Why not free to play, but with only 1/10th to 1/20th of the XP/faction/credits earned for free players
Current subscribers no change, however you could offer subscription for incremental increase of XP/faction/credits earned
$4 bucks for a week gets you increased XP/faction/credits earned perhaps normal earnings for the week
or $5 and $14.99 for the month
$20 gets you 1.25 XP/faction/credits for the month
$40 gets you 1.5+ XP/faction/credits for the month
$60 gets you 2.0+ XP/faction/credits for the month
$200 - $500 to purchase a fully built trident ?
$ cash for Trident weapons / options
Why not offer it for free like all the other games out there that have massive amounts of players and cashflow ?
If it's not about cashflow then stop charging a fee, if it's about cash related to customers then offer it for free and offer additional stuff to purchase for cash, but something that won't take away from the game.
OH what about Deneb ?
What is Deneb without funding ?
Why not offer the ability to purchase with VO credits to fund Deneb ?
You can purchase an NPC fighters and deploy one or more to Deneb to help increase the fight for your side
Have a real reason to make credits to fund the war and make it costly
Why not offer the ability to purchase / deploy NPC cap ships with VO credits
Why not offer the ability to purchase VO credits for real CASH in order to fund all the fun things you want to do including Deneb for constant ongoing cashflow
It's about the money man ? why can't anyone see the attraction to MORPG, however you have to have players / customers or both. One attracts the other.
OK so your worried about the opinion of the few lonely players that are left. I understand the loyalty topic, but it's time to move on and move up, or give up.
Sadly this is not something that should be offensive but motivational in nature. At least I would hope, but I realize there will always be those who want to cling to the status quo of VO
I only check in from time to time because the game is really cool and I have high hopes to see a lot of PLAYERS someday.
This might help to attract players/customers and lots of cash

No.
Yeah, I'm warming to the idea of freetoplay with some amount of money, maybe $10 or so, granting you the ability play in the game world not just the forums for a month.
Or maybe we should give players the option of paying random other people to play with them.

I'm in favor of a free to play variant for VO, but not as described here.
XP / Faction Standing / credits are entirely to easy to achieve as it is. And if development time is going to be spent changing that, then I say the time would be far better spent fixing the game instead.
Sadly, most of the rest of the OP would also undermine the game as well.
I'd like to see free to play with limitations on access / usability of premium items like the fcpc and higher end weapons and ships. Basically, anyone who isn't paying should not have access to infi boost or sunflares. A skilled player can still compete just fine in a standard vulture with n2's and a medium or large power cell. For the sake of player interaction I would not restrict players from accessing the larger ship like the behemoths to encourage trade and mining.
Likewise, I am watching and waiting and periodically subscribing for shits and giggles.

I lol'ed. You have underestimated how many people have subscribed, and you have underestimated the dev team's drive to see this through.
Like you, I think the game is cool and I have high hopes for it. Like you, I haven't been playing much lately (recently promoted and trying to get oriented while orienting my successor). Unlike you, I continue to fund the game and support it where I can. When I have a bit more time I will be IN the game to help flesh out the numbers.
I think VO is trying to avoid allowing players to dominate based on their ability to pay. When you see inc discuss perks, it's almost always something that is not likely to result in combat superiority.

This is where I fundamentally disagree. Ability to pay should not give one paying member an advantage over another, but there should definitely be an advantage over people playing for free. Free to play players should be able to enjoy the game fully or nearly fully with the exception that in order to fully compete, they need access to better equipment. Thus giving them an incentive to subscribe or buy items.
I rather like the Wizard101/Pirate101 arrangement. They offer a subscription that opens all realms to the player as they progress, while allowing a portion of the game as free to play. Free to play players can use tokens bought with real money to gain access to new realms as they progress and everyone can use said tokens to buy enhancements. Now not all of what they do will fit Vendetta, but I think there are areas where this could work.

-1. And it will still be -1 every time you post this same idiotic nonsense.
Stop begging for scraps and go get a job. I'm sure the local twinkie factory going out of business has upset you, but get over it.

Awww. Diddums have a bad day?
I've come to think of the F2P model as an inherent lie, it's an oxymoron. People say 'No pay to win' or 'Players who pay won't get an advantage over players who buy' - well then what motivation do they have to pay? At some level you are restricting access to something in order to capitalize it, whether that be microtransactions or access based on the OP's little schema.
Subscriptions may be a relatively antiquated business model but they are appealing to many people because they create an equal class of people in the online world and make it entirely based on in-game actions where your position is in the world. It's genuinely based on your actions inside the world and none of them on the outside (you know, the ones people come here to escape from).
The real issue then becomes the ones that have the money to really get the games funds moving are the ones that often have less time to actually play the game, but they still want the same results as those that spend all their time in-game.
The problem I have with all this crap is that it's not the actual problem that we face. Rin, far from his usual self, is just being a lazy idiot. Captain86 is not a poor kid that can't afford to pay for shit, he runs a successful business doing warehousing or something and has time to kill during the day which is why he came to VO to spend that time. It's quite obvious all he wants are more players and more development so that he enjoys his break times.
The problem is that for the meantime we have a product that isn't marketed correctly/enough and has a few basic feature shortcomings. Once those things are sorted out nobody is going to complain about the subscription model, it will function as a different market position, but in the meantime people are going to continue to suggest the product be released free to compete and attract new players. That's the way it is.

We have a free-to-play model already. Sit in the training sector. $10/month gets you access to the rest of the game.
@Ttarenty true trail time doesn't count until the leave training sector
-999999 *Pi for free to pay. if you cant afford 10 bucks a month shouldn't have internet then, because you must need every penny for food ect

Hey you know as funny as tarenty's post is, Why couldn't we expand the gameplay available in the training sector to the extent that you can play it for a while. Maybe have a mini hive skirmish in there and a few stations with some trading and PvP? I reckon it's worth doing.
Also arguments like "If you can't afford this then get a job you poor shit" are just stupid, enough of them already. People suggest F2P model because it's a legitimate market penetration strategy and they want to see an increase in the playerbase, not because they are freeloaders.

My vote goes to a very limited F2P model, not limited to training sector, so non-paying can interact with paying players.
And Guilds should required another subscription, allowing it to purchase/RENT a station or capships. Anyone also could do the same by creating an one-man-guild, or grinding in-game for credits/parts, so nothing Guild-exclusive.
Bottomlines:
-Don't talk "Free to Play", but "Free to Limited Play". Make allways clear that non-paying can't gofar, can't have best things. Wanna become a full citizen? Pay your taxes...
-Lots of available "free gameplays" possible, as hive bots, pirates, no jumps/WH, limited resources, limited free slots, etc
-F2P would bring lots of new, different players, that would not enjoy the "nowhere safe" motto of VO
* F2P does not please Incarnate & Guild Software's Business model
So, it will not happen.

Lazy? Perhaps. Z is the sort of guy who would flip a coin five times, get heads thrice, and call it biased. Not much point arguing with people like that.
Anyway, if people truly wanted to throw money at the devs so the devs could get more done, then that is what they would do. However, rather than doing that, I see them demanding stuff in exchange. They'll throw money at the devs if they get a trident, or if they get an XP boost, or if they get exclusive access to some new feature. What that tells me is that those people don't actually want to throw money at the devs to boost development. They just want to buy perks. Fuck that. If people won't play because they can't use money as a cheat code, that is fine by me.

Does it really matter why the developers get money? It is my opinion that Guild Software needs to grow a sustainable revenue stream large enough to support at least twice as many developers as they currently have. Android not only saved Vendetta but bought us an artist.
I stand in favor of anything that might give Guild a needed revenue boost, whether it's taking a chance on a different business model or getting into something like the Kickstart which was being discussed in a different thread.
As it is, this game and Guild Software have been treading water for far too long.

"Does it really matter why the developers get money?"
Yes, it does. If they get the money because they turned the game into a place where people can pay to cheat, that matters at lot.

I can respect that, but given Incarnates commitment to 'balance', one of the few things I am confident about is that any implementation would not devolve to cheats. Simply leveling the field to compete with paying players.
I'm sure that that's how most games started out. I've seen only one game that actually has a chance of doing it right: MechWarrior Online, and even there it's touch-n-go with things USD-only 'mechs. Sure, it's okay now, but how hard will it be to resist the temptation later?
IMO, the best way to keep from falling into the traps so rampant in F2P games is to simply not wander in their direction.

Considering that players have unlimited time in the training sector before their "trial" even begins I dont think additional freebies are going to help.
The 10.00 a month subscription fee is dirt cheap as well for unlimited playing time.
NO.

One thing I feel compelled to promote anytime the topic of subs comes up is that right now 10 USD / mo is the most you will pay for this game. The longest plan actually comes down to 6.67 USD per month, rounded average. Calling that dirt cheap is kind of like calling the arctic "cold". The point is it's a great value.
