Heh, corvette class ships. I dunno about multi-person cargo ships.... why not just escort them?... multi-person would assume turrets and well... defense is nice and all, but you could use them on real fights too.
Then again.. the way things stand out now, someone can litterally blow up a heavy fighter in seconds. How a slower, less mobile corvette class ship with multiple people will fare... well I'd say not good.
That and you would definately need multi or a new system for the battery.

Does anyone remember homeworld cataclysm (or was it hw2, i forget now), there was a ship called an acolyte that could join with another to form a corvette. Same thing could be done in vendetta. Players could fly close to each other and with some kind of /merge command form a 2-up corvette, one player on guns, one on flight. Simple, huh?
Yeah, but who gets to yell out "AND I'LL FORM... THE HEAD!" ?
All i know is i'm not being the pink anything
*bump*
It would be cool to see some mid-size multiplayer ships, too small to have a docking port for fighters, but large enough to mount turrets. The corvette class!

Phaserlight, did you recently start practicing VooDoo? All these dead threads coming back to the light... (!)
Still good idea tho.

Isn't this what the trident supposed to be? A small n-seater ship?
I've not seen it myself but from what I gather, it's quite small. Even smaller than the rumored than the TPG ship under development.

On energy usage:
Personally, I would prefer it if each turret had its own battery, albeit smaller and less powerful than the combined engine/weapons batteries.
It would be impossible to maintain boost reserves in a heated fight, since every single gunner would have to know about the entire energy level of the ship. Also, it would open the gates to an entirely new kind of griefing.

I could be wrong, but I thought I heard that the trident had a docking port...
This brings up another interesting question, should there be a limit to how many fighters a cap ship can hold? It might look kinda funny to see the entire IDF guild pour out of a single trident frigate.
I like the idea of each turret having its own battery, that way each gunner is responsible for his/her own energy management, and the captain doesn't have to worry about gunners depleting the entire ship's energy supply.

Turrets should definitely be seperate from the main engine power supply, or have all turrets equal only a fraction of the total energy used so there is always enough on hand to manuver and boost.
There are two very good images of the trident on the wiki, no need to debate about what it looks like, just go look at it. Yes, it has a docking bay, yes it's very small. I've hear that it has 16 turrets, but that could have been changed since it has not been released. Personally, I've blown one up and remember there being many railgun shot being fired at once at me. In any case. There should only be 1 ship per turret, so that each person that commands a turret can also leave the ship once it's been destroyed.

Phaserlight, oh how close to striking a chord in me you came!
I'm soooo much looking towards precisely this: swarming IDF out of our Cap ship, Trident or PinTPG.
Lieutenant-Council Mogul Velaio
Itani Defense Force, Cromwel squadron

Necro +1!
Let old threads rest in peace, Lecter. Just link to them in a meaningful new thread, you n00b.
Eh, someone linked and said don't touch. Couldn't help meself.
Haha. Well, all right then.
Lol. What's more amusing to me is the fact that the suggestion is 5 years old.
The Atlas was designed in '98, with a rear turret, for this express purpose. There are actually some early screenshots of the old Atlas that show it. So, it's a lot older than five years ;).
And we don't have a turreted Atlas as our first 2+ man ship . . . why?
Who says we won't?
Seriously, I'll look at that sort of thing when we at least get it working. The Behemoth already has all the turret points defined and exported, so it requires the least work. Aside from that, I don't see why we couldn't have a turreted Atlas as well. But, (gameplay working) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (ship debates).
