This is why each idea gets its own thread, instead of giant threads like this. Rule 5. Threads like this are difficult to navigate.

The discussion here is only about the idea about the knockoffs. I will put the Hive ships in another suggestion, with a few other ships as well. And after some thought I have another RP story that will make the ships possible.
So Serco decides to give Corvus the designs for its Prometheus, in the hope that Corvus will mass produce the ship and power both the Serco war in Deneb and also start another war on the Itani Border at Jallik. This exchange is supposed to be a secret, but it is exposed, and while there is no confirmation from Serco Command, it is known and believed by everyone.
So Corvus in its bid to mass produce makes it from the easily available Lanthanic and Apicene ore, which while reducing the ships armour make it cheap and mass producable.
A couple of months later, the Order of Akan gives the design of the proposed Valkyrie X-2, which sacrifices a weapon port for infiniturbo. This is done to a) make sure that Corvus doesn't go over completely to Serco and b) because Corvus can easily mass produce the ship for them, which they cannot because they are opposed by the Itani leadership.
So Serco Command thinks that Corvus has managed to steal a Valkyrie design. They're happy. The Order of Akan is OK with this, as they now have a reliable source of Valkyries.
Does this story make sense? It does to me. It removes the problem of Serco or Itani attacking Corvus.
