Yea, so they should change the mechanics, but still leave the hauling capacity.
As it is, it is obviously broken. It needs to be fixed before they release the other variants. Once they get one super solid trident they can tweak it to release new ones.
As it is, they don't even have a stable foundation to build other trident variants. The only one in the game is still boinked.
Don't get me wrong though. I'll be pretty upset if the trident hauling capacity goes beneath 1200cu. I think 1200cu is the absolute minimal cargo a trident should be able to carry. Obviously some people (especially those without tridents, with no plans of EVER building one) will disagree. but if you knew how difficult it was to build this ship, you'd realize that 1200cu is a very fair trade-off.
THEY NEED TO F IX THE CURRENT TRIDENT BEFORE THEY RELEASE ANY OTHER VARIANTS

I will throw my support behind Hoban-Wash-Washburne's suggestion (+1).

+1 to what Hoban said.
Only two problems that I see...
1: With 300cu for each docking bay, I could put 2 fighter ships and then swap them out for XCs, bringing my total cargo count in 1 docking bay up to 400cu.
2: The devs would need to develop a way to separate the total cargo units available into 4 independent storage units. This may not be that simple for them, and may require time that they do not have.
I still support the idea. I'm just trying to think of things that will actually make it unfeasible.

It would have basically say ok here is a ship docked it is 300cu regardless of true cargo size. 4 ships max to a dent no exceptions.
It's not surprising there could be a difference in space occupied by a docked ship that's ready to launch, versus one that's loaded as cargo.
However, that would still leave the possibility of loading loaded XCs as cargo...but if someone wants to put in that much work to move stuff, let 'em have at it I say. All I care about is whether *all* loaded cargo, however nested in various docked/loaded ships' holds it may be, drops correctly when the 'dent gets popped.

-1 this "fix" dosnt include loading/unloading cargo while docked at the trident and hence dosnt fix the originating issue
@Xeha
loading/unloading while docked? That is not mentioned. The issue is overstuffing a trident with 6 XCs which breaks all the math in the game. The only way to fix this is as I pointed out. a docking bay with any shipped docked needs to equal 300cu and then bump the Trident to 1200cu total cargo. Then it will function just like any other ship with cargo in that you can't put more in it than the ships says it can hold.
This has been a bug since the last big change where ships & cargo were combined. It is a bug/exploit and as has been pointed out in other threads constitutes cheating as that is not how it is intended to function.
Yes all the poor traders will have to make a choice of only going cap ship station to cap ship station or carrying an xc and only having 1100 cargo.
