Hi VO.
Yesterday I checked out the VO wiki and talked to a veteran about Mining, since I got very interested in mining lately and considered made a mining character.
I was told that in over a decade of VO, only like 3 or 4 players EVER made it to Basic Miner IV and that only ONE player ever made it to Advanced Miner I. That means the highest mining badge ever achieved by a VO player is the 5th. Of 13 variations... After 10 years.
For a miner, it may be really frustrating. Mining takes really, really long and I still have no idea how these players even made it that far. Basic Miner III already seems like a huge undertaking, but is definitely worth it. The BHM is nice. I imagine the BHM II is even nicer.
So I'd like to suggest to lower the general requirements for the Main Mining-badge series. Of course I don't want to make achieving the BHM I and the BHM II ships easier, so I'll just tie them to the new badge at that state respectively.
As it stands it takes 1,000,000,000cu mined to achieve the highest mining badge. For reference, the highest achieved mining badge required 2,000,000cu. And that took years. The highest mining badge will NEVER be achieved that way.
For all the requirements for the Mining Badges at the moment, check out this link: http://www.vo-wiki.com/wiki/Badges
I suggest this new setup:
1. Basic Miner I Requirement: 500 cu
2. Baisc Miner II Requirement: 2500 cu
3. Basic Miner III Requirement: 5000 cu
4. Basic Miner IV Requirement: 15.000cu (Unlocks BHM I)
5. Advanced Miner I Requirement: 25.000cu
6. Advanced Miner II Requirement: 50.000cu
7. Advanced Miner III Requirement: 75.000cu
8. Advanced Miner IV Requirement: 100,000cu (Unlocks BHM II)
9. Industrial Miner I Requirement: 200,000cu
10. Industrial Miner II Requirement: 500,000cu
11. Industrial Miner III Requiement: 1,000,000cu
12. Industrial Miner IV Requirement: 2,000,000cu
13. Planet Cracker Requirement: 5,000,000cu
This seems like a way more encouraging and realistic reward system. The BHMs would still be as hard to achieve as before. And even if we use this newly suggested badge table, achieving the highest badge would be REALLY difficult. Even the one guy with the currently 2m mined (after over 10 years!!!) would need more than double what he has right now.

Getting BHM2 take a while but can be done. If you're building a dent without buying ores it takes you a long way towards the goal, then it's simply a matter of sticking at it for a while.
After getting the BHM2 the BHM1 seems pretty staid, 50% more large ports makes a massive difference.
Badges above that are just that - badges.

All the badges you suggested can be gotten in a week, since there is an exploit certain people used and still do. Of course no one bothers to go above Basic Miner III since you get nothing but a badge.
The solution to that is more rewards. Like rewards that no station will equip without a certain badge. (except perhaps conq stations and M7 that already will equip any item regardless of license/faction stuff).
You get advanced miner IV, and you should be able to operate a miner XC a single small port and one large port.
You get Industrial Miner III and your Miner XC II gets a second large port and a second small port.
You get Planet Cracker and you get a Miner XC III PC edition. Which carries 300cu. Has 2 small ports, 3 large ports. A rear turret And you get access to some HE Mk II beams. This would be one of the most rare ships in the game.
And make all the Miner badge ships available to F2P/Lite accouts. Just with nice crystal costs on all of them.

1 billion mined and sol ore? NO one could ever get that. And having literally unachievable unlockables is stupid. Even when it is just a badge.
Einan - What the heck are you saying. His suggested final badge is 5 million. No one can mine and sell 5 million ore in a week. No one in this game has ever even mined more than 2 million ore.

The exploit doesn't require you to sell anything you mined, all you need is a stable connection and a miner bot.
Einan I get the feeling you misread the posting and so on.
The badge for basic mining requires you to mine and sell the ore.
Even if a bot existed that could do the work it would still take you a lot more then a week.
Also any exploit or bot that would allow you to obtain the badge in a week should be reported.
As to the original Request I agree the scale is set way to steep.
I would actually suggest an exponential scale with a growth of about 1.5
that is to say each level is 1.5 times as much as the previous
1- 1000
2 - 1500
3 - 2250
4 - 3375
5 - 5062
The xp required for the bmh2 and so on would be kept the same.
BMH1 would be about level 8 and BMH2 would be about level 13
The problem cited extends to all the areas.
Ecka has not gained a level in years nor Has my original character
The whole system becomes insane by the time you hit level 20 and no further progress is really possible.
just my plug nickel

I haven't misread it, I know what he wants. And it seems completely fair. But the exploit is still there, and nothing like this should be implemented until it's fixed.
Quite honestly the op scale seems way more reasonable. They are only badges and i think even that small sense of accomplishment would encourage more players to stick with the game. There are enough vers that have played since the beginning and have not gitten half the mining badges this should be a no brainer on needing to be changed.

@The Catman: Haha yes! But this thread is very much about these badges. I really do not wanna make it easier to get the Moth Miners as I said. But for some people badges are fun to collect. I'm one of them when it comes to mining. And for a startup miner its just frustrating when you know on day one you'll never be able to hit the final achievment.
@Einan: Wow really? I've never heard of that trick. I see your concerns but let's focus on the idea. If whatever you're scared of could be fixed - you'd agree with my new requirements??
@Sieger: Yeah! While thinking about Basic Miner III I've spent thought on how long you'd have to sit on an asteroid. And that's quite long. Now imagine the calculation for Planet Cracker. It can takes decades!
@We all float: So you suggest Keep the old list - But make more rewards? I agree rewards are a pusher but it doesn't change that most of the current badges cannot be obtained in ones lifetime! But I'm not opposed to changing the requirements AND adding more rewards to the higher sorts of the badge to give an extra motivation.
@PaKettle: Okay that's also a nice approach!
@Hoban-Wash-Washburne: Yes! I've not been playing very long yet but checking out the long time players really gives you an idea of whats possible and whats not. And that general mining badge struck me as THE one thing that really can't be maxed if you even tried...

Yes, of course i would agree. As I said before, your suggested requirements seem fair.
+1, because there's nothing that will ever be able to achieve that goal now. 👌
+1 If any achievement requires a permanent presence on VO for years, maybe decades, then it tad over the top in a video game.
+1 to OP's original suggestion of reworking the badges but making the mining moths still require the same work they do now.
-1 to the thread hijackers.
-1 to the thread hijackers.
Yeah I also prefer the OP over PaKettles odd, yet thoughtful numbers. I do believe 1.5 would be a too small factor anyhow. Wouldn't we end up under a million mined and sold ore for the final badge then? That'd be TOO easy then.
Of course 5 million is still a lot. Making it 3 or 4 may not hurt for the final requirement (since that still remains unachieved), but overall it's just way more fair and sound.

@Einan - Good to see you can agree on the idea atleast! :-)
@Surbius - Thanks for agreeing with the idea!
@aaronund - Exactly! See my calculation down below for HOW long it would take to achieve the final badge!
@LostCause - Yep! I think the way to the Miner Moths is very reasonable and justifies that much work. The rest however does not!
@Sieger - It seemed a fair step from 2m to 5m. Of course making it double (2m ---> 4m) would be fine aswell. But I'll leave it at 5 for now!
@ClarenceC - Thanks for your opinion!
@Moe Lester - Any specific reason why you do not agree with this suggestion? It'd help if you'd tell me. Maybe I can adjust it then! :-)

For fun, I just calculated how long it would take to achieve "Planet Cracker" right now with the demand of 1,000,000,000 mined ore. And I have just calculated how long it would take to mine the ore! That does NOT include the picking up and selling yet!
- Let's assume an average miner drills 4000 ore out of a rock per hour
- Easy calculation: If 4000 drilled in one, the miner drills 400,000,000 (400 million) in 100,000 hours!
- Take that multiplied with 2,5 and you will end up with the miner taking 250,000 hours to mine 1,000,000,000 ore!
- 2,500,000 hours are about 10417 days!
- 10417 days are about 29 years!
To achieve the highest miner badge right now you would have to mine about 29 years STRAIGHT and with NO stop at all. Imagine that. Being online 29 years straight, not doing anything but mining. And that is only the MINING part. You have to pick up and sell all this!
Insane, huh?

Your progression for the Adv Miner series of badges (25K, 50K, 75K, 100K) is linear and doesn't fit with the overall progression.
Having 13 badges actually fits a round-numbered and simple progression of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, etc. where the next badge is approximately 2x the previous. I would instead propose the following:
1. Basic Miner I Requirement: 500 cu
2. Baisc Miner II Requirement: 1,000 cu
3. Basic Miner III Requirement: 2,000 cu
4. Basic Miner IV Requirement: 5,000 cu
5. Advanced Miner I Requirement: 10,000 cu
(BHM I currently unlocks at 15,000 cu)
6. Advanced Miner II Requirement: 20,000 cu
7. Advanced Miner III Requirement: 50,000 cu
8. Advanced Miner IV Requirement: 100,000 cu (Unlocks BHM II)
9. Industrial Miner I Requirement: 200,000 cu
10. Industrial Miner II Requirement: 500,000 cu
11. Industrial Miner III Requirement: 1,000,000 cu
12. Industrial Miner IV Requirement: 2,000,000 cu
13. Planet Cracker Requirement: 5,000,000 cu
This is the same as what you proposed for Adv Miner IV and higher. The only problem here is that there is no longer a 15,000 cu milestone to keep the BHM I badge the same. It would either have to move up to 20,000 cu or down to 10,000 cu. I don't have a preference and will let others give their opinion on which way it should move.
