Limit newb access to grey space

In an unrelated topic....

Players below a choosen threshhold (say 2/2/2/2/2) should be limited to nation space by not displaying the wormhole position markers for any grey systems. Also any player logging in below the threshold would be automatically sent back to thier capitol.

Once a player reached the threshold a mission to update their star charts with the markers would become availible at all stations.....

This would keep the newbs from wandering into grey accidentally

Also Corvus would be allowed to sell the updated star charts to any player that can reach them for a price. This would allow the experianced players to bypass some of the grind and prevent them from being forced back to the capitol when logging in.

Thoughts?

+1 to starchart access restrictions as a newb develops his XP, but hiding the WH's is counterproductive. You'd want to make them curious what's on the other side.

Along these lines, also limiting access to global chat until they've uncovered the entire universe might be a good idea.

File it.

-1 Hell to the no, this game is about not having the stupid restrictions that other games have.

Also what dent and rin said is spot on. Let Darwinism reign freeeeee

Hell no...I make 50 credits every time a noob wanders into grey.

Could simply not display the grey systems on the nav chart and allow the newbs to wander thru if they find the wormhole sector....

Im not too keen on magically moving people but newbs do tend to home in grey when they shouldnt.....Which could be disallowed instead.

So no homing in grey and limited chart display?

Still a hell no.

The ONLY thing that would be acceptable would be a warning popup when they home at corvus or in greyspace that tells them if they home here they risk being station camped (except obviously explain it in roleplay terms).

I know that i've had to bail out some newbs on android phone from Azurea griefing them at corvus because they rehomed there even though I expressly told them not to go to greyspace until they were combat capable. Anyway they learned the hard way and now they're much more streetwise when it comes to these things. I wouldn't dare rob them of that learning experience, but you CAN warn them that there are inherent risks with homing in Corvus if someone station camps you.

If anything sensible is to be suggested in this thread, I think we both know that this is it.

There are already plenty of warnings. The back-story, 100 chatter, the tutorials, etc.

If a player is still dumb enough to go to grey before they're ready, they deserve whatever fate befalls them. If these additional warnings eventuate, I for one will start actively hunting those still dumb enough to go there (there will STILL be some).

Yeah there are plenty of warnings that greyspace is dangerous, but there's nowhere written that corvus will ignore kills that occur in its sector and therefore if you home there people can just kill you in the nofire zone with impunity.

That's the only thing that really could be improved, anywhere else players can attack the person and breach the no fire zone themselves, this will rehome them back in their home nation space and solves the problem.

If they get stuck in corvus and a player is persistently killing them there's nothing they can do, so they should be warned specifically of this danger. But aside from that, there need not be any modifications.

Where's all the pvp practice gonna come from? I went to greyspace a lot when I was a newb and I got plenty of combat experience. All the other newbs should be able to do so too.

Also, most other games don't limit access to difficult areas, except in some cases via a keying mechanism (typically for exceptional or raid content). People should be able to go where they aren't supposed to be before their time.

Ahem....
After some revisions...

Players would start out with only thier own nations space map visible. For the rest of the map they would have to

A. go there
B. Buy a map (Corvus has only COMPLETE map for sale)
C. Get a map from a ships data recorder (new drop..)
D. Complete a mission with a map as a reward.

This would increase imersion and Role play by allowing more early exploration and provide newbs a goal
This would also actually lead to increased traffic in grey as players attempt to fill in thier maps
It would also tend to discourage new players from simply wandering into grey as it would help enforce the unknown and dangerous nature of grey space.

It's better, but if your goal is to discourage players from venturing into greyspace early on, this is going to do the opposite

+1 to improved mode, START with only nation's map, can expand NavComp maps.

Crossing ideas, make every border becomes whole foggy, or even Corrosive, as another thread proposes, so it both justifies why nations won't expand and why newbies should remain inside nation... while posing another challenge before reaching grayspace.

I'd like to see something like a warning whenever they plot to somewhere outside of their home nation for the first time but that's about it, newb protectionism is bad so

Actually most newbs are going to be rather timid about venturing off the map at first untill they gain confidence in thier abilities so this would act as a purely psychological barrier.
In the long run it will lead to increased traffic in grey but most players will wait untill they are better prepared for the unknown,,,,

A few newbs will wander into grey anyway unless a real barrier is put up which the group seems to object to. - theres always one moron in every group.....
