Miners unite! We want a real mining ship. Not a warmed over fighting ship.
Cargo: 58
Turbo: NONE
Cruise speed: 50m/s
Slots: 2L, 1S
Mass: 14,000kg
Armor: 18,000
Cost: 20,000c
Please post your own designs for a mining ship below.

Seconded
No turbo?! Make it 180 or something... it would take an hour to get to places and back without turbo, and that would start to suck.
Starfisher I wanted to handicap it somehow. Please post your design ideas too.
Missed that no turbo bit. Turbo yes, but limit it to 180 or 190 if you feel a brick really needs handicapping.
No more than 160m/s on the turbo. Remember, infiniturbo never existed below 160m/s in the old universe.
Agreed. A bus with an fc going 150 m/s can still outrun most bots. That's where I'd put it.
No turbo is crap.

what are the stats of the new mining maud?
I would personally like to see mining beams only mountable in dedicated slots on dedicating mining ships. Not in a generic large/small ports on a Centaur or Rag (or what-have-you).
My ideal mining ship
Cargo: 175
Turbo: 120 (drain 50)
Cruise speed: 45m/s
Slots: 4L
Mass: 32,000kg
Armor: 65,000
Cost: 100,000c
This ship would HAVE to be used in a group. Its low speed and huge mass, coupled with the lack of a small port would just about require a second person to scout the asteroids for the ship. Unfortunately i dont think we have any artwork in the game that fits this design. I envision it being in the 40-50 meter length

A true mining ship would excel at mining but not much else. What is essential to mining? Weapon ports and cargo. I think a Ragnarok with more cargo, mass, and less armor would make the ideal mining ship, since it would be useful for mining with its 5 weapon ports, but not combat or trading.
Ragnarok Mineral Extractor
Cargo: 45
Turbo: 150 (drain 50)
Cruise Speed: 55 m/s
Slots: 2L, 3S
Mass: 12,000
Armor: 10,000

Doubled: The mining maurauder is 1 L, 1 S, slightly more cargo, slightly more mass, and similar speed. IE, its light and fast at movement, but slow at mining. The opposite of what many of us had in mind for a 'mining ship'.
Small slot mining beams are the least efficient out there. I imagine a mining ship to have large cargo, several slots for good mining beams, to be slow, but well armored. The ship is meant to mine, not to transport. This ship will mine, and a couple ships will transport.
I think the ideal mining ship would be a modified Wraith. baisicly just double the cargo capacity (to 44) and reduce it's top turbo speed to 180 with a drain of 50. This ship would have a hard time evaiding pirates with a full cargo bay so it wouldn't be any better than a Centaur for trading, but it has enouigh cargo capacity to bring a profitable mining load in, and with it's 2S and 1L it can mount a minieral scanner, a large beem of the pilot's choise, and a single weapon to keep low level bots off it's back.
Alternatively for low level miners it can swap the large beem for a weapon and the small weapon for a small beem.
Also for the record i think the Wraith is an under apriciated ship. It is a decent trader, miner, and fighter, while it isn't the best ship for any of these roles it is probably the most versitile (at least of what i've seen).

No turbo drain. The pie rats are going to be able to gank it easily enough without putting turbo drain on an already handicapped propulsion system. This ship will have to function in bot zones as well. Lets give it a bit of a chance, huh? And this should be a dedicated, never before seen mining vessle. Not some stat adjusted already existing ship.
I just use a Centaur... 48cu, 1s 2L is just fine once you get level two mining. Before that the Hornet is tops with 4 small ports and 18cu.
I'd tend to agree... a Centaur is well suited to mining. With 2L for the beams and the 1S for either scanner or inefficient beam, the 48 cargo lets you make lots of ores or cash in a hurry.

Too many cookie cutter ships. We need some diversity. I've been seeing the same ships since July 02, 2003.
I wana fly a queen with 10 mining beams B)
Im saying we should encourage group mining in dangerous places... bot fields, gray space wormholes.... which means that the mining ship should be able to make a good enough profit so that it can actually pay escorts a decent amount of money, but it should also actually need to have escorts in the first place.
This means it needs to be more efficient at mining, but relatively unable to defend itself, and unable to run.
