing Leopard, VO runs much slower. I have to turn my settings down to get a good framerate. I have a new 20" 2.4GHz iMac with 3GB of RAM. VO ran perfectly at full settings before Leopard. I turned mpengine to 0 and it didn't really help. I'll have to do some more experimenting with it. I did install the new iMac graphics update.
methinks we need to save up and buy the devs a copy of Leopard...
heh.
The problem is that some people have no problems and other do. I wonder if the ones with no problems have a different config.ini.
I also wonder what cpu/video card everyone has so i can see if there's a correlation.

in MS's response, turning off vertex/index buffers will not disable shaders.

Thanks Ray.
I'm also getting another bug where after a while of playing (between half an hour and an hour) I get octree errors, the waypoint on the HUD shows a couple million meters on it, and I can't do anything -- move my ship, turn, anything at all -- but bots can still damage and kill me.
Apparently because of Leopard VO has become, in a word, unplayable.

I used to get the octree screen of death , huge wh distances just as you describe MSK, before the upgrade to leopard. It used to happen mainly after a prolonged period of botting.
Since upgrading I have had the occaisional short burst of octree warning , than after a few seconds vo recovers .

In my case, I didn't ever have the issue before Leopard, and VO never recovers from it -- I have to log off and back on, and if I'm in an ion storm or hive sector as has happened frequently with this bug, by that point my ship is already destroyed.
