Yesssss... of course, it's unclear why the Greyhound didn't look like this from day one, rather than us debating it as a possible Kickstarter reward over two years later.

Hi Inc

I say go for it (Kickstarter). Aim for enough funding that it will make a difference to G.S. and take VO to the next level. I would have guessed in the $400,000 to $1,000,000 range. Don't go in too low. Also - it's entirely possible that you could exceed your funding target (fingers crossed).

Suggestions for pledges:
- special badge (supporter)
- year's subscription
- merchandise (T-shirts, etc)
- special decals / texture map for your ship(s)
- boxed set i.e. with DVD, games booklet (manual, backstory etc), poster, pin.
- naming rights for stations or player-conquerable stations or sectors or systems (in expanded universe).
- samoflange. Lenbs. Lawneuts.
- access to PCC for design and suggestion contributions
- name a ship variant. Hell, name a new ship class.
- large chunky capship components
- penultimate tier: one-on-one combat training with a Guide (yeah i know the guides' a myth).
- top tier: fundraising fun event with GS staff in your location i.e. bowling, whatever.
(I'm sure the regular forum users can shoot down a few of these suggestions, but, meh.)

I'm "retired" from active duty, but if you check you'll see I keep backing you ;-)

Good luck

cheers,
- F.F.

- access to PCC for design and suggestion contributions

Erm, now about "No". It's already pretty easy to get into the PCC, and what few restrictions it has (namely the playtime requirement) make plenty of sense.

- year's subscription

This: At a very low rate, like say $20 ? Yes, might not bring GS a lot of funding over the year, but might get quite a lot of players. And a quick cash injection too. I know I'd pledge just for this.

- special decals / texture map for your ship(s)

This is would put at as high tier item, say $100? Sure, let Lecter have his hog. And this should be do-able (and might even be a good lesson) now GS have a new artist :-) I think the hello kitty moth might be a copyright infringement though :P

[edit]

I'd prolly pay the $100 for the hog too.

Hi yoda! ;-)

Another reward could be a custom billboard written in Galactic Trade Standard located at the station of your choice.

I'll donate any of "my" art to the kickstarter project. Not really "mine" since a good attorney could probably prove that I copied the ship designs from VO's artwork. But hey, I think some of these pieces might look OK blown up to 10 X 14. Photostream below, some of these are just stupid photos, tho.

Anyway, if you do ask for investment from kickstarter, I'd be interested in "investing."

Now,what about numbers... comparing to other games, and a first DRAFT:

$10,000 - Permanent Tradehub Station with donor's name (or Guild)
$5,000 - Insured Connie+, 1y insurance
$2,500 - Insured Trident+, 1y insurance
$1,000 - Non-insured Connie XOR new ConqStation, as exclusive owner for 1y (trade outpost)
$500 - (Non-insured/6M insurance) Trident with exclusive paint job.
$250 - Special decals / texture for one ship, exclusive but shareable
$200 - Corvus affiliation - account can create Corvus ALTs.
$100 - VO posters, printed materials, Special texture/decals (shared)
$50 - VO printed materials
$25 - NEW ship models 1,2,3, exclusive for 6 months, (included in all above)
$15 - NEW ship model 1 xor 2, exclusive for 6 months,

Top-tier prizes must have limited availability, like 3 stations, 5 connies+, 10 tridents, 15 outposts...

@ Duration of prizes:
And the new assets should have phased-in offer, like the supporters get exclusive access for 6 months. Also, some prizes can be Exclusive only for a limited duration, then changed into regular
* Stations: Offer exclusive ownership for 6M, 1y, 2 y ears most.
* Capships: With limited duration on insurance, as 1y. After that, new insurance can be purchased using LOTs of ingame credits, or it decays into a non-insured ship.

Ok, time for someone else compile another Price/Prize list...

-1 to exclusive models for six months. Improvements to the game should apply to everybody within a month, max.
Nov 26, 2012 TerranAmbassador link
If there's going to be something exclusive, it should be transferable decals or the like. Not ships. Not weapons or equipment. Not stations.

Kickstart sounds good depending on whats going to be offered

If you noticed with all the kickstart ads there is always an underpinning psychological perception that there will be players involved even if they have no idea if anyone will partake in it in the begining. So YES it's a risk.

However, it can be a calculated risk.

We do know mostly that selling GOLD which is good for purchasing levels quicker.
We know this works in just about every game going right now.

All the cheezy facebook games to Star Conflict, to Wot,wowp, mechwarrior online.

God it's fustrating to see all these ideas that do not seem to consider following a successful pattern to get things done.

Don't like it OK. Then build some other cheezy dumbed down version of VO for facebook or some other free version and raise some money to fund your VO Universe.

Anything sounds good at this point, but all these suggestions should be measured in lieu of the successful pattern of these current PC games.

I mean good GOD Conquest Resurgence brings in dough and it's boring and the graphics are not good.
But people don't like to wait so they pay for ORE so they can build crap quicker.

Not what you want to hear I know that already but likely will bring in even more per person then the current subscription rates. Not to mention the mass influx in players / customers

OH and the subscription level can earn slightly higher XP for just about all these games.

So many games making money that are NO WHERE near as cool as VO. There is no reason for this constant struggle to find players and funding

These players will give, they would buy tridents, or sub for faster XP
Once they play for while free, start mining and getting the desire to build stuff or get higher levels, they will buy whatever you sell them just to experience the cool stuff a little quicker

Well, that's my monthly check in, I'll check back sometime at the end of Dec.
Good Luck VO

A feature I would like to see implemented that might make a nice reward would be a unique to you/your guild chat channel.
I know the pirates will occaisionally spam the channel we use for anti-pirate communications to harrass us, so it would be nice to have some control over who can see or who can post to a channel.
Not sure if this fits in with the reward for kickstarter as it requires additional development?
Nov 28, 2012 TheRedSpy link
The tech for that already exists growlor, ask your trader buddies!
Nov 28, 2012 Pizzasgood link
No it doesn't. I assume you mean there is a plugin for filtering out who you see chatting in a specific channel. That would do nothing at all to stop me from impersonating TGFT on 444. It would only prevent the real TGFT people from seeing me do it. Newbies, not having secret guild plugins, would still see me.

Anyway, -1 Growlor.

I don't have anything against each guild having a "public" channel that they can moderate (using the guild tag in place of a channel number, i.e. /join VPR). If you proposed that as a separate suggestion, I'd +1 it. But I am opposed to only giving something like that to people who contribute to the kickstarter.

Kickstarter rewards should either be irrelevant (e.g. textures, real-world merch), or be relevant things that any other player could also acquire somehow. They should never be useful things that are only available via kickstarter contributions.
Nov 28, 2012 TheRedSpy link
No I was just referring to the hilariousness that TGFT has built the perfect alert spotting system but VPR has to use public channels because they haven't shared it with them. Probably because it's so obviously a wing of Itan and the two inherently mistrust each other.

In any case, it has no place as a kick-starter reward.

Got another idea sweethearts, i'd pay monies to have a 3-5 seconds nice video of me customized potato flying through the wreckage of my victim. Of course that video will be running on me victim's client in a "ye got PWND by a Plant ye dumbf**k!" style : ]
