There will be no major changes until the faction system is in place. So if FF is turned on, it will be then, when it is appropriate.
Killing somebody on your own team should also lower the killer's score.
I don't think Friendly Fire should be enabled for all times. A fourth nation should be created (black, gray, whatever.. only not pink!) with Friendly Fire enabled!
That last nation must be black, ehehe.
Green. The robot nation is green.
I can't believe no one thought of this. Ok i say YES to FF, but, however, make there be some sort of penalty. Like say first offense your nation fines you 10% of all your cash. 2nd offense 40%. 3rd offense They send defense bots after you and expel you from that particular nation. The penaltys could be on in home sectors and/or in sectors nearby that nations "territory" and all other sectors the penaltys off, so you can kill your team mates there if they piss you off, but they will be relatively save in/near their nations territory.
Not the best idea Phoenix_I. What about if you're in the middle of a big battle, and you accidentable hit your allies in the fray. Or maybe if a missile explodes and splash hits your allies.
Same comment I always make on FF. I think FF can be a lot of fun, but the nature of MMORP things is that x% of players will be bored griefers. Anyone who was heavy into UT knows how quickly a game can degenerate when FF is on and some dork is spawn killing his own team.
On that note I say turn it on, but with real life game server enforced penalities like Peonix says. Well, not jsut like that, but that's the idea. I like the thought of nation defense turning against you and whatnot.

Yes, but you must not forget that in Vendetta those griefers probably won't have endless recources and won't be with many; so it shouldn't be too hard to remove the "revolt".
Judging ideas at this point is a bad idea. The devs have said the concept of nations is going to change radically. So don't think about these suggestions from that perspective. Ultimately, FF between member nations will be turned on. I don't doubt it. I predict that intra-national relations will be much the same as inter-national relations are right now as far as players are concerned. So killing a member of your own nation unprovoked will elicit only a higher penalty than doing so for someone in another nations or a lower one for killing someone from an enemy nation. The only question is whether it stays on between guild members since the game will move from nations being teams to nations being more like races are treated in other MMORPGs.
Rather than fining cash heres another idea. You are player A on the itani nation, you kill player B on your team 20 times. Your "karma" drops down, and you can only buy certain items from your nation....but they are still purchasable for a higher price on the black market. Say player C is on the Serco nation, which is at war with the itani nation. Lets say after killing player C 40x , your "karma" will return to the previous status enabling you to buy more advanced weapons. So in essence, you do bad things, High level technology will not be available to you from that nation so you have to get it from the black market at a higher price.
How's about this: If you kill somebody on your own team your score drops double the amount it would have gone up if the person you just killed would have been on an other team.
well as this is supposed to be a mmorpg then why not be able to kill your team matesm i agree with turning it on and i also agree with no ff in home sectors this idea would expand the whole idea of a rpg due to if player A on itani doesnt agree with the reasons for battle betwweeen player v on itani and player c on serco you can make your own alliances acordingly and this would make a significant leap towards merc's and internation guilds in the world of vendetta which will be very cool.
Again, I think FF should be turned on but what worries me is that you are all so eager to have it turned on.
If you are all so eager to be able to kill your teammates I think something is seriously wrong with you people. I mean, if someone is that big of a jerk on your team, perhaps you should just /ignore or switch teams breifly to kill them. But I mean, the idea of FF TOTALLY undermines the entire idea of Nationalism and working together to accomplish a goal.
FF is a good idea with the faction system but as long as everyone is attached to their nation, then the entire idea undermines the very way the game is setup.

But nations aren't supposed to be the focus of the game. The focus of the game is going to be guilds. So, therefore, I think we should allow FF in nations. I mean, rebellion should be ALLOWED! Guild battles should be ALLOWED! It should all be, like, 1337.
amen to that rouge amen to that
I agree with you 100% rogue. I just think that if everyone wants National Militia to come and bail them out of a tight spot on occasion, they shouldn't want to kill their countrymen with FF.
I agree that as SOON as Guild/Factions are introduced, FF should be turned on

i agree with pyroman here. ff should be introduced no sooner than a faction system.
plus, a nation should have ff off defaultly, and factions should be allowed to "exit the treaty" (maybe make it require an unanimous vote or shtuph like that), that way you don't need a rogue nation, because you will have multiple splinter cells that form themselves.

Hmmm, how exactly do you think you can explain to your gauss or tach that you just 'exited the treaty'? Or, in fact much more importantly how do you explain to your energy weapons that you do have a treaty in the first place?
In general, the only way your weapons can know they are not supposed to hit somebody is if all ships have a built in Friend or Foe system (FoF). This could possibly:
1) Prevent auto-aim energy weapons from aiming at a friendly. It could not prevent accidental hits by those weapons, or hits with auto-aim off.
2) Prevent homers from homing at a friendly player, and if sophisticated enough, prevent them from exploding if they accidentaly hit somebody who gets in their way.
3) Prevent proxy weapons and mines from detonating near a friendly player.
In neither 2 or 3 could it prevent splash damage to a friendly player from a nearby explosion of course.
Finally, with almost any FoF system, it would in fact be posible for anyone with the right technology to turn it off entirely (on anything other then nation specials at least), allowing for some pirate/rogue characters...
