can you give some more detail on the specific levels of how much faction would be reduced, roda? very interesting.
I honestly doubt faction penalties will be the answer.
faction penalties are very effective, what are you talking about
Rats and Griefers won't care, plus I doubt standings will be the solution the dev's implement. However there could be a new station npc that would come out and use shield turrets and conc mines to push the offender away from the roids.
what do rats and griefers have to do with heating up roids? Is there a new roid-griefing guild?
Someone from SKV and another dude roasted a 81% helio roid in Arta C4 to 6500°.
Griefing has sunk to a new low, lol.
Reason why they did it was to prevent [TGFT] from profiting there however the thing they fail to realize that since Helio isn't being sold much its value will skyrocket. Double edged sword I suppose. Anyways. Roid abuse is something that seriously needs to be addressed.
perhaps a mission tree that gifts an escort squadron tasked with protecting a roid of your choosing for X amount of hours?
Great suggestion Stavinair. +1
If the roid overheats, then you ship should over heat, and then explode. We could see a Red screen when it is overheating, like when you are taking fire from someone...

An overheated roid could give of ion gassing as a clue

So GA, what you're basically suggesting is a AoE boundary?
I say we give the roids tiny blasters that shoot Advil at you when you over heat it.
Well it's apparent that AoE or beam overheating is the answer. The AoE boundary should extend as far as the beam with the longest range.
I am opposed to an area of effect.
Damage should be applied to whomever causes the heat, when they cause the heat, and no one else.
There should be a mechanism to prevent noobs from trying to mine an over heated roid.
For example, when a roid reaches a specific temp, the mining beams auto turn off, and the only way to get the beams to reengage is to hold the trigger for a full mining cycle. You should receive a warning message that this roid is over temp, and that you will receive damage.

That's boring. Mining should be dangerous, especially to stupid people.
I just hope this is implemented soon.
If some idiot is boiling your favourite roid find another one there are literally thousands of each type and the (griefers pirates idiots trollers) whatever you want to call them will soon get bored if you don't need that particular roid
or make an alt and blow them up
or make an alt and blow them up
interesting angle, Drevent. What if penalties were associated across accounts to affect alts?
+1 for damage from overcooking 'roids. I really like the concept of this idea, so am bumping it for some love...
'Roids should off-gas when heated, just like they would in real-life e.g. comets. Off-gassing can cause ejecta to impact your ship and do damage. When comets do this, it is called a tail and contains gas and debris which can impact ships and satellites and cause damage. A good example of this is the Draconid meteor shower which happened last week; a result of 3 comets off-gassing and falling apart due to heating. given time, a static object would cool and collapse back into itself. Maybe make overheated 'roids "fuzzy" or have a foggy appearance as a visual indicator. Approaching the "fuzz/fog" would cause damage. Continued close-in mining only makes it worse. Hotter="fuzzier," so you have to use long-range beams to continue to mine without damage.
Lastly, just a thought, taking a different stance on overcooking 'roids -- what if over-heating asteroids caused crystals to form and be ejected and doing damage (high heat and pressure, ya know...) The crystals could be harvested by f2p players? Also, we (full sub) players could sell them to the f2p players for profits! Because, profits are good and f2p players add life to the 'verse.
Also, I've always been a fan of orbiting 'roids to mine distributing heat more evenly and thus slowing the heating process incredibly. Sometimes I orbit mine just for the fun of it... it's good strafing practice, and should be rewarded.
