Kickstarter for VO

I'd consider trading cash for flying an all-black Greyhound with white skull and crossbones on the rear wing faces. That is all :)

Really when you think about it, all of these rewards could be implemented as an online store here on the vendetta website without even doing a kickstarter campaign. All we're really doing here is making a once off micro-transaction fundraiser. No reason why similar things couldn't be marketed to existing players all the time.

Thought I should point that out.

Yes. Except for the development-time difference of constructing a micro-transactional store front system, with all the administrative handling of people who bought the wrong thing or want a return. Vs a potential one-time developer pass of tweaking a bunch of accounts. That, and the inherent marketing benefits of a Kickstarter that you already mentioned.

But yes, a store would be nice too.

What about assembling all the backstory in comic books?
I have no idea how much would it cost...

Things I would buy into:

1. infinite subscription*
2. unique ship skin
3. ship models (physical reward)
4. trident! (save alot of work for a donation, recommend one of the new unreleased varients [or a unique type-k for kickstarter?] to allow ppl who already have the Type-M to also take advantage)
5. art (book/poster/comics/etc)
6. corvus faction for one character

EDIT: 7. observer pet -> permanent observer pet that follows you around, no mission required... if it dies a new one warps in... this would provide no advantage, but would be fun for other players to shoot (or you to get some target-practice between rounds), and a good companion for those boring mining expiditions ;)

n. ... other stuff I haven't thought of

* this especially, at $159.99 per 24month, even at the ~$300 this would be enticing. This would mean many players who pay $10/month would suddently give you a BIG budget boost short-term to work on things to retain FUTURE users. It would take a few years for these funds to show a loss anyhow. Just make sure you also throwin something "unique" as well, I recommend a trident ;)

Most kickstarts include previous tiers when funding at higher levels and I would love to see that as well. If you include some "game-time" at each tier, the current player-base would likely fund the required goal so little worry of failure. This would be one of the few kickstarters where you could get immidiate gratification (game-time) as well as promised rewards down the line so I think it very likely to succeed.

That all said, I've backed a fair amount of kickstarters, and if VO had one I would be a guaranteed funder.

Don't forget that purchasing capships and STATIONS would be a great reward for Guilds, who can run sub-campaigns...

1. infinite subscription*
2. unique ship skin
3. ship models (physical reward)
4. trident!
5. art (book/poster/comics/etc)
6. corvus faction for one character
7. observer pet

8. NEW capship model (exclusive for X months)
9. NEW small ship model (exclusive for X months)
10. Small outpost station, NEW ones, for 3 or 5 top contributing Guilds or players
11. Shielded Trident (exclusive for X months)
12. Access to Unaligned faction
13. Access to play as hive bot
14. A SHOP! Inside a station, allows player to sell and purchase even while offline, following programmable directives.

15. Physical gadgets that can play VO, as tablets and Cell Phones, with VO preinstalled.
16. Top accessories for gameplay, as joysticks, mice...

-1 Alloh.

Alloh, all of that would take up the dev time the kickstarter is funding, beside the fact that half of it is ridiculous tripe. Think before you post, please.

-1 to ships only available to donators, and -1 to tridents given to donators. Trading money for that much work is not at all fair for those that had to build their trident. It too closely resembles a pay-to-win system in my opinion.

Someone did the math, and added up all the hours they spent on the trident. Based on their own pay in RL, it added up to something like $8000. (iirc)

That was in this thread: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/26313

I agree that a trident would be a bit much. UNLESS it didn't come with the insurance. An uninsured trident that is simply gone once destroyed would be an acceptable prize for a high-end donation. Some of the smaller donations could come with grab-bags of rarer weapons, or a superlight. I'm totally opposed to a microtransaction system selling that stuff, but getting a few expendable goods during a one-time fundraiser is acceptable to me, as long as it's not a huge number of them.

That's smart. +1 Rin.

There is absolutely no chance VO gets any funding from kickstarter. For one thing, in the crowd funding space you have superior competition:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen?ref=category

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/43153532/strike-suit-zero?ref=category

And those are just the currently funding projects.

Second, your game is GOING NOWHERE. The only people who play VO are dedicated vets. I guess if you all want to continue to support a failing and dated game then go for it. I know a retro style text game got funded a few years back...

I thought Android was Guild's savior? No? Oh, surprise surprise, no one pays for android apps...

Right. Carry on! A long as you can continue to fool a large enough community to make a living, carry on! I have the same respect for beggers on Michigan ave with brand new shoes.

Impavid says what so many people are thinking and even saying in private but won't say in public.

Second, your game is GOING NOWHERE.

Coming from someone who hasn't been around since Christmas last year, and who hasn't bothered playing since 2010, this statement is hilarious and absurd. The devs themselves have asked you to stop posting on their boards; don't you have something better you could be doing?
Nov 15, 2012 Kierky link
I wholeheartedly agree with Phaserlight. Impavid, you have not even played in years, yet you're criticising people for supporting a game that you yourself, do not? Do not post on the boards unless you actually have something constructive to say.

We support VO's development, no matter how steadily. And if you do not want to, then fine, go elsewhere, and stop trying to rub VO's name in the dirt.

The devs do an awesome job keeping this game up to date, and making sure their heads are above the water.

I was going to end my previous post with "queue the apology squad" but I thought it would be too obvious...
Nov 16, 2012 TheRedSpy link
Impavid what major change, if any, would bring you back to VO?
Nov 16, 2012 Impavid link
Direction.
Nov 16, 2012 CrazySpence link
That way *points*

Now you have to come back.
Nov 16, 2012 bunghole link
If you're gonna get indignant about anything, why not this fun bit of cognitive dissonance?

Please note that I am not advocating beating Impavid to match his portrait. I'm just saying that years of failed attempts to become a stuntman have left him in a sad state, and may explain the quality of his posts.
I have no excuse for TRS yet. Sorry guys.

VO, in its present state, reminds me of laser tag: any success your efforts bring are limited to 10 seconds of downtime for your opponent. If VO were more like paintball, where going through the effort of successfully eliminating an opponent meaningfully harms that opponent's ability to carry on in the instant iteration of the ongoing conflict, I'd be a lot more likely to devote my limited recreational hours to it.

In response to requests for death to have severe negative consequences beyond the earliest part of a player's development, there's the constant whine about it encouraging "running." In response to requests for victory to have meaningful consequences directly harming one side and directly benefiting another (capturing territory in Deneb, granting/removing access to a particular ship or weapon, looting/destroying the inventory of captured stations), there's a constant whine about overly penalizing people.

Unfortunately, this all leaves VO with the distinctive feeling of being SpaceQuake, not multiplayer EVN or Skyrim in Space. Hence, it's hard to give a flying fuck about VO aside from occasionally logging in to enjoy the flight/combat model for its own sake. Because there's no content worth enjoying in the context of that twitch experience.
